    God’s Country

“God’s Country” with The Brothers Hunt (brothers Dan and Reid Isbell) is a rollicking weekly podcast that sits at the intersection of country music and the great outdoors. Each episode explores how today’s biggest and most talented country stars and songwriters pull inspiration from rugged, first-hand relationships with the natural world. Nashville songwriters by profession who spent their childhoods getting muddy in the wilds of Tennessee, Dan and Reid draw on their own passion for hunting and fishing to lead a thought-provoking and fun exploration of the fundamental role of outdoor living in country music.

The Brothers Hunt Fall Whitetail and Who Saved The Hunt Nov 03, 2026
    Show notes

Reid's West Tennessee bow hunt for a mature whitetail turned into an emotional deer recovery he won’t forget. A 38-yard shot, a disappearing blood trail, and a tracking dog named Rocky had the boys hanging on until the very end.

This week on God’s Country, Reid and Dan Isbell—the Brothers Hunt—tell the full story of their number-one target buck. After months of trail camera scouting and food plot work, the opportunity came just minutes into their first sit. What followed tested their patience, their confidence, and their faith.

    The guys break down:
    • How an October cold front put their target buck on his feet
    • The shot and the buck’s split-second reaction
    • Why they backed out and waited overnight
    • How Rocky and his handler, Rick, tracked the deer when the blood trail disappeared
    • The lesson behind taking “the next right step” and trusting God with what you can’t control

Plus, Dan and Reid debate Starbucks tipping culture, share a wild deer camp story, and give a shout-out to Medal of Honor recipient Kyle Carpenter.

Have you ever had a deer recovery that put you through the wringer? Tell us your story in the comments.

Scary Movies, October Whitetail Patterns, and Copperhead Myths Oct 13, 2026
    Show notes

Ella Langley’s Tulsa concert cancellation goes to Country Music Court, and Dan and Reid Isbell explain why they’re backing her decision. Plus, the brothers break down October deer hunting, why big bucks disappear from trail cameras, and how to adjust your strategy before the whitetail rut.

On this episode of God’s Country Podcast, it’s a fall BROPOD packed with country music, hunting advice, football, and questionable Southern snake stories. Dan and Reid debate whether the “October lull” is really about deer changing food sources, when to move your trail cameras to scrapes, and why hunting without a plan might teach a buck YOUR pattern.

Away from the deer woods, the brothers put horror movie fans on trial—because apparently liking scary movies disqualifies you from babysitting their kids. They also get into Kentucky football, playoff baseball, and the baby copperhead legends their dads told them growing up.

    In this episode:
    • Ella Langley’s concert cancellation and the Country Music Court verdict
    • October bow hunting, acorns, food plots, and pre-rut buck movement
    • Trail camera placement and scouting community scrapes

    • Scary movies, Halloween, and a very questionable babysitting rule
    • Kentucky football and baseball’s strike zone debate
    • Baby copperhead myths and Southern folklore

A Maggot in My Croc, Country Music Court & Deer Hunting Mistakes Sep 22, 2026
    Show notes

Deer season is almost here, and the Isbell brothers are back with opening-day deer hunting advice, grizzly bear debates, country music hot takes, and a few stories they probably should’ve kept to themselves. 😂

On this episode of God’s Country, Dan and Reid break down the biggest mistakes hunters make on opening day, when to hunt a nocturnal buck, why the first cold front matters, and what to do when your target buck disappears from your trail cameras.

But this wouldn’t be a Brothers Hunt episode without things going completely off the rails. Dan tells the horrifying story of a maggot flying straight into his Croc, Reid explains how a golf ball nearly took his head off, and the brothers debate which hunting buddy they’d trust to save them from a charging grizzly bear. There’s also a dead-mouse pep talk and a wild cottonmouth story.

Then it’s time for Country Music Court: Is Carrie Underwood’s revamped Sunday Night Football intro guilty or not guilty? The brothers weigh in on Ella Langley, hunting, and why country artists should be able to be exactly who they sing about.

    In this episode:

    • Opening-day deer hunting mistakes and early-season strategy

    • Hunting nocturnal bucks, cold fronts, and disappearing target deer

    • A grizzly bear encounter and the ultimate hunting-buddy debate

    • The maggot-in-a-Croc disaster and Reid’s near miss on the golf course
