Show notes
Is the Stanley Hotel Haunted?
Is the Stanley Hotel haunted? Pat and Rebecca explore one of the world’s most haunted hotels. The Stanley Hotel inspired Stephen King to write The Shining. Over the years many guests have claimed to see ghosts and experienced paranormal activity. Is it true?
Questions Explored in this Episode
What is the history of the Stanley Hotel? Who was Freelan Stanley? Why did he build the hotel, and how long did it take? When did Stephen King stay at the hotel? What happened while he was there to inspire him to write The Shining? Was the movie The Shining filmed at the Stanley Hotel? What are the most popular ghost stories told about The Stanley? Why do they keep a team of paranormal investigators on staff? What is some of the evidence people claim to have that show ghosts at the hotel? Is it haunted?
This week’s listener mail is a piece of real snail mail from a listener telling us about the “mean, tiny boy” picking on her son, but she has never seen him. Have a spooky story or question of your own (or someone you know)? Send your story or question to info@ghostlypodcast.com or leave a voicemail at 630-448-2138 and we might read or share it on the podcast. You could be on a future episode of Ghostly!
Pat explores the history of Estes Park and the Stanley Hotel. Freelan Stanley stayed in the Estes Park area while recovering from tuberculosis. This inspired him to build a hotel for others to receive the same benefits. Several famous guests have stayed at the hotel. One of the most famous was Stephen King, who was inspired to write The Shining after spending the night there in 1974. Listen to hear more #PatFacts about the hotel and how it has gained its reputation as one of the world’s most haunted hotels.
Listen to Rebecca and Pat debate if the hotel is haunted. Visitors report at least 12 ghosts, including Freelan and his wife Flora Stanley; Mrs. Wilson, the housekeeper who still cleans; and Paul, the caretaker who still ushers out those who stay out past opening in the Concert Hall.

2021 New Year’s Predictions with Jacob Mayfield
Jan 01, 2021
Show notes
What are Ghostly’s 2021 Predictions?
In this surprise bonus episode, Pat and Rebecca are joined by mind reader, mentalist, and psychic entertainer Jacob Mayfield for a 2021 reading for Ghostly! Jacob uses home divination techniques that anyone can use without special knowledge (dice, palm reading, and cards). We hope listeners will enjoy doing some fortune-telling themselves using Jacob’s amazing resources (see below). Will Ghostly’s readings come true?
This technique dates back to Ancient Egypt and Greece. It is still popular with certain populations in Africa today and is very easy to do with the help of the text below. Make a circle on the ground, take 3 dice, roll them in the circle, and interpret.
Palmistry is most likely the oldest form of divination in our episode. We see strong evidence of it starting in Ancient China and India and traveling to Ancient Greece. The popularity of chiromancy has gone up and down over the centuries, but overall has remained.
If you want to learn more about Palmistry, Jacob is currently doing a class called “Palmistry 101” through the event app and website Fever. It is a one-hour class where you learn to read your own palm via a Zoom webinar. More will be added soon. Register here: https://feverup.com/m/93538
playing cards. Some New Age or Occult books will claim that cartomancy dates back to antiquity and nearly coincides with the invention of playing cards. However, at least in Europe, we see it around the 14th century.
As a special gift to Ghostly Listeners, Jacob has made a PDF guide for listeners. It is totally free to download from his website as a secret link: www.mayfieldmagic.com/gift
What would an appearance with Jacob Mayfield be without a contest? Jacob currently hosts an hour-long class called “Palmistry 101” with the event app Fever. The event is a Zoom webinar and can be enjoyed anywhere. Price of entry is per device and we are giving out 2 tickets.
How to enter: Follow Mayfield on instagram @MayfieldMagic, and find the photo for this episode. Follow Mayfield, like the episode photo, and comment with which form of divination was your favorite from the episode and why. Winners will be selected January 8th, 2021.

Has Houdini ever been contacted with a séance? Pat and Rebecca are celebrating October with a month of spooky episodes on seances and talking to the dead. Houdini seances have been an annual event on Halloween since his death in 1926. Special Guest Jacob Mayfield, mind reader, mentalist, and psychic entertainer from Chicago, will be recreating this spectacular event this year and he’s here to talk about the history of Harry Houdini and his séance. Pat and Rebecca then debate whether Houdini has ever appeared. What do you think?
Who is Harry Houdini? How did he become a magician? What happened to Houdini? What were his most famous tricks? Who is Bess? What made Houdini a skeptic? Why did he and Bess make a pack to contact each other in the afterlife? What is the Houdini séance? What are some of the most famous Houdini séances? Has a Houdini séance ever worked?
