Hour 2: Previewing '24 FSU Football with Mike Norvell, ACC Lookahead, and the latest from Vikings Camp with Alec Lewis Aug 14, 2024
    Show notes

    In Hour 2…

[00:43] – FSU Head Coach Mike Norvell Joins Us

As for who's overrated and underrated, Finebaum’s pick of FSU as a potential top-10 team by season's end is intriguing, especially with the AP jinx on Georgia being No. 1—18 of the last 20 preseason No. 1s have failed to win the national title, after all. Gojo and Golic recap the offseason with coach and discuss expectations for FSU this season.

    [20:48] – ACC Preview

Clemson is at a crossroads. Dabo’s reluctance to embrace the portal and NIL could be a long-term issue, but for now, they’re still a formidable program. Miami’s recent recruiting and portal classes are impressive, and Cam Ward leading the offense could be a game-changer. The offense is stacked, especially with three 800-yard receivers returning. However, the defense, particularly the secondary, is a major concern.

[30:22] – Vikings Beat Writer Alec Lewis joined Us

Gojo and Golic discuss Haason Reddick's trade request from the Jets and how it highlights trust and communication issues between the player and the team. The Jets traded for Reddick without a new contract in place. Reddick's camp believed a deal would be finalized, while the Jets expected him to play under his current contract.

[40:27] – This, That and The Third

The technical issues with Max streaming "Hard Knocks" caused quite a stir. The idea of paying to attend a wedding, beyond the traditional gift, is wild but not entirely out of the realm of possibility in today’s world. Max Muncy vs. Max Muncy is one of those quirky baseball stories that remind us how small the world of sports can be.

Hour 1: Wounded Viking, NFL Year 2 Leapers, and will Aiyuk Stay or Go? Aug 14, 2024
    Show notes

    In Hour 1…

    [01:37] – J.J. McCarthy Tears Meniscus

Gojo and Golic react to Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy's knee injury. Even after a promising performance in one game, it might have been premature to expect McCarthy to land the starting role. The Vikings odds to win the division have improved slightly. This could be due to confidence in Darnold or the team’s overall depth rather than a significant hit from McCarthy's injury.

[12:20] – Packers Current WR Situation

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur seems frustrated with the constant chatter about establishing a number one wide receiver. Fans and media might start to grow restless if Jordan Love struggles without a clear top target, reminiscent of the Aaron Rodgers era's frequent "weapons" discussions. LaFleur’s frustration could also stem from the pressure of knowing that his job might be on the line if Love doesn’t succeed.

[20:53] – Aiyuk Watch: Will He Stay or Go?

As the Aiyuk-to-Steelers trade talk continues, there's growing speculation that he might stay with the 49ers. If Aiyuk ends up staying, it suggests something might have shifted in San Francisco, possibly after a conversation with Shanahan. The potential deal would have significantly impacted the AFC North if he joined Pittsburgh, but staying with the Niners keeps them a top contender. His contract situation also becomes a crucial factor to watch, particularly how much guaranteed money and average annual value (AAV) he might command.

    [24:59] – Ja'Marr Chase Missing Practice

Chase missing practice is concerning, especially if it’s a sign of a longer-term holdout or injury issue. Chase’s absence could slow their start, but it’s still early to predict a significant impact.

[30:09] – Year 2 NFL Players to Watch

With only four games played in his rookie year, the ceiling is still high for Anthony Richardson, particularly with his dual-threat abilities. Bryce Young's struggles as a rookie were evident, but there’s still potential for improvement. His development is critical to the Panthers' success. Boom or bust seems to be the theme with Will Levis, as he enters a critical year with a revamped Titans offense. Injuries slowed Jaxon Smith-Njigba down as a rookie, but he has a chance to emerge as Seattle’s top receiving threat this year.

[42:46] – Best Time Zone for Sports Viewing

The debate about the best time zone for sports viewing is always interesting.

Eastern: A 7 pm start is convenient, but late games can be brutal, especially with big events often ending after 10 pm.

Central: Offers a slight improvement with earlier starts, but late games still push the limits. Mountain: Arguably the best balance with reasonable start and end times.

Western: Morning NFL games are a dream, but early starts for big games can be problematic.

Hour 1: USA Basketball Losing Infinity Stones, The Noah Lyles Saga, and Haason Reddick Jetting Out? Aug 13, 2024
    Show notes

    In Hour 1…

[07:03] – Recapping USA Basketball with Charlotte Wilder

Gojo and Golic get Charlotte Wilder's perspective on Team USA's road to Olympic Gold over France. Steph Curry's stellar performance, scoring 24 points on eight three-pointers, including clutch shots in the fourth quarter. LeBron James contributed significantly with 14 points, six rebounds, and ten assists, earning the Olympic MVP title. Kevin Durant also played a crucial role, becoming the first American male to win four gold medals.

[13:43] – Potential Ramifications of a Kevin Durant Retirement

Kevin Durant hinted at retirement and expressed uncertainty about his future in an interview. This raises questions about the 2028 Olympics and the NBA's future without him. Durant's potential absence from the 2028 Olympics would leave a significant leadership void.

[20:01] – Haason Reddick Request Trade From Jets

Gojo and Golic discuss Haason Reddick's trade request from the Jets and how it highlights trust and communication issues between the player and the team. The Jets traded for Reddick without a new contract in place. Reddick's camp believed a deal would be finalized, while the Jets expected him to play under his current contract.

[32:32] – Noah Lyles: Hero or Villain

Noah Lyles, a six-time world champion, has the potential to be the face of track and field.
