    iPhone Xs and Xs Max

    In this episode:

    • We both got new phones in the same week so we need to talk about them. Void hadn't upgraded his phone in 4 and a half years, so it was definitely time! Beej, on the other hand, likes new shinies and technology and upgrades pretty often.
    • Beej and his wife got new phones, too, just like Void and his wife did. Which phones they got were swapped, too. Weird.
    • While this is a discussion on new phones and technology, we talk about the differences in current mobile operating systems, Android vs iOS, and even why we are drawn to certain kinds of devices.
    • It's interesting to see the features that draw us both to the same kinds of phones because they're pretty different in terms of use, but we also overlap in them adding to the overall whole of the device.

    S3E40 - The Geekery Awakens - "The show is non-stop" Oct 11, 2018
    Show notes

    The Geekery Awakens

    In this episode:

    • This week was all about the Geekery Catch-Up. Since Beej went out of the country a few weeks ago, we had to record two episodes the week before, and he had internet issues the week after. So there was a good amount of time there for geekery to accumulate.
    • We wanted to do one, big episode about it because not only was there so much of it, but we had so much to say about it. From books and audiobooks and video games and movies and Halloween cooking shows and gacha games, Nintendo games...we have a ton to talk about.
    • We even go on some tangents (MoviePass! *shakes fist angrily in the air*, the future of the Netflix MCU: thoughts?)
    • All in all, it's a great episode full of cool stuff.
    • Oh, and by the way, we need questions for our semi-annual Q&A episode, so if you have a question of any sort, tweet at us, email us, throw it toward us on Slack, Discord, or Reddit...wherever. We wanna answer what you want to ask!

    Geek Offer of the Week

    Weekly Geekery

    • BJ watched A Star Is Born, is listening to the Crazy Rich Asians audiobook, finished Thrawn and started Thrawn Alliance, is still playing Spider-Man on PS4, started Luke Cage Season 2 and Iron Fist Season 2, resubscribed to Marvel Unlimited, and is watching Halloween Wars and Baking Championship.
    • Void saw (and loved) Hamilton, read Hamilton The Revolution, voted via mail, resubscribed to Gamefly, watched The Dragon Prince Season 1, played Super Mario Party, tried Magic The Gathering Arena, and is playing a ton of Dragalia Lost.

    S3E39 - International Travel Happytime! - "2-meter paella pan" Oct 04, 2018
    Show notes

    Overseas Travel

    In this episode:

    • This week we discuss Beej's recent trip to Barcelona and some of Void's past travels.
    • We talk about how traveling internationally makes us think about all of the stuff we take for granted in our own lives. Such as having so much space in America, Beej living beside cows, Void being able to visit Canada easily, and much more.
    • Being able to travel internationally is great to be able to have discussions with people from different cultures and backgrounds, which helps us learn and expand the context in which we live our lives.
    • Beej wasn't aware of the delicate political balance in Barcelona right now.
    • Void wants to travel more, but needs to wait until his kids are older.
    • There is also a discussion about how when you travel, it's easy to figure out where you belong and whether you want to live elsewhere. For Void, travel appeals a lot, but he doesn't want to live anywhere and raise a family other than MN. For Beej, he's open to the possibility, but it will definitely not be Barcelona.

    • BJ's internet broke!
    • Void's is still functional.

    S3E37 - Tabletop RPGs - "Imagination Adventure Calvinball" Sep 20, 2018
    Show notes

    Tabletop RPGs

    In this episode:

    • This week we discuss where we currently stand with tabletop RPGs. Beej got a recent chance to start up a regular group again and accidentally fell into the GM role. Void is super interested in the possibilities of tabletop gaming and has tried some home brew options.

    Weekly Geekery

    • BJ cancelled WoW but picked up SWTOR again and dove deep into other Star Wars stuff like Galaxy of Heroes, the Order 66 Podcast, Legends of the Galaxy, the Rebels sourcebook, and the Ahsoka novel.
    • Void is probably still obsessed with Spider-Man, although it's impossible to know with this time-shifted episode. He also watched some WWII movies, Oceans 8, got around to trying the Megaman 11 demo, and finally got his hands on the early access version of the Lord of the Rings Living Card Game (or LotR LCG if you prefer).

    S3E36 - Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4 - "Thwip Thwip" Sep 13, 2018
    Show notes

    Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4

Instead of typical show notes, here are the lyrics to the Spider-Man theme song from the '60s and a link to the song itself. That's better than anything we could have come up with ourselves. You're welcome.

Spider-Man, Spider-Man Does whatever a spider can Spins a web any size Catches thieves just like flies Look out, here comes the Spider-Man

Is he strong? Listen Bud He's got radioactive blood Can he swing from a thread ? Take a look overhead Hey, there! There goes the Spider-Man

In the chill of the night At the scene of a crime Like a streak of light He arrives just in time

Spider-Man, Spider-Man Friendly neighborhood, Spider-Man Wealth and fame, he ignores Action is his reward Look out, here comes the Spider-Man

Spider-Man, Spider-Man Friendly neighborhood, Spider-Man Wealth and fame, he ignores Action is his reward To him, life's a great big bang up Whenever there's a hang up You'll find the Spider-Man!

S3E34 - What's an Evergreen game? - "In the woods with worms" Aug 30, 2018
    Show notes

    Evergreen Games in 2018

    In this episode:

    • This week we discuss the current state of evergreen games and how they relate to games we replay. What makes a game evergreen compared to one that you revisit?
    • The difference comes in pretty similarly for both of us. We tend to look at evergreen games in a way that doesn't have a definite end, but even still, there are games that we approach over and over again for finite content packs that we consider evergreen.
    • There are different genres that we feel fit the evergreen mold more than others (FPS games and CCG games, for instance, over JRPGs or action-adventure.) But we somehow manage to find exceptions there that make us incredibly happy.
    • And there are movies and tv shows like this, too! At least for BJ. He gets emotionally attached to characters and stories in a way Void doesn't, and we discuss how that affects what we watch and consider familiar and comfortable.

    Weekly Geekery

    • BJ is still playing WoW but also squeezed in a vacation weekend in the woods with glow worms! He's also prepping to get back into tabletop RPGs with Star Wars: Edge of the Empire!
    • Void listened to the backlog of Masters of Scale, is getting close to giving up on his phone because he can't play Legend of Soulguard without it crashing, and had some fun at the arcade with the giant claw machine.

    S3E33 - Personality Tests - "I am very good at doody" Aug 23, 2018
    Show notes

    Personality Tests

    In this episode:

    • We dive into personality tests because Void geeks out about them!
    • From the early days of DISC tests to the ever-popular Meyers-Briggs, we discuss how each of these tests work and why we find them fascinating.
    • But what good are personality tests? Aside from allowing you to do a lot of navel-gazing, you can use personality tests to hold a mirror up to yourself and actually find actionable points that can improve your personal life. It's happened to both of us, so it can happen for you, too!
    • One of the points that Void brings up is that he differentiates between the science-based tests and those that aren't.
    • We talk about the results we each get and how they may have changed over the years. And that you can't just go by what each test titles the results. Beej is an Individualist in the Enneagram, but that doesn't mean he's selfish. Void has high Intellection on StrengthsFinder, but that doesn't mean he's a stuffy academic type.
    • Beej is an ENFJ, and Void is an INTJ. We are totally opposites, but also complimentary.

    Weekly Geekery:

    • Beej is still playing WoW and also loved Crazy Rich Asians.
    • Void is consuming World War I media like Our World War, Guns of August, and Blueprint for Armageddon.
