GETTIN' SALTY EXPERIENCE PODCAST Ep.162- Our special guest will be 92 year old and 36 year FDNY Capt. Mike Laffey. Appointed to the FDNY in April of 1956 out of Proby school he was assigned to Engine 48 after spending 2 years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Transferred to L.105 in downtown Brooklyn……12/16/1960 the plane crash over Staten Island sent United airplane spiraling over Brooking landing into the street 2 short blocks from the firehouse. Bodies spread all over the crash site. He worked for 3 days at the crash site. Total of 128 people lost their lives. Three days later on 12/19/1960 he worked at the USS Constellation aircraft carrier claiming the lives of 50 civilian workers and injuries to over 300 workers. he was Promoted to LT and assigned to Ladder 2 in 1964 and then to Capt and assigned to Ladder 17 in 1972. Seven brothers lost their life over his 20 years there, but the full ramifications of the War Years hit the firehouse in 1974 when 3 of the brothers lost their lives within 4 months; June to October……. F/F’s Harry Hoey L.17, Johnnie Williams and Russ Linneball of L.17-2. He has seen 10 lifetimes worth of action!

GETTIN' SALTY EXPERIENCE PODCAST Ep.161 Our special guest will be Anthony Greco. Anthony, a professional hockey player, is the son of Paul Greco, an FDNY firefighter for more than 20 years working in Eng275, Sq18 and Sq270. He passed away at 54 in May of 2020 after battling several illnesses that resulted from breathing toxic air at Ground Zero following the World Trade Center. Along with being dedicated to his career, Paul was also a longtime fan of the New York Rangers and was naturally invested in his son’s hockey career. After years of driving him to games and practices, Paul moved his family to Minnesota so Anthony could attend Shattuck St. Mary’s — a boarding high school that proclaims itself the “Hockey Center of Excellence.” Anthony, who became the first Queens native to ever play for the NY Rangers, signed in New York after he played in the AHL within the Panthers, Lightning and Sharks organizations. GETTIN' SALTY EXPERIENCE PODCAST Ep.160 Our special guest will be 38 year veteran FDNY Capt. Tom Gardner. He got on FDNY in 1984 and was assigned to Engine 255. In 1989 he transferred to Ladder 157. He was promoted to Lt in 1999. He covered in Div 6 and then Div 15 until getting the spot in Ladder 111 in 2002. He was promoted to capt in Nov 2004 and was assigned to Div 3. In 2005 took a detail to BOT. After a year he transferred back to Div 15 in Brooklyn. In 2009 he was assigned to Ladder 113. In 2014 he was detailed to SOC (Special Operations) and in 2018 became the first Capt and charter member of Squad 8 in Staten Island. He finished up his career there until his retirement in July 2022. He was on back in January but He has a little more to talk about😉😎. You don’t want to miss this one. GETTIN' SALTY EXPERIENCE PODCAST Ep.159- Our special guest will be 37 year FDNY Staff Chief Mathew Farrell. Appointed to the NYPD in October of 1952 He realized he needed to come over to the Right Side and got assigned to the FDNY in February of 1957. Out of Proby school he was assigned to Engine 233 in The Borough of FIRE! In ‘61 he’s was promoted to LT, ‘66 to Captain, ‘69 to BC where he would serve all still in The Borough Of FIRE! In March of ‘76 he would be promoted to Deputy Chief where he would leave the borough of Fire to go to The BIG CITY being assigned to Division 1 in Manhattan! In ‘78 he was promoted to Deputy Assistant Chief, in ‘80 he was Promoted to Assistant Chief Of Department and in ‘82 He was Assigned back to The Borough Of Fire as the Brooklyn Borough Commander where he would stay until his retirement in 1989. From walking the Beats on the streets to Crawling the Smoke filled halls the chief had plenty of opportunity to see 10 lifetimes worth of action! Appointed to the Portland Fire Department as a firefighter November 16, 1975.. During his 30 year career, he was assigned to the following companies... Engine 3 Engine 4 (8 years) Engine 5 Engine 6 Engine 7 – Fireboat Ladder 6 Engine 13 (single man coverage at Great Diamond Island – 4 shifts) Rescue 1 (13 years) Appointed as PFD Safety Officer Detailed to Training Division and Fire Academy Air Rescue Company He retired in Engine 9 in 2006. He was State Instructor for Maine Fire Training(20 years) and Fire Brigade Training at Maine Yankee Nuclear Power Plant (9 years). He was appointed in Oct of 1962 and upon graduating proby school he was assigned to H&L 18. In Dec of ’73 he transferred to Engine 17. In Jan 1974 he was promoted to Lt. and assigned to Ladder 26-2 in Apr 1974. The company was disbanded in Dec 1974 and he was assigned to Ladder 27 in May 1975. In Nov 1982 he was promoted to Captain, and in June 1985 he was assigned to Rescue 4. he retired in March 1991. I'm pretty sure he hasn't seen any fire. He was appointed in April of 1991 and upon graduating proby school he was assigned to 324 Engine. In September of ’94 he transferred to Engine 47. In 1998 The Chief became a Charter Member of Squad 18. He was promoted to Lt. in 2001 and by March of 2002 he was back at Da Squad! In March of 2003 he was promoted to Captain, 2005 Made Battalion, 2011 Deputy, 2017 Deputy Assistant Chief, 2020 Assistant Chief, and in July of 2022 He was promoted to Chief Of Operations. Our special guest is 20 year FDNY veteran FF Eddie Anzalone. He went to proby school in 1987 and was assigned to Engine 221 in Brooklyn. In 1991 he transferred to Engine 69 up in Harlem. He transferred across the floor to 28 Truck in 1998. He retired in 2007. Known as Fireman Ed, he is a well known fan of the New York Jets. One of the most well-known National Football League fans, he is known for leading the crowd in the team chant, "J-E-T-S, Jets!, Jets!, Jets! He has also just started Fireman Ed's NYJF Lager Beer.
