    Episode 37 - God Will Restore Jan 04, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

This episode looks at Zephaniah 3:8-13 and Acts 2:1-4. In the Zephaniah passage, we are made acutely aware of the fact God will judge sin. However, the prophet also gives a glimmer of hope because God also seeks to bring restoration. The prophet points to the restoration that will come through the Holy Ghost. Acts 2 tells us of the initial outpouring of the Holy Ghost and gives all of us the hope of restoration we can receive through the power of God's Spirit living inside us. We learn from this lesson that though God judges rebellion and sin, we can find restoration if we turn to Him.

This episode looks at John 3:16-17 and 1 John 4:7-21. In these passages of Scripture God's amazing love is clearly described. His love is summed up in 1 John 4:10: "Herein in love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins." And because of that great love, we are called to love one another. We learn from this lesson that we should love others because God so loved us.

This episode looks at Luke 2:6-11 and I John 4:1-6. In the Luke passage, we find a portion of the Christmas story when the angels announced the "good news of great joy" to the shepherds on the hillside. This "great joy" is available this 2020 Christmas season. In I John 4 we are introduced to one of the hopes the "great joy" of Luke 2 has for all those who are filled with God's Spirit: "Greater is He that is in you!" We learn from this lesson that Jesus came in the flesh to save us and to give us the power to overcome the world.

This episode looks at Acts 9:1-5 and 1 John 1:5-10. In the Acts passage, we find Saul blinded by a light from Heaven and hearing the voice of Jesus. In 1 John we are admonished to walk in the light. In Acts, the light revealed Saul's sin and set him on a path of rescue and redemption. This episode looks at Nehemiah 5:1-11. In this passage, we read about how many of the people living in Jerusalem were living under the oppression of their own people. The rich were mistreating the poor and many families were unable to pay their bills. As a result, children were being sold into slavery and homes were being ripped apart. Nehemiah became angry and put an end to the injustice and called the people to develop a fear of God. We learn from this lesson that God wants us to help those who are oppressed.

We learn from this lesson that God will help us finish His work no matter the opposition.

This episode looks at Nehemiah 2:1-5, 17-18. In this passage, we read about how God placed a burden on the heart of Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. The king for whom Nehemiah worked saw how sad Nehemiah was after hearing the news of his homeland being destroyed. The king sent Nehemiah back to Judah and told him he would help him by providing all the resources he would need to complete the task. The burden Nehemiah felt paved the way for the work Nehemiah would do. We learn from this lesson that God places burdens on our hearts.

This episode looks at Ezra 1:1-11. In this passage, we read about how God stirred the heart of a heathen king (a king who did not even know the one true God) and tasked him with rebuilding the Temple in Jerusalem. Not only did God stir him, but the people of God were also stirred in their spirits to do what God had commanded. We learn from this lesson that God seeks to stir His people to do the work He has called them to do.
