How do Native Nations see themselves in the Old Testament? In this week’s Come, Follow Me lesson covering the spirit of "A Marvellous Work and a Wonder," hosts Chuck Kaye and Rachel Crouse sit down with Hebrew Bible scholar and content expert Dr. Anthony Rivera to uncover profound Indigenous connections hidden within the Book of Isaiah.
Putting on "Native glasses," the team uncovers three stunning parallels between ancient Israelite prophecy and Native American history and culture:
The Israelite Exile & The Trail of Tears:
How the forced removal of tribes from their homelands mirrors the Indian Removal Act of 1830—occurring the exact same year the LDS Church was restored.
The Suffering Servant & The Sundance Ceremony:
A breathtaking look at Isaiah 53's prophecy of the Messiah through the lens of the sacred Plains Sundance—where piercing the body is an ultimate offering of healing and love for the people.
The Creator, The Land, & Peace:
Unpacking the deep-rooted stewardship of sacred spaces, ancestral lands, and songs of rejoicing. Plus, stick around for a very special announcement regarding the upcoming "Gathering of Tribes
Day" at the Salt Lake Temple Open House on April 2, 2027!
How does the Hebrew Bible connect directly to Indian Country? Join hosts Chuck Kaye and Rachel Crouse, along with Acjachemen scholar and Hebrew Bible expert Brother Anthony Rivera, as they dive deep into this week’s Come, Follow Me lesson covering Isaiah 40–49.
In this episode, we explore the deeply moving command to "Comfort Ye My People". Anthony unpacks the roles of Jehovah as Creator, Savior, and Good Shepherd, revealing powerful parallels between ancient Israelite covenants and Indigenous perspectives on the elements, the desert, and sacred reflection. Discover why Isaiah isn’t just writing about the ancient past—he is writing directly for our day.
