In this episode, I interview Tanium CMO Steve Daheb.
Like just every great story, we begin by meeting the protagonist. In business, the person responsible for a company's brand is often the Chief Marketing Officer, and our hero is Steve.
We discussed his backstory and the possibilities he saw in Tanium from the outside. He's now using that outsider's lens to create a new twist in the Tanium story arc.
One of the biggest things he has undertaken is to answer the question, what do you do when your company doesn't fit into existing categories? — You create a new one! Steve shares why the time for Converged Endpoint Management (XEM) has come.
As Chief Marketing Officer at Tanium, Steve Daheb leads the global marketing and communications functions and is responsible for driving Tanium’s brand momentum, adoption, demand creation and growth.
A highly respected industry leader, Daheb has served in both private and public companies. Prior to joining Tanium in November of 2021, he served as Chief Marketing Officer at ON24, where he helped lead the company through its IPO in February 2021.
Previously, Daheb served for over five years as the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Oracle Cloud Go-To-Market, where he was responsible for driving the global growth of Oracle Cloud, including Oracle Cloud Platform services and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure services. His responsibilities include full go-to-market strategy and execution to achieve top-line growth of Oracle’s cloud business, which is now a multi-billion-dollar business. He also led Oracle Global Communications, spanning all products, industries and corporate level comms.
Daheb has also held Chief Marketing Officer roles at Citrix, Blue Coat Systems (acquired by Symantec) and Emulex (acquired by Broadcom).
Dehab holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Davis and a Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University, School of Law.

Episode 17 - Payal Mehrotra Apr 19, 2022

In this episode I interview Payal and talk about how she, and Tanium, think about Risk & Compliance and how her love of data and what it can do to help people led her to Tanium.
Payal is a Senior Director of Product Management, responsible for Tanium's Risk and Compliance Portfolio. For more than 18 years, she has been building products that help companies secure their networks. She has worked with Fortune 500 to hyper growth startups in network, and data security fields. Payal provides expert guidance to our customers in data analytics, migration to cloud, security & risk management.
She has a Masters in Computer Science from WPI, and MBA from Babson College. She is from Boston, MA and enjoys traveling with her family.

Episode 16 - Jeff Stokes Apr 05, 2022

When the CEO of your company is asked who in the company we should try to be more like, you go find that person. You want to learn more about them and watch what they do. Well I had the chance to interview that person, Jeff Stokes.
In this episode we discuss how Jeff became Jeff, some of the adventures we had at a previous company, and most importantly, how to partner with other individuals and companies to make the customer successful.
Jeff Stokes is a Distinguished Engineer at Tanium. Author, blogger, gamer and dad, his IT career started at Digital (DEC) in 1994. He has specialized in the field of Windows performance analytics since mid-2008 while a Senior Escalation Engineer and then a Premier Field Engineer (PFE) at Microsoft.
He is an expert in the areas of:

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure
Windows imaging and deployment
Networking
He currently holds eleven active Microsoft certifications. He was the lead author of two books and a contributor to three more. Jeff serves on the advisory board for the Big Data certificate program at San Francisco State University. Jeff is also a #go-euc member.

Episode 15 - Steven Blankenship Mar 22, 2022

My guest this episode is Steven Blankenship from Salisbury University. He takes his role of security to heart and when he had challenges getting the information he needed, and in a timely manner, he knew he had to transform the way things were getting done.
He used Tanium to change the story of how his organization thought about, managed, and ultimately transformed to a modern, flexible, and adaptable team running at the speed of Tanium.
Steven Blankenship has been with Salisbury University since 1999 working in various roles throughout the department coming up through desktop support, networking, and systems administration before going into management. Since 2014, Steven has served as the Director of IT leading a dynamic and highly skilled team responsible for securely meeting the ever-changing technology needs of campus. He has a Master of Education in Post-Secondary Education and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Salisbury University.

Cameron McLaws experience in Enterprise Operations - Healthcare, Higher Education, and Manufacturing. Outside of work he enjoys the outdoors, boating, and learning how to not get tapped out in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Cameron joined Tanium as a Technical Account Manager and now serves as a Director, Technical Solutions Engineering, to help drive the value of Tanium to our customers.
Moshiur Rahman is a Director of Technical Account Management at Tanium. His background includes working with military, intelligence, and federal research agencies. After joining Tanium, he led many Risk and Compliance initiatives and now serves a mentor to new engineers joining the Tanium family. When he isn't working, he's making music, watching movies, or reading philosophy.

Episode 13 - Ed Debish Feb 15, 2022

In this episode of the GO Tanium Tech Stories Podcast I get to interview a relatively new team member Colonel Ed J. Debish (Ret.)
After retirement from the US Marines as Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Cyberspace Operations Group, he brought his expertise to our Customer Success team.
We discuss how Tanium helped keep the communications of the MCCOG safe, secure, and fluid. (You'll have to listen to decipher that acronym. :-))
How one of his reports used Tanium to uncover latent performance issues on some aging endpoints so that they could be remediated before they caused problems.
He also gives his insight on how he found advocates to aid him in transforming the way his team worked through a digital transformation.
Colonel Debish was commissioned a second lieutenant after graduating from the University of Oklahoma in August 1994. After completing the Basic Communications Officers Course in 1996, he served as a communications officer in numerous and diverse assignments.
Assignments in the Fleet Marine Force include: Operational Platoon Commander, Marine Air Control Squadron 1; S-6 Officer, Combat Service Support Battalion 18; Executive Officer and Commanding Officer, 1st FSSG Communications Company; Commanding Officer, Marine Wing Communications Squadron 38; Executive Officer, Marine Air Control Group 38; Asst Chief of Staff G-6, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing; Asst Chief of Staff G-6, III Marine Expeditionary Force; and Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Cyberspace Operations Group.
Assignments in the Supporting Establishment include: Communications Division Head, Marine Aviation Weapons Tactics Squadron 1; Capabilities and Integrations Officer and Deputy Branch Head, HQMC Combat Development and Integration; and Military Faculty Advisor, Marine Corps Command and Staff College.

Combat Operations Include: Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 1 (2003), 2004-1, 2006-2, and 2007-2.

He retired on Oct 01, 2021 after serving 27 years of active service. Since retiring, he joined Tanium as a Director, Customer Engagement – Public Sector.
He is married to Barbara and they have two children; Ryan (20 years old) and Tyler (18 years old). Lastly, he is a joint-qualified officer, whose personal awards include the Legion of Merit with gold star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two gold star, Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star, Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

Episode 12 - Andrew Thornton Feb 01, 2022

There are few stories that mean more to me than those where someone takes something that you made/created and used it to make something useful to others. Today's guest Andrew Thornton works for a Tanium partner Cylitic Security, and they have taken Tanium and done some really interesting things with Tanium for their customers to gain insight into their exposure to Log4j vulnerabilities. Andrew also shares some great insight from is time at the Department of Energy and a large lumber company that add extra value to this episode.
Andrew Thornton is an information security leader who has been in the field for over 20 years. His focus during that time has been on protecting and testing applications and enterprises at scale. He is very familiar with the techniques, tactics and procedures that adversaries use, and understands what is required to protect enterprises from them at both a strategic and tactical level. He enjoys building and leading teams as well as working with the business to understand their needs and challenges in an effort to make security as frictionless as possible.

Episode 11 - Jennifer Pittman-Leeper Jan 18, 2022

In this episode I interview someone so amazing she goes by her initials. (That and her name kind of takes a half a day to type.)
More importantly she has a great story of success with Tanium as a customer and was so impressed she came to work for Tanium because she wanted to help others solve the same problems that have plagued IT for years.
Jennifer Pittman-Leeper, JPL, is a Tanium Customer Engagement Manager for SLED customers. She works as an advisor to help customers realize the potential of Tanium in their environments. Prior to joining Tanium, JPL was the Enterprise Security Program Advisory Council (ESPAC) Administrator for the State of Arizona. ESPAC brought together CIOs and CISOs from across the state to discuss cybersecurity policies and select enterprise solutions.

Episode 10 - Roy Schuster Jan 04, 2022

In this episode I discuss value engineering.
What is that you ask? I had the same question and Roy explain's it beautifully.
Roy Schuster leads the Value Engineering team for Tanium, assisting customers with defining the economic value of our industry-leading endpoint management and security platform. Roy joined Tanium in January 2020. Prior to Tanium, Roy spent 16 years with Cisco Systems. At Cisco, he primarily led large-scale transformation programs for global customers, focusing on IT strategy, technology lifecycle strategy & planning, financial modeling & business case development, process improvement, metrics & measurement, and change management. Earlier in his career, Roy held leadership positions with Akibia Consulting, Lante Corporation, Cambridge Technology Partners and Accenture. He holds an MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, and an AB in Economics from the University of Chicago. Roy lives in Oak Park, Illinois, near Chicago, with his wife, two teenage children and two dogs.

This week I interview Julia Grunewald who comes to product management from a different angle but one that totally makes since once she talks about it.
We talk about how the successful product manager checks their ego at the door and leans on the customer to tell them what they need.
How using the language of the customer can unlock some really interesting discoveries and the key is to listen for what the customer is looking to accomplish rather than what they ask for.

In this Episode I talk with Kimberely about her career and how she got into cyber security, even with only 3 months of college. We also discuss how she managed to become one of the top women in the field and how show jumping keeps her grounded. She also has advice on how we can get more women into technology.
Kimberley is our Director of Strategic Accounts for Tanium, based in Vancouver supporting the Western Canadian territory. She has worked in business development for the last 25 years, with over 20 years of IT experience and has specialized in cybersecurity for the last 5 years. She has worked for Canadian technology giants TELUS and Bell, and also for two of the world’s largest cybersecurity vendors, before joining Tanium at the beginning of 2020. Kimberley has become completely addicted to the cybersecurity field as global cyber risks continue to rise, as does the talent shortage. She volunteers with ISACA’s international charity, the OneInTech Foundation, as a member of the global SheLeadsTech Council, and is committed to engaging, empowering and elevating women in technology. She is a member of the Government of B.C.’s Provincial Security Advisory Council (PSAC) and is also very passionate about mentoring, connecting, and inspiring people. Outside of her professional life, she is an avid equestrian and an amateur competitive show jumper.

Oliver is an IT architecture and DevOps leader with over 20 years experience in a variety of IT roles across energy, government, telecommunications, banking and professional services. Oliver joined Tanium from Deloitte where he spent 3 years as the Chief Architect for Risk Advisory – responsible for driving innovation, digital transformation and architecture of solutions for clients across a variety of risk areas. Oliver has led on the architecture of on prem, private cloud, Azure, Office 365 and AWS initiatives. Oliver leads on the Tanium Reference Architecture for IT Operations and Cyber capabilities. Oliver is a seasoned speaker and advisor on Innovation, Architecture and DevOps. Oliver has a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science from the University of Essex and has been a BCS Chartered IT Professional since 2012.

Chris Cruz serves as Tanium’s Vertical CIO for SLED (State, Local, Education), bringing over 30 years of government and public sector leadership to the role, including tenure as the Director and CIO for the County of San Joaquin in Stockton, California. Prior to this position, he served as the State of California’s Deputy CIO, and was the CIO for the California Department of Food and Agriculture, the Department of Health Care Services, and was the first such leader for the Health Benefits Exchange, now referred to as Covered California.
Cruz earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from California State University at Sacramento, and a certification from the UC Davis Master’s Program in Leadership Excellence. He was recognized by State Scoop as one of the 2020 County Executive Leaders of the Year, and received national honors from the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) as the 2018 State Technology Innovator of the Year.

Tim Morris | Financial Services Strategist
Tim joined Tanium in May 2021, after retiring from Wells Fargo, where he spent 21 years. He led the Cyber Threat Engineering and Research teams within Information & Cyber Security for the bank.
Tim has worked with almost every facet of computer and network technologies. Concentration has been with endpoint detection & response, systems & patch management, and vulnerability assessment. He has built teams that manage: endpoint security, platform engineering, incident response, digital forensics, and offensive security, i.e., "red team".
Tim was first introduced to Tanium in 2008. However, he didn't begin working with it fully until 2013. Tim was privileged to have the opportunity to be one of the first to deploy & manage Tanium at a large scale on 500K endpoints. At the same time, he was able to build one of the best cyber security engineering teams in the industry. Their effectiveness and efficiency were due in large part to Tanium - The best incident response and system management tool in the industry.
