Summary: in this episode Sujai and Vivek discuss the ways that praise can uplift our children or create a dependency on approval.

We also give a detailed explanation of how to reconnect with our kids when we yell, punish, threatened or are harsh with them in other ways. Unfortunately these things can create a disconnection and damage trust. We want our kids to trust us therefore having a conscious and deliberate way of reconnecting can be really useful.

Gentle Parents Unite Podcast S04E02 - The Importance of Relationship- Interrupted Empathy, Autonomy, Apology

Summary: Sujai and Vivek discuss the benefits of focusing on our person to person relationship with our children. Often we get caught up in the tasks of daily life. Keeping them fed, clothed, schooled, clean and safe. We can forget that what we're doing is creating relational patterns that will last a lifetime.

We also discuss how to deepen our practice of Empathy, Autonomy and Apology and how we interrupt these things. I call it "Empathy But... Autonomy But... and Apology But..."

Season 3, Bonus Episode #1: Parenting Meditation: Where do my thoughts come from? Apr 28, 2020
    Show notes

Season 3, Bonus Episode #1: Parenting Meditation: Where do my thoughts come from?

In our Patreon parent support space (hosted by Sujai Johnson and Vivek Patel) we lead a weekly guided meditation for parents. Today's episode is a recording of a recent meditation called "Where do my thoughts come from?" It is based on the process of looking at our thoughts and asking them 2 questions:

    "Where do you come from?"
"What message do you have for me?"

We start with a guided relaxation and then move into our thought exploration.

I love doing these weekly Meditations with our members.
It's a chance for us to slow down and tune in together.
Something extra valuable in these times.

You can follow along with the guided meditation to get an idea of what we do in our member's parenting support space. We encourage parents to participate in these meditations even if you have your kids crawling all over you. Many of our parents do and they still receive profound benefit.

Meditation doesn't always have to be in stillness and silence. It can integrate into our every day lives.
Our awareness is always with us, no matter how busy we get :)

Season 4 will be launching in two weeks!

Season 3, Episode 10: Interview with Bridgett Miller, Author of the new book "What Young Children Need You to Know" Apr 06, 2020
    Show notes

In this week's episode we interview the wonderful, loving and wise Bridgett Miller. She is the author of the new book "What Young Children Need You to Know: How to see them so you know what to do for them". I've read the book and it blew me away. As I said in the testimonial I wrote for the beginning of the book "If there was a manual for parents, this would be it".

    From Bridgett's website:

"Bridgett believes that joyful parenting is a journey of both the head and the heart and her emphasis is on supporting parents to bring their childrearing practices into alignment with their heartfelt intentions. By expanding on their current understanding of child development she supports parents to be more mindful about their parenting choices and guides them to become more conscious in their everyday interactions with their children."
