G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero through the eyes of South African fanboys.
Here's the Latest Episode from GI Joburg:
In our 172nd outing we welcome Corbra Lang to the playmotion/stopmotion fold! After the release of his epic showdown "RAGING STORM" on the GI JOBURG YouTube channel, and on the eve of releasing the even more epic "SNAKEBITE" film this coming weekend (05/30/2020), we wanted to get the scoop from the creator of these awesome adventures. Using a mix of techniques including green screen, stop motion, and even a talking pet animation mobile application (!!!) this Canadian fella is one of the pioneers of this new way of playing with your toys.
Dare I say a new artform?
Plus Steve's got a new toy, we sink our teeth into the recent artwork reveals surrounding the 6" Joe, and address a terrific listener question we missed from last ep.
We took to the socials for questions YOU wanted answers to and we are overjoyed to publish the results in our 171st session! Thanks to everyone who took part, and if we missed you this round, we'll be sure to do this again because
Find out which figures would have been enhanced by including an exotic pet; get GI Joburg's opinion on the Retro Collection; GI Joe in the cinema; and some very honest opinions on trees and "Durban Poison"...
YO JOE! BUUUUUURG!
Steve chats to Troy, creator of the Clairvoyance trilogy; and Cody, creator of The Secret Machine. Great insights into these epic playmotion adventures and shenanigans ensue! Don't know what I'm talking about? Click the links below to hop over to the GI Joburg YouTube channel and check these incredible videos out!
169 is filled to the brim! So much so, we invited JD Onesi from the General Geekery podcast to help lift the load. We pay our respects to the late master, Hector Garrido, packaging artist for the initial toys and one of the key men instrumental in making GI Joe the most enduring toyline of all time. We get JD's honest opinion on the 6" line of Joes. And we reopen a debate that has raged previously on the pod: is the Pyramid of Darkness junk or gem?!
Selected episodes of the classic Joe cartoon are currently available FREE on Hasbro's YouTube account. So relive the adventure with us!
Deep within lockdown, three operatives come together to spin a tale of intrigue, peril, and action involving Dusty, Shockwave, Hit & Run... and the coolest six-wheel drive in GI Joe.
Plus the usual shenanigans by the lot who refuse to put down their playthings.
It's a world gone mad.
It's GI Joburg 168.
And we cannot be stopped!
Presenting a very special installment of our vehicle battle debates, this time we pit different decos of the same vehicles against one another to see which version of notorious Joe or Cobra vehicles would reign supreme in a fantasy showdown! We also discuss all six inches of Destro and welcome friend of GI Joburg Bart Simon onto the show! Steve has a full set of Impel GI Joe cards and loooooves the write-ups on the back, and the lockdown shenanigans continue with illicit deals for smokes and toys!
Steve sits down to chat with Robert Calupitan, Manila local with the skinny on the thriving toy collector culture in the Philippines. We talk giant robots, small robots, and of course GI Joe's operations in the Pacific Theater!
Check out our toy hunting expedition here!
Music Cred: "Covert Operations" by Floydshayvious and Occams Laser.
Social Distancing, surgical masks, and toilet paper shortages make us think of only one thing: HAZARDOUS ENVIRONMENT TROOPERS! The Joburg boys give a rundown of their faves to determine who they'd want to deploy on this new and frightening battleground!
Steve gives a report on toy hunting in Manila and his latest find: the MAGGOT with WORMS! Paul asks the important question: You know you're a Joe fan when...
We get stuck into the latest webisode release: "Coldfire", Cujo chats up The BL^CK BOOK, Paul discusses his recent live art stream, and we touch on the current collaboration between Talking Joe and GI Joburg
It's all going down in 166!
Paul, Rob, and Cujo talk about the recent Toy Fair New York. Their personal highlights of the show, and more importantly GI Joe Classified: the new 6-inch toy line from Hasbro. We hope everyone has a blast with us, especially Steve, who finally gets his wish: an episode he can listen to ear unheard. :D
GI Joburg is on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Teespring, and PATREON!
Rob and Steve chat to Scot G, creator of the Fight For Freedom mod for Arma III. We featured some of his stuff in this YouTube vid last year, and we are thrilled to invite him on the show to discuss the nitty gritty of his incredible work. Can a HiSS take out a MOBAT? Can Cobra La play a legitimate role in GI Joe lore? What exactly is an Armadillo mini tank based off of? This and more in episode 164!
And if you like what the man is doing, hop on his Patreon here and see how you can get involved!
GI Joe is a toyline with incredible highs, and a few notable lows. But living in the middle are so-so toys that will forever be skippable... Or are they?
In Episode 163 the lads challenge themselves to convince fellow Joburg members of the merit of the less-than-stellar entries into the line. Will anyone be reaching for their credit card by the end of the show?
Plus, Paul got a T-Rex.
GI Joburg is on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Teespring and PATREON!
This episode brought to you by Movicol - for the swift relief of chronic constipation. Wooo.
It's on everyone's lips, so the time has come to have the six inch GI Joe chat. Opinions differ, and this is going to be an ongoing saga for sure, but here's how the GI Joburg lads break on the subject.
Also, The boys chat the GI Joe: War On Cobra mobile game; Steve has a mess of Street Fighter II figures that require discussion; and he may or may not have escaped China without the dreaded Cornavirus...
First episode of 2020! The squad assembles to hi-light the year that was, and then cast their minds forward to imagine the tech that could be employed in the GI Joe and Cobra vehicles OF THE FUTURE.
There are new toys to discuss, and new plans to be teased at, and we’d be delighted if you joined the fun by dropping a comment on the Podbean episode thread... Cujo has great plans to run it better than Joe Rogan’s...
Oh yeah, and GI JOBURG is now on Patreon. Better late than never, ey? We welcome your support if you wish to give it! Click here to see how you can help GI JOBURG!
Season’s Greetings from the Joburg crew! On our festive episode the boys count down their 12 favourite independent content creators; address the “other franchise” (Star Wars); and share some of their most cherished Christmas toy memories. Grab a cider and a mince pie and tuck in with us!
Also, if you’re wanting to buy in to Action Force by Valaverse, it’s not too late! The Kickstarter may be successfully funded but you can still buy the toys! And what’s more, stretch goals are still there for the unlocking! Head here to see how you can get in on the ACTION!
Steve turned 35 and so did everybody’s favourite transforming robots! The boys discuss the bots that also rocked their world alongside Joe and also give a rundown on their biggest cases of buyers remorse...
Watch out everybody, it’s JOBURG: UNCUT! We were supposed to put out a show, one of our members was a no-show... but we got to talking anyway and this is the result!
Viva AmaBokke Bokke, VIVA! The REAL O.G. Green Team! Please excuse the South Africans for beating their drum a little on this one. Last weekend our national rugby team, the Springboks, were crowned world champions in the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan. This would mark our third victory since being allowed back into international tournaments after the lifting of a sports boycott in 1995. And we are overjoyed to be lifting that trophy again. In honour of sporting achievements, we chat about Joes and Cobra’s with unique sports interests.
But in case you were worried that sports fever had the slightest possibility of taking over the nerdy Joburg boys, fear not! We delve into a discussion of our definitive versions of Psyche-Out; an exposé on our favourite GI Joe and Cobra linguists; some Joevember art appreciation; and speculation on the origin of the Baroness’ file name! It’s a mixed bag filled with enthusiastic Joe goodness!
Just in time for your Halloween celebrations, GI Joburg assembles a four man team to embark on a perilous mission using only a small rubber raft and four accessories.
The machine gun.
Can they survive their ordeal?
Plus: Hong Kong protest on-the-scene reporting courtesy of Steve, an evaluation of which Shockwave is superior - Night Force or regular; and a discussion of some of the finer Joe works this Inktober.
And if you're looking to track down a copy of BL^CK BOOK, here's where the journey begins...
Totally stole this idea off StarJoes... But if you were forced to select one year's Joe figures, one year's Cobra figures, one year's Joe vehicles, and one year's Cobra vehicles WITHOUT doubling up on any particular year - which do you pick?! And can you anticipate your fellow Joburger's choices? Some found it easier than others...
We also weigh in on HasLab's successful Unicron crowdfunding initiative and the very recent blockbuster, JOKER.
It's just short of two hours of shenanigans with the full Joburg squad. Enjoy!
A number of times during this GI Joburg adventure, Steve's dropped hints about "Shifters" - a plotline that involved GI Joe characters... but quickly evolved into something far more. For a brief time, it was the best fun he had with his action figures. Quite possibly the best time he ever had with his two best childhood friends.
It was unlike anything to come before, unlike anything that came after. It was a fantastical time. And in this episode he takes childhood friends Alastair and Robert along for a nostalgia ride unlike any other. Join us as we span realities and enter the world of THE SHIFTERS.
We are thrilled to announce the first entry in our GI Joburg Special Forces portal: "Clairvoyance"! Written, shot, edited and uploaded to YouTube by our ally, Troy Smith, it chronicles the events taking place after the Blazing Sand series and introduces slew of new characters for both GI Joe and Cobra.
*WARNING* This podcast is best consumed AFTER checking out the film. And trust us on this one, you're going to want to! Here's the link to the episode:
And if you're looking for some of the coolest GI Joe apparel out there, look no further than the GI Joburg Teespring store! Wooooo!
Today on GI Joburg you're going to meet the Real South African Heroes: Tabie and Roelof. Two Saffer's who bleed green, know that the real Man of Steel doesn't wear a cape, and call traffic lights "Robots". We kick back and swap war stories of being GI Joe collectors in Deepest Darkest.
You can find Tabie at: https://www.facebook.com/The.Toy.Goblin/
And Roelof at: https://www.facebook.com/Jijoesa/
He's the man penning the new GI Joe book from IDW... What GI Joe toy does Paul Allor have on his writing desk?
We get a handle on the world and characters from his new Joe continuity, due in September and currently available for pre-order...
Time for another fireside chat with your boys at GI Joburg! We chat about the latest webseries, a bit about Action Force by Valaverse, The BL^CK BOOK, and of course some of the amazing content from Cobra Convergence IV!
Steve got some new Joes as a belated wedding present. They were the final figures on his hitlist. Ever considered what your final Joes are/were? Why were they your lowest priority and have you since discovered their merit? This and other important questions are pondered by the Joburg crew!
We finally have a chat with the most exciting name in action figure design today, Mr Bobby Vala of Valaverse.com and the Action Force Kickstarter. We reflect on his incredible journey and what will no doubt be the first chapter in a storied career of independent toy production.
As of this episode's publishing, there is one week to go to show support and bring these glorious toys into existence so head on down to https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/actionforce/action-force
We wouldn't be underselling it to say that action figure fans everywhere are very fortunate to have a man this passionate, talented and caring working in toys today.

We chat to longtime friend and supporter of the channel, Ronald Hof on the topic of restoring these gorgeous toys of our youth to their former glory. Ron is a master of the restorations game, and it's certainly a topic we've been itching to discuss with him for some time. After all, he's the guy responsible for getting GI Joburg its very own Defiant Launch Complex. We also discuss the man's favourite toys and collecting philosophy. So climb into Ron's toyroom with us and Live The Adventure!
It's Rob versus Paul in the ultimate GI Joburg Quiz! With special appearance by Steve's mom! Enjoy the thrills, spills, and raw entertainment of nerds challenging themselves on Joburg trivia for fabulous prizes and the title of Ultimate GI Joburg Champion 2019! WOOOOOO!!!
Avengers: Endgame is up for discussion. Spoilers for the film, naturally... and a healthy dose of spoilers for the Game of Thrones finale too! If you love the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this is the show for you!
Hot on the heels of Recondo's fight for survival on YouTube in "Blood In The Water", we recorded this pod to reflect on behind-the-scenes shenanigans. Steve and Rob's childhood friend, Alastair joins the fray (he's the reason we have a concluding chapter to begin with!).
In the second half, the gang discuss new toys they got in, with an unexpected debate on who is the best Slaughter's Renegade!
And if you'd like to help a fellow Joe content-creator realize a dream, check out JoeMotionVideo's GoFundMe. He wants to make an appearance at JoeFest this year but needs our help. And take it from us, attending a convention on our favourite toyline is a profound experience. So if you are in a position to help a fellow Joe-Bro, click the link below!
What?! No Avengers episode?! Thanos may have wanted to save the universe by snapping half of us out of existence... but there is another way! Join us as we offer sincere appreciation of GI Joe's Eco Warrior toys. And a bathtub squeezy toy named Finback...
We're back! Spread around all corners of the globe, GI Joburg is here with the scoop on their most notorious awkward weapons! We also climb into a discussion of the definitive Road Pig and upcoming conventions.

So GI Joburg finally made good on their threats to put the Flagg to sea. Check out our Blazing Sand series and then give this ep a whirl for the inside scoop!
So the less celebrated decade of the vintage Real America Hero toyline gets some love in this episode as we look at 12 (or so...) card artworks, comparing them side by side and voting for an overall favourite pick. We took to Twitter and Facebook to gather listener favourites, put ALL of them into a box and drew them. We even recorded it and popped it onto YouTube here!
Cujo presents a series of engrossing interviews recorded at the recent Long Beach Comic Convention. The topic? GI Joe, of course!

What an incredible year! 2018! Awesome guests on the show; the expansion of the YouTube channel; the SUCCESSFUL GoFundMe campaign; JOECON (!!!); new friends; new toys; and finally a Jinx to Steve's Falcon. It's a bumper episode of enthusiastic boys and their beloved hobby. Hope you enjoy listening to the fun as much as we enjoyed recording it.Track Featured in Cujo's Filecard insert: Chronopolis by Ivan Black
It Christmas time again! Rob, Paul and Steve chat about the issue that plagues all collectors around this time of year - making space for new toys! Steve calls it "downsizing"... Paul prefers to just call it "collecting goals". Whatever you call it, it's time we had "the talk"! We also weigh in on the Snake Eyes film, and cap things off with some festive fun!
HO HO HO Everybody, Merry Christmas!
It was the podcast that almost never happened... three times (at least). Maybe we should have taken the hint... But we defied fate and the powers that be to bring you a discussion of the greatest controversy classic GI Joe: ARAH ever produced: Cobra La (lalalalalalalalalala!).
We talk the three-pack, weird historical coincidences, and our VERY varied reception of this animation milestone. Plus a little much needed reflection and thanks-giving for the epic year that was 2018.
Yo Joburg everybody!
What, the episode title wasn't enough? We chat to the one and only Rap Viper in this episode about his new album, Rhyme Your Business. Of course the usual toy nostalgia trip ensues as we get down to what makes the premier GI Joe lyricist tick.
Like the tunes? Head over to https://propsdept.bandcamp.com/ and check out Wordburglar's albums!
In this podcast we feature:
Input Blitz feat. Mega Ran (prod. by MisterE, cuts by DJ Irate);
Wrong Ralph Pulaski [Cobrapocalypse Pt. 1] (prod. by Timbuktu, cuts by DJ Irate);
and of course,

Happy Halloween everyone! The GI Joburg team join forces to author a spooky tale of three Cobra agents' attempt to escape a grizzly fate in the buried freighter on Cobra Island. We have no idea what comes next! Enjoy the madness...
So our buddy and customizer extraordinaire Jim Godfrey had a chance meet up with Bob Brechin of Palitoy fame. Bob was there in the heydays of Action Man, and was the man chiefly responsible for the initial 1/18 scale Action Force figures. Naturally a full-blown, Full-Force discussion of those awesome oddities from the Island Nation follows as we get into some of Jim's most beloved British action figures and vehicles!
We've got long-time listener and pal Dave Cabal on this episode! The topic? Dave's of the opinion that it's Flint calling the shots on the GI Joe team, NOT DUKE! WHAAAAAT?!? But hear the man out, he may have some arguements that surprise us all.
We discuss fanatasy film castings for everyone's favourite black beret-wearing baddass and climb into a nostalgia topic that asks: if we could go back in time and re-live our childhood with our Joe toys would we do anything differently?
Be sure to check out Twitter and Facebook for the ULTIMATE DUKE VERSUS FLINT POLL!
Two years ago we added a recurring segment to the show entitled "Definitive Sculpt". In it, we hoped to determine for ourselves which versions of which character are our "go-to's". We got the ball rolling with Storm Shadow and since then we've had our fair share of amicable agreements and devastating disagreements. It's now time to take on GI Joe's most enduring icon, the (mostly) black-clad, (almost always) silent, ninja/commando (or is that commando/ninja?!) - SNAKE EYES.
We also pit the FANG up against the Swampfire up against the Locust in an all-out chopper duel YOU determine the outcome of on our Twitter or Facebook polls.
And we close out with a discussion of our earliest GI Joe memory.
It's a bumper episode so pull some toys down from the shelf and enjoy!
Cujo presents some choice interviews from the 10th Long Beach Comic Con, held on September 8th and 9th, 2018. Insight on topics ranging from Golobulus to Hama... Get in the trenches with our on-the-scene corresponent and get some fresh angles on GI Joe!

On our JoeCon Journey we encountered many Joe Friends for the first time, one of whom was Magnus, an extraordinary Lego builder who builds pretty much exclusively GI Joe! It's the most epic merging of these great toys we've ever seen! But why take my word for it? See for yourself!
or check out our bonus video of seeing his creations in person for the first time!
Steve got a Mauler at JoeCon. And would you believe ONLY NOW, a full two months after the event, is it in his hands?! In honour of Joe tanks, the boys are pitting their favourites against Steve's Mauler in a battle that YOU decide the outcome of! Polls will be held on the GI Joburg Twitter page and Facebook group for the next five days, so listen to the podcast and get voting!
Also in this episode, we pay tribute to the late Russ Heath. Joe fans everywhere are indebted to this man.
It's been a month since our epic USA adventure and we've had ample time to reflect on the time that was. So we're unpacking some of our experiences and of course all of the awesome toys we've acquired. What toys may have surprised us... and what toys may have disappointed us...
And it wouldn't be an episode of GI Joburg without some debate! So we pit the Raider against the HAVOC and the Battle Wagon against the Earthquake as we ask the eternal playground question: who would win in a fight!?
We asked for suggestions on Facebook and Twitter as to what collectors thought were the best figure card artwork from the first four FSS series'. Now we pit the best of the best in a battle to the top of the pile! Massive thanks to Chris McLeod of The Full Force Podcast for not only guesting on the show, but putting together this gorgeous video presentation for all our benefit! If you get the chance, experience them at:
After an incredible weekend at JoeCon 2018 and a day of sightseeing in Washington, the guys unwind and reflect on the time that was. No frills, just four guys talking about the experience. Oh, and also historical: it's the first podcast the members of GI Joburg have ever reorded from the same location. WHAAAAAT?!
HERE WE GO! Final podcast before Steve, Paul and Rob board a plane to the 2018 G.I. Joe Convention! It's nothing short of a dream. We chat about our Convention expectations, dreams, aspirations. The itinerary is discussed and as a special treat, we've got customiser extraordinaire Jim Godfrey on the show to talk about a very special custom he's been working on... If you're headed to the Con and want to get into the mood; or if you're not going to the Con and you want a slice of the action, GI Joburg is there!
A REAL SOUTH AFRICAN HERO!
The boys keep it breezy on this one with a bit of community news, some non-news about Solo, what toys the boys hope to grab at JoeCon, and a definitive section devoted to LAW! Join us for a spot of light fun! And if you haven't heard it already, catch Steve as he guests on Joe On Joe Podcast!
Our official GI Joburg T-shirts are currently being printed! If you want an exclusive T or two and help the boys with their JoeCon journey, please consider heading down to our Go Fund Me before the campaign is deadder than disco! But seriously, don't miss out on the cool incentives because this is the only time they will be offered!
Ever since we owned our first vehicle an eternal question has plagued us: who sits where? How do you decide? Cartoon or comic book appearances? Filecard info? Personal preference? Colour scheme?!?
The Joburg boys are joined by JD Onesi of General Geekery Podcast, one of the most well-versed GI Joe geeks out there, to decide on the best personel for some of their favourite vehicles. We also start getting hyped about JoeCon and the recent release of our final Atlantis Factor episode. And if you donate $5 or more to our Go Fund Me before the end of Sunday the 27th of May 2018, you get to decide who features in our next web series!

Dual topic on this show! GI Joburg discuss their personal fave picks of the unexpected FSS 8.0. And then we introduce the GI Joburg HALL OF SHAME! Not every toy released under the Joe banner was a winner and in this episode the boys introduce their LEAST favourite figures, vehicles, and concepts from their beloved toyline. Rob and Steve have been hitting the bottle and Paul's head is always swimming in paint fumes so prep thyself for... shenanigans.
And hey! As always, if you have a few bucks lying spare, we're drawing closer to our goal and you can be a part of this awesome JoeCon success story! Aaaand score some exclusive Joburg merch. Check us out at:
Steve is in Romania of all places! It's the home of Dracula and and some of the creepiest castles around! So what better opportunity to talk about GI Joe's very own Silent Castle and it's role in the mythology? Take a trip with us as we engage in some operations deep inside Eastern Europe...
And it's getting down to the wire for our JoeCon 2018 GoFundMe! Will the South Africans make it to their first JoeCon in June this year? If you like what we do and you're in a position to help out, please check our campaign over at www.gofundme.com/gijoburg-joecon2018

There will be blood. And it will be from your haemmoraging credit card. AND if you already have the greatest toys in the universe, and you love this show, maybe you can part with some sheckles to help us get to JoeCon 2018!
So Black Panther is a thing... the boys have one or two opinions on it they would like to share. But we've also got some exciting news to discuss with regards to the Joe Fund Me campaign, and also a discussion of the most recent YouTube adventure: Atlantis Factor Part 2 Featuring the Moray! So even if you feel like the movie hype is a little played out, there are a few other reasons to give this episode a spin. Not least of which because you love us, and we looove you!
Here's a real mixed bag of an episode, with an overarching theme of "Conventions"... Cujo is bursting with tales to tell of his time at the Long Beach Comic Expo where he had, amongst other things, a run-in with Aubrey Sitterson! What went down? Only one way to find out! Also, Rob tables a discussion of cute vinyl Joes and Cobra's with creepy green eyes; Steve considers supporting HasLab in their attempts to crowdfund Jabba's Sail Barge (if for no other reason than to make Boba Fett die like a bitch); there is talk of the Python Patrol versus Slaughter's Marauders Convention set... and finally: are there any truly seaworthy boats in the A Real American Hero toyline? GI Joburg playtest a few firm favourites while shooting a YouTube video and the results may shock and amaze!
And after all that madness, if you still love us and want to see us at JoeCon this year, check out our Joe Fund Me on GoFundMe! We're gonna make it! This is awesome!!!
Tom Scioli and John Barber's Transformers VS G.I. Joe. 'Nuff said.

Lastly, if you'd like to help three South African lads experience their first JoeCon, and chronical their epic journey on this podcast channel, check out our Joe Fund Me on GoFundMe:
Our first full roster ep recorded in 2018 and boy is there a lot to talk about. The JoeFundMe; The Barracuda vid, and now the Transportable Tactical Battle Plaform vid that just dropped; the uncertain future of Toys R Us has compelled us to wax nostalgic about our most treasured TRU memories; and the announcement of a proposed Joe movie in 2020 makes us want to revisit an old fave of a topic: what would we want from a GI Joe film?
It's a party. Jump in!
Please forgive the numbering faux pas! It was the silly season and I goofed. But let's all have a moment for 2017. What a year for our little corner of the fandom. The Joburg boys reflect on the personal highs of the year. Cujo announces his GI Joe Twitter awards, accompanied by the sick beats of Nick Force; and Steve announces the winners from episode 106's deathmatch battles!
As always, if you love us, please consider supporting us on https://www.gofundme.com/gijoburg-joecon2018
Let's go, 2018!
If you thought we were gonna hold back on doing a Star Wars special; THINK AGAIN. How could we resist adding our opinions to the veritable tsunami of opinions surrounding THE LAST JEDI?
Merry Christmas Joburgers!
And please check out our Joe Fund Me campaign! Get GI Joburg to Joe Con 2018!
Time for some Festive Fun! Join GI Joburg as we pit classic and newskool Joe and Cobra hardware against each other, deathmatch syle. But this time, YOU determine the winner. GI Joburg climbs into a detailed discussion of the F.S.S 7.0 figure images and determine their favourites with the help of a favourite guest: Paul from Plastic Battles! Is 7.0 worth your hard earned dime? Give the episode a spin and we might just help make up your mind.
If you're listening to GI Joburg, chances are you're a little obsessed about toys. The tactile elements. The imaginitive elements. The nostalgic elements. But how would your enjoyment be affected if you could no longer see? In our 103rd session we interview Chris Huff, AKA The Blind Master about his love for toys both before and after losing his sight. It's a tale that needs to be told, and one that has certainly left the Joburg boys a little more in love with our collections than we were before. We can all stand to learn a thing or two from this man.
Happy Halloween from GI Joburg! And even if Halloween is not your thing, we know you're gonna dig a discussion of the team's definitive Evil Master of Disguise... ZARTAN! (...changes colors right before your eyes... ZARTAN!). In keeping with the theme, the boys rattle off their favourite fancy-dress Joe's as well as a pair of freakshow new Cobra agents you wouldn't want stalking you after dark... Mwahahahahahahaha!
There is a great divide in our hobby. GI Joe collectors are split right down the middle. You're either a vintage guy or a modern era guy. You might even be a girl... But my point is, sure, you can like both... but can you truly claim to like them both EQUALLY? In Episode 101 you will hear opinions from two polar opposites on how they view this conundrum. Representing all that is vintage is GI Joburg's Steve. Representing the modern era, we welcome back an exciting voice of our community - STRYDENT! Do you mix it all up and do battle royale? Or do you blow a gasket at the sight of Pursuit of Cobra figures climbing all over a vintage vehicle? It's time we had "The Talk"...
What's in a number, right? Well, if nothing else, it's a great excuse to feature some FANTASTIC guests on the show. In an episode loosely subtitled GI Joe: The Past, Present and Future; we go way back to some treasured childhood memories with Steve's oldest friend, Alastair Stokell; we talk figure and vehicle customization with a master of the game, Jim Godfrey; and we speculate on the future of GI Joe with a true pillar of the community, Bryan "HCC788" Lower. Pop a cork with us and let's ring in the triple digits! It only took six years...
And now for something a little... illuminating. GI Joe is under fire, and Cujo has been in the trenches. In our ninety-ninth official outing we offer the mic up to our American correspondent for the truth on IDW, GI Joe, and the preeminence of Larry Hama. If you're in the mood for untangling a mystery or two, step a little closer...
And once again, if you wish to help our pal Timmer on his quest to donate toys to children in need, you can find the relevant vid at:
Time to wrap up on another miniseries. Operation Dragonfire, love it or hate it, it's part of GI Joe history. And to quote the Sally Jupiter from Watchmen: "Every day, the future looks a little bit darker. But the past... even the grimy parts of it... keep on getting brighter."
And you don't get much grimier than Operation Dragonfire.
But dammit, I love it all the same.
Also, please take a look at a very noble initiative by fellow Joe content creator on YouTube - Timmer. You can find the relevant vid at:
This episode has it all! Double crosses! Triple crosses! The titanic struggle between Cobra Commander and Serpentor! Low-Light being a baddass! Zarana getting dumped! A spectacular aerial duel between some underutilized Cobra jets! And of course, a conspicuous yellow panty...
Since the one true CC is being reinstated, it felt right to pay tribute to his finest action figure incarnations.
So what are you waiting for?!
APE WARRIORS OF COBRA, ATTACK! It's the third part of Operation Dragonfire and things are getting interesting! Thanks to hygene problems back at Cobra HQ, Scoop learns a dark secret and is forced into a crisis of conscience. It's the tipping point of the series and it plays out Temple of Doom-style!
And check this out: Rock & Roll is our figure focus. Can OG 13 edge out twin gatling guns? Or could there be an upset?
Mudfighters! The Thunderclap! Luxury Kayaks! It's all here and more in Day 2 of Operation Dragonfire! Join the Cujo, Paul, Robert and Steve as they discuss their highs and lows of the second installment, with a special focus on their definitive Alley Viper.
ALLEY VIPER LEAP!!!
We've run out of Sunbow miniseries' to review... So this September we reach for the DIC! But it's not all bad. In fact, some of it is pretty darn interesting. Stay tuned as we discuss the highs and lows of this era of GI Joe cartoon adventures for five days straight! We also discuss the potential animal companions of the GI Joburg squad, and we see red with a definitive sculpt section devoted to the Crimson Guard. Stay locked onto us this week for a whole lotta DIC.
Okay, the DIC thing is getting old, I'll try to reign it in. But it was so damn funny to me as a child. I don't think I'll ever get over it.
Choose Your Own Adventure: '90s Subteam Edition! Join us as we live-roleplay three tales based around a few of the most notorious GI Joe and Cobra subsets. Lily and Paul are on the line from Joburg, Rob's in Cape Town. Cujo joins us from Long Beach and Steve is in Singapore of all places. It's another triple timezone debacle.
Do you take the Blue pill? Do you take the Red pill? Either way, be sure to take your dose of GI Joburg.
It's SHARC week and we sink our jaws into GI Joe's premier flying submarine! Definitive sculpt section this ep is on Buzz LightyeaDEEP SIX (of course)! The boys give a rundown of their favourite submarine books and films and a healthy bit of debate on which would win in an air/sea duel - the SHARC or the Sea Ray?
SHARC love to the max...
Some folks out there might want to skip this one... We're tackling a subgroup that may well be the one that made GI Joe jump the shark. We are talking Ninja Force. And the opinions shared may shock you. Or amuse you. Hopefully both. We get into the art of negative reinforcement and the double bluff, courtesy of our man Psyche Out. And our definitive sculpt section deals with the first lady of GI Joe, a woman with no shortage of ninja connections, the one and only Scarlett. So check your spring action ninja moves and get ready to throw down with Slice & Dice & Everything Nice!
It's Episode 90! So we're talking the 1990's! Like duh. The neon. The spring-loaded missiles. The football lingo. We'll tackle it all. We answer the important questions like whether Low-Light should be blonde or beardy. And whether Aubrey Sitterson is winning the war on Cobra mind control...
Today we talk Toynography ("toy+photography" - let's see if it catches on...) with a master of the game: Paul Panfalone. He's a professional photographer and art director who is the man responsible for @plasticbattles. His stuff is good. Really good. Listen to the show; scroll thru his Insta; be inspired, Joburgers.
At GI Joburg, we pride ourselves on our originality. So for our 88th mission, we bring you a special on 1988! We talk the toys, the concepts, the characters. With no 'toon to back it up, who were these guys? What world called for Cobranauts, hostile environment troopers, and mutant frogmen? GI Joe was dropping big bombs and Destro was into something DEMONic. It was an interesting time.
We kick it off with our definitive Iron Grenadier picks. 'Cos, what else?
GI Joburg runs down its favourite vehicle redecos to determine the finest reuse of a classic mold. We do a definitive sculpt section on everybody's favourite redeco Viper: Mercer! There's also an unexpected guest waiting in the wings. AND it wouldn't be a GI Joburg list show without a rundown of the WORST colour schemes to ever pollute our beloved toys. Shenanigans ensue...
PAUL. GOT. A. TERRORDROME.
So we revisit an ancient topic that's ripe for revisiting: The Big Three. Get 'em? Don't get 'em? We share some honest opinions about the Flagg, The Defiant, and the Terrordrome... now that we have all three!
Cujo calls it 'The Terrordome'. It's weird.
We also do some coverage of Cape Town's premier fan convention, with the very original name of FanCon.
Get it, Joburgers...
That means "Everybody Loves Eels". Don't forget it.
It's Episode 85 and GI Joburg gets wet and wild with one of the best figures of 1985. Possibly the best figure... ever. We also get into some fanmail on the topic of Joes you'd want to have your back in the big bad jungle... and the Cobra foes that would get you quivering in your boots.
There's also a chick on the show. Oh. Yeah.
Deep dive with Stephen, Paul, Robert, and Cujo into the new live-action Ghost in the Shell 2017 movie as GI Joburg discusses everything to do with Ghost in the Shell, consciousness, cyborgs, souls, and technology gone wild. We also talk about our newest GI Joe major acquisition, and choose our definitive tech accessories and figures. And to wrap things up, we wonder how GI Joe could have been done differently if the Japanese had come up with the Real American Hero concept. Yo Joe!
Come join us in 1983 as we explore the year's selection of figures and vehicles. Find out what our favourites and least favourites are, and how Rob gets out of a burning building with more toys than Paul, Stephen, and Cujo combined.
Ever wanted to meet up with three pals, assemble your troops, brief them on a perilous mission and then let the adventure begin? Yeah. Us too. But [sigh]... adulting. Well, GI Joburg is gonna bring you four missions where one of us briefs, the other assembles the troops and equipment and together we weave the plot! Don't judge. It's how grown-ups play with their action figures.
Also, Mike Zeck comes under an artist spotlight with some inside info from Cujo;
We do a righteous Postbox: The Pit section where a handful of your mail is discussed;
And our definitive sculpt section deals with none other than the Battle Android Trooper!
Introducing STRYDENT! An impromtu Skype call between Paul and Steve and a GI Joe super fan from the States called Ewart morphed very quickly into a GI Joe conversation worth putting into the world. We talk about what we'd do if we were calling the shots in Hasbro; the debate around being a vintage collector, modern era collector, or both; and Doctor Doom! Yep. Doctor Doom.
Battle Force: 2000. It's a broken concept. Whether it's the figure design; the characters and their representation; the vehicles; the gimmick... it's fair to say that these guys missed the mark somewhere along the line. So with the advantage of hindsight, GI Joburg undertake to fix BF2K. How can we make these toys desirable? How do we make sense of GI Joe's "Soldiers of the Future"? Is it even possible? Hit 'play'!
Also, expect much gushery over our new custom figures.
Presenting the conclusion of our MASS Device commentary! Feel free to watch along, with us in your ear, or check out what our pal Michael Mercy does with the audio on YouTube here! Yo Joe!
And here is part four! As always, dear friends you are encouraged to rewatch the first GI Joe animated miniseries with us, or you can watch the awesome YouTube presentation done by our Canadian pal, Mike Mercy here.
Here it is! Available here and on YouTube, GI Joburg's collaboration with Mike Mercy enters it's third chapter. Get your DVD cued up because we're gonna add commentary to episode 3 of the MASS Device. Do yourself a favour and check out what Mike does with the commentary on YouTube here.
These are so much fun, we did another one! Any reason to watch the old 'toon! So here is GI Joburg's commentary on episode 2 of The MASS Device. Watch along with us!
As if you needed an excuse...
So this Canadian fella called Mike made a USS Flagg base based on the base we built. He got a hold of us and a bromance was born. So we decided to do something new with our new friend: cartoon commentary! So pop in your DVD or find the ep on DailyMotion and watch the very first GI Joe cartoon episode with us in your ear!
Happy 2017 GI Joburg friends! We did it last year with The Force Awakens, so we guess it's a tradition now! But hey, don't we have Star Wars to thank for our beloved GI Joe toyline after all? Rogue One tops the agenda. We talk toys, the film, even a bit of conspiracy theory. Black-clad action figures feature in our definitive sculpt section. And of course, a little bit of the indomitable Carrie Fisher.
"General? To me she's royalty."
Seasons Greetings from GI Joburg! And in this Yuletime we take a break from liquor-soaked family gatherings to speak about Joes in isolation... Who is indeed the loneliest operative? Our definitive sculpt discussion kicks us off with Joe's premier survivalist, Outback. And just for kicks, we throw in our top five single seater, small vehicle list.
Enjoy in a group.
Or like Han.
Introducing POSTBOX: THE PIT. We've recieved some terrific correspondence since we've started out. It's time we published a letters' page. This could become a regular thing. And for our definitive sculpt we're talking one-eyed soldiers. ARRRRRR. There be parallel universes, HAVOC and Cross Country appreciation, discussions of poor ol' Storm Shadow's allegiances, we talk Tombstone and the new releases... it's a furious hour and some change. Enjoy! And don't forget to write us...
Resident Evil. We're doing Resident Evil. Because we all love it so and it's now twenty years old! We talk GI Joe zombies for our definitive sculpt section, do a Joe recast of the ill-fated S.T.A.R.S team, indulge in GI Joe/Resident Evil nostalgia, and swap tales of survival horror...
This podcast contains scenes of explicit violence and gore.Itchy.Tasty.
The episode with no topic! So we're calling it: What's on Jo(burg) Mind! Steve's got a new jet, the Ghostsriker X-16; Paul is debating his preorder of 2016 Joes; CuJo relates his encounters with the voice actors for Baroness, Zartan and Destro! For the full interviews check out his podcast 30 Minutes of Diabolical here: http://squidnova.com/lbcc16/
Time to wrap up our five-part breakdown of Arise, Serpentor, Arise! There is no MASS Device. No Weather Dominator. Or Pyramid of Darkness. Only an all-out assault on the Capitol. It's been emotional. We've lost some troops along the way. Let's close this out with commentary, debate, high's, low's, and a definitive sculpt section devoted to everyone's favourite balaclava'd Ranger - it's Beach Head!
It's the penultimate episode of Arise, Serpentor, Arise! And we all agree that this is very much a high water mark for the series. Action. Pathos. Horror. All await in this installment. That, and a meatball monster. And if that isn't enough sales pitch, Hawk is under consideration in our definitive sculpt section. Check it out!
GI Joe is on the ropes! Their salvation lies in the hands of one man, the greatest soldier of our time, SERGEANT SLAUGHTER! But Cobra has plans of their own for the Sarge, and in this review of Part 3 of Arise, Serpentor, Arise! only one thing is insured: Alexander the Great's tomb against the possibility of a fire... Wait, what?!? Zarana features in our definitive sculpt section in this episode.
The continued adventures of GI Joburg cartoon reviews! Kick back as we recite one-liners, gawk at buff dentists, marvel at the Thunder Machine's whacky construction and more. Cobra! And in our definitive sculpt section, it's none other than the muscle-bound, dentist-gone-bad, Doctor Mindbender!
Today, 30 years ago, the fourth and final Sunbow GI Joe cartoon miniseries first aired. GI Joburg puts the focus on this milestone event with special definitive sculpt discussions, and a blow by blow of all we love and secretly loathe about GI Joe's cartoon endeavors! Watch the 'toon (if you even need reminding!), and then put us in your earholes! Yo Joe! And considering the cast of the 'toon, we had to do a definitive sculpt section on Sergeant Slaughter. Had. To.
We're calling this episode: "Filling the Gap". In it, the GI Joburg team discuss Vehicles, Concepts, Equipment and Personnel that were essential to the world of GI Joe, but never made it into toy form. The definitive sculpt section also makes it's appearance... With a twist...And if you need another dose of GI Joe, check out "A Fallen Hero" on Cujo's podcast, 30 Minutes of Diabolical. http://squidnova.com/gijoe/
COBRA ISLAND CIVIL WAR. 'nuff said.
GI Joburg starts a new series of discussions focused on definitive figure sculpts. The first character under discussion? None other than the legendary Storm Shadow. Will we pick your favourite? Or will the outcome shock and amaze?
The Hasbro Cinematic Universe is under the microscope in this episode. Will it rock? Will it suck? We also pick out our favourite Joe Con 2016 reveals, and weed out some less inspiring ones...
We've been pretty harsh on Sunbow GI Joe cartoons in the past. It's a pretty big deal for a lot of Joe fans, so we thought we'd take a look at a few selected episodes to find the love. Did we succeed? Tune in; find out...Also, details on Paul and Cujo's new music venture are hinted at; and the recent spate of superhero flicks come under fire.Yo Joe!
Been a while since we talked toys. Comics and cartoons are all fine and well, but action figures, vehicles, and playsets take the focus back in this episode where the boys crack open their elusive top 5 toys that have evaded capture. They run down their wishlist of toys they're still on the hunt for; and dip their toes into the Hasbro Cinematic Universe concept. Figure Subscription Service 4.0, also comes under fire... *ahem*... receives some focus.
Join Paul, Steve, and Rob as we discuss crossovers, who would win in a fight between Snake Eyes and Iron Fist, and generally have fun talking about comics, brainwashing, and Larry Hama's birthday!
GI Joburg spins its own fan fiction in this episode, but in the style of a Choose Your Own Adventure novel. Surprising. Alarming. Undeniably retro. We also discuss the Collectors Club Sky Patrol set, and FSS Pythona rears her freaky smooth head.Grab your troops and get ready to make the drop...
The Force Awakens. We couldn't resist. Here is the GI Joburg response to the record-breaking return of Star Wars. If there was one thing to stop us talking Joe, this is it...
It's the Holiday Special Special Missions Special Edition! In true GI Joburg style Cujo, Paul, Rob and Steve pick out their highs and the occasional low in this remarkable GI Joe Special Missions comic series. And Happy Holidays Everyone!
For our sixtieth outing, GI Joburg takes a look at something we've been itching to discuss since we started out - GI Joe: Resolute. It came out of nowhere and blew us all away. Or did it? Spin this (very) bumper episode for an extremely in-depth look at the show that took the 'toon out of cartoon... and replaced it with bullets, blades and bombs. Yo Joe!
In the final installment of our five part Pyramid Of Darkness tribute, GI Joburg speaks a little about the 'toon... but mainly just take swipes at its writer, Ron Friedman. Rant alert. You have been warned...
McGuffins abound! Laser Rings! Star Fly's! MASK Crusaders! Flashy Cobra Symbols! And who can forget THE ROBOTOPUSS?!GI Joburg's 30th anniversary series of Pyramid Of Darkness reviews reach fever pitch in our penultimate episode!
High kicks, hi jinks, windmills and yodels. The Pyramid Of Darkness miniseries takes some zany turns in its third installment. No jingle is left unsung as the GI Joburg boys plunge on with their review of this 30 year old 'toon.
Presenting our review of part two of The Pyramid of Darkness. Animal Action on this episode WAS NOT monitored by the American Humane Association...
30 years ago today, the gateway drug to the regular Sunbow GI Joe animated series kicked off with a five part miniseries entitled 'The Pyramid of Darkness'. In a mirror five part podcast series, GI Joburg invites you to relive the show by picking through the highs and lows of this landmark cartoon.
Rest In Peace 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper. He was a Canadian. But he wore a kilt. He was a wrestling superstar. But he was also an Iron Grenadier. He left us this month, and in his honour, GI Joburg air their views on 'real Joes' - figures based on the likeness of real people. Check it out!
SDCC...FSS...50th Anniversary...The terms themselves don't matter. What matters is that new GI Joe toys are coming. Join the GI Joburg lads as they break down our top picks (and a few stinkers) from the latest releases.

The conclusion to Episode 50's Titanic Box Art Battle. Will the Cobra Night Landing and Firefly sabotage all in their ruthless quest for dominance? Or will a new champion rise to the fore? Listen now.
It's the 50th Episode of the GI Joburg Podcast! And it's very long! Paul, Steve, Rob and Cujo chop up their GI Joe news for about 45 minutes before plunging into the ULTIMATE BOX ART BATTLE. After our Card Art Showdown, this topic received its fair share of listener requests...so hereitgoes!
Paul, Rob and Steve were not always devout GI Joe fanatics. In fact, there was a toy collecting craze that eclipsed GI Joe for a number of years. ENTER THE AGE OF TOYBIZ...
GI Joburg is back to unearth some more gems from our toy chest with the aptly titled 'Best of the Rest' tribute. GI Joe left little to be desired in terms of 3'3/4" military toys, but every once in a while, the competition came up with something we could not do without. GI Joburg showcases nine such toys from spinoff toylines that became infamous in their childhood battles.
Hot on the heels of Episode 46, GI Joburg is proud to present the conclusion of its Ultimate Card Art Showdown. Over sixty artworks were submitted. In the last episode sixteen Joe and Cobra artworks battled it out for the eight spots in the finals......but only one can take the title...
It's the Ultimate Card Art Showdown. We've taken eleven of the best and most-loved card artworks ever produced, thrown in a few wildcard picks, and knuckled-down for a brutal, no holds barred knock out tournament. Many will fall;and only one will answer to the title of Ultimate Card Art. Will it be your favorite? Click 'play'...
GI Joburg tackles another listener-suggested topic. This time we discuss the merits and potential membership of a special GI Joe unit made up of former Cobra operatives! And not a mention of Mercer. But there's more to this fertile topic than meets the eye. Which Cobra's would likely make up the team? Would such a scheme even work? Who would oversee them? Do GI Joe's civilian identities 'die' when joining the team? Which Joes are likely to turn traitor? Does anyone do 'silent' dio stories? It's all here...
It's been almost three years, but GI Joburg is finally going to discuss their TOP 5 GI JOE TOYS, EVER. Keeping things interesting, we hear from a handful of listeners and try to guess each other's top picks. It's an episode packed with nostalgia and as always, the greatest toys ever played with.
GI Joburg closes out its series of Revenge Of Cobra reviews. The highs, the lows, a rundown of the best episode, best lines, best characters, best vehicles... and a hearty dose of "YO SNOW!"
GI Joburg presents its penultimate review of The Revenge Of Cobra. Things are hotting up as a major plot twist rocks our heroes... and villains. And we find out exactly why you should always pack your ice skates when you plan to do battle in the frozen north.
It's time for your daily dose of GI Joburg! And today the team sink their teeth into the third part of The Revenge Of Cobra entitled the Temple... er... 'Palace' Of Doom. It's full of cougars and jailbait, 'Peedo and GH, and a whole lot of HObra!
It's the big FOUR-ZERO for GI Joburg. And it's a double celebration as we offer our review of episode two of The Revenge Of Cobra on its 30th birthday. Whew! Yo Joe!And that was a Sunbow "Yo Joe", by the way. The Yo Joeiest Yo Joe you're ever likely to find.
Today 30 years ago GI Joe: The Revenge Of Cobra aired for the first time. You may of course know it by it's street name: 'The Weather Dominator'. The five-part miniseries followed almost exactly a year to the day on the heels of the first GI Joe miniseries, The Adventures Of GI Joe. Or 'Mass Device'. It would appear Sunbow and Marvel had managed trap lightening in a bottle. With new characters, new weapons and equipment and superb production, she's as worthy a topic to podcast as any. So to mark it's 30th anniversary, GI Joburg discusses each episode in turn for the following five days. We kick it off today with episode 1, "In The Cobra's Pit". Watch the 'toon.Listen to the show.Shoot us a message!
GI Joburg shares some very candid opinions on the 50th Anniversary releases. What you can do without; what you can't live without. It's all here, plus a splash of 90's nostalgia for taste. 'The odds are a million to one... and that's the way we like it!'
Everybody has elements of GI Joe they dislike. Everybody. For Rob, it’s the Dreadnoks. For Paul, Battleforce: 2000 gets his ire; for Steve, mention of the D.E.F makes him vomit in his mouth a little. The challenge for episode 37? Try and say something nice about these personal peeves.
Try real hard.
Also, Paul gets acquainted with his 50th anniversary Night Viper and airs his nitpicks.
And remember: real heroes don’t do drugs.
GI Joburg goes primal with a rundown of their top picks for figures with included animals. A brief discussion on dolphin rape ensues. Yes, because that's a thing. Also, a few fantasy casting ideas are mooted for the ultimate GI Joe film cast. Got a few suggestions of your own? We'd love to hear them. Find the thread for this episode and comment on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/GiJoburgAlso, a clip from Robot Chicken that might just be required viewing for this episode can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiB189l2jpIEnjoy!
Steve catches Paul off-guard with a heated discussion of the GI Joe toys produced from 1987-1989. The highs. The lows. The oddities. Which is your favorite year? The one with the Coastal Defender; the one with the Battle Barge; or the one with the Battlefield Robots? It's all here, all fresh, all GI Joburg!
GI Joburg has some dirty laundry. We've been harboring some very unpopular opinions on our GI Joe hobby and the time has come to confess. For long-time listeners, some will not come as a surprise. But there will be a few guaranteed to catch you unaware and shock your mind! Also: what do you suppose the smirk on original Duke's headsculpt is depicting? Joy? Cockiness? Flatulence? Answers this way lie!
In a mission statement somewhere, it was said GI Joburg regularly discusses GI Joe-related Top Five lists... But we can't remember when last we did one of those. So Rob, Paul and Steve each have one in mind. But they're keeping it hush! Also, with JoeCon 2014 wrapping up just prior to the episode, the guys discuss what caught their eye from the coverage so far. Marauderinc's Kickstarter, Acid Rain, Cobra Condors, funny helmets - you'll find it all in Episode 33!

There's talk of the Transportable Tactical Battle Platform and what the hell it's function is; and a lot of love for Blood For The Baron and what they bring to the world. And Matthew Mcconaughey. Yes. You heard right. Matthew Mcconaughey.
With a slew of exciting new GI Joe 50th Anniversary items on the horizon, GI Joburg picks out some of it's favorites. They blast into the past with a look back at the doomed Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future toys, and have their GI Joe figures battle to the death. Confused? Click play and all will be revealed!
Jeeps. GI Joe has a fair number of them. Some of them sporting spring-loaded missile-firing action, or colour-change features, or packaged with a dinosaur... but they are all enduring and fun toys. From series one of A Real American Hero to Retaliation and beyond, the simple joy of loading up a vehicle with figures and crushing some rough terrain is something all fans share. But it begs the question: Which GI Joe combat jeep is the finest of the lot? The debate rages...
Seasons greetings from the GI Joburg fellas!
Flying Hairdryers; split-apart aircraft; colour-changing jeeps; tanks that turn into helicopters; bouncing ballistic battle balls... GI Joe: A Real American Hero was a toyline with a healthy dose of off-the-wall toy concepts. But some of the craziest ideas to be found actually have some basis in reality. Paul, Rob and Steve showcase three concepts that straddle the gap between science fiction and science fact.
The great Sideshow debate rages. The Dolly Lama AKA Paul and Sideshow Bob AKA Rob are tasked with convincing Steve that Sideshow Collectibles' GI Joe Series is worth adding to his collection. In other news: Are Duke and Buzzer the same person? Tune in. Find answers...
It's time to revisit our famous battles topic to see if the Joes can come back from their 3-2 defeat... In this episode Paul, Rob and Steve debate GI Joe and Cobra's best hopes for domination in the aquatic and arctic arenas. It is also with great pride that they announce GI Joburg's entry into the world YouTube video reviews. Do you own an Avalanche snow tank or Shark 9000? Should you? These battles always succeed in getting us fired up about these toys. There's a sneaking suspicion you will be too.Get your Joes. It's payback time.
The fog of Retaliation is lifting and truly spectacular toys are making a return. GI Joburg chimes in with their top three GI Do's and GI Don'ts for the future of their beloved toyline. Paul defends his statue buying and the first hints of GI Joburg's exciting new adventure are dropped. Fly your freak flag high, Joes!
We have bitched about GI Joe's cinematic exploits as much as we dare. For a change, we are offering our two cents on what the ideal GI Joe film should have and even pitch an idea for a screenplay. Listen up to hear what would make at least three members of the fan community very happy Joes.
It's pretty good. All of it actually. Oh dear, the credit card is hemorrhaging. Best get Doc to stop it from bleeding out because these toys are so good. So. So. Good. The GI Joburg team review their in-hand specimens and rediscover the love. The bad figure curse is finally broken.

In this episode the GI Joburg team roll out their top five fantasy picks of characters needing GI Joe action figure treatment.Paul hates on Megan Fox;Steve wants to peel April O'Neil's banana;and Rob has no idea who Jem is......not that Jem is in this episode. Why would we do a thing like that?Get your Snake out of its box and give it a whirl!
So it came and went. The event GI Joe fandom counted the days til. Twice.GI Joe: Retaliation. After firing off some quick responses in Episode 20, the GI Joburg fellas return with more considered opinions on how they felt about the film. No gaping plot holes are left unpoked. Paul takes a swipe at the current slew of movie toys, Steve takes a swipe at rap music, and Rob is incomprehensible, often. But hey, this marks history as GI Joburg's first episode recorded inside a plane!
