    104 - Sophie - "I'm dipping into the FIRE movement." Mar 12, 2021
    Show notes

In episode 104 of Future Rich, Certified Financial Planner Barbara Ginty interviews 26-year-old, Sophie who seems to have all of her financial ducks in a row! Sophie lives in Los Angeles, California, with her partner and works as a product researcher for an educational tech company. She has been super busy since 2020 and just got a promotion. Her expenses aren't too bad, but she has to tackle a bit of, you guessed it, student loan debt. Sophie is also interested in dipping her toes into the F.I.R.E. movement. What Is the F.I.R.E. movement exactly? F.I.R.E. stands for “Financial Independence, Retire Early.” It is a lifestyle movement to save and invest aggressively—somewhere between 50–75% of your income—so you can retire sometime in your 30s or 40s (who doesn't want that?!). In this episode, Barbara helps Sophie come up with a concrete plan to pay off her student loans and also offers suggestions for her to get into the F.I.R.E. movement early. 103 - Lu - "You can't afford to buy orange juice!" Mar 05, 2021
    Show notes

It all started one night with pizza, wine, and chats about credit card debt... In episode 103 of Future Rich, Certified Financial Planner Barbara Ginty interviews her longtime friend, Lu, who actually helped Barbara transition to working full-time in personal finance way before the podcast even existed! Lu lives in Western, NY (not upstate! there's a difference!) and works as an administrator in higher education. In the past, Barbara helped Lu tackle her intense credit card debt. Since then, Lu has made budgeting her bestie and hit almost all of her goals; she purchased her first home, received a degree in higher education, and finally has her student loans under control. In this episode, Barbara not only creates a plan for Lu to accumulate MORE money for her emergency fund but also helps her organize the rest of her retirement money in a way that maximizes her savings.
