Ep57 - The word "little" will never be the same again Sep 23, 2022
    Show notes

I'll be honest this is something I say a lot… I realized it when I quickly listened to one of the episode to see if everything was ok. I guess it's a bad French habit that pervaded my English. Tell me if you noticed it! As a consequence, I strongly believe this is a bad habit you should integrate in your French language. Like everybody in my country, I tend to overuse the word "little". It's not really a filler since it conveys different meanings and emotions as well. Today that's what we'll study so that your world becomes smaller and cuter

    In this episode

    • New ways to use the word "little"
    • Speak a more natural and native sounding French

September is finally here and with it, the sadness of waving goodbye to our summer holidays. Work and school have resumed. France now went back to its humdrum daily life.

In this episode we're going to talk about music instruments and we'll have a look at a specific vocabulary related to this.

As for the grammar focus, we will study phrases to express regrets. As a consequence, it's best suited for my B level listeners.

Everything can be found in the study guide : the transcription, the vocabulary and the grammar focus.

    A day in French - 41 - Shopping Sep 09, 2022
    Show notes

Today, we're going to talk about a challenge that everybody is now more or less facing I guess. Please don't hesitate to share your story or opinion if that's the case… and you know what, even if it's not the case, just comment anyway, I'm always glad to read your story.

It's been a couple of years now of international instability and struggles, let's say. Obviously, we're not going to talk about anything depressing, nobody needs that. Today, the vocabulary is for B1 levels and it's all about words and phrases to describe your shopping habits but focused on sales, coupons and saving money. As for the grammar focus, we'll see a few phrases to express goals with the infinitive.

    A day in French - 40 - UFO Feb 20, 2022
    Show notes

I'm not a big fan of French tv shows but recently I found a couple that were funny and captivating.

We're gonna talk about that today. This program is called Ovnis, let me know in the comment section if you know it and if you have watched it.

It follows a group of people who work for the French bureau of unidentified aerospace phenomena. In other words, UFO.

Do you know what the most interesting part of all this is?

It's inspired by a true story, but you'll need to stay tuned if you want to know more.

What are we going to learn today?

In this episode, you'll get to know how to react and whom to contact if you witness something strange in the French sky during your holiday.

As for the grammar focus, we're going to review the simple relative pronouns so it's for you my A level learners.

Today's story was inspired by some program my partner listened to at the radio. Since I talked about weird French events, like the bizarre and let's admit it, quite ghastly Christmas menu we covered in episode 21 of "A day in French", it will not come as a surprise that I cover this strange event.

The grammar focus today will be geared towards A2 and B1. You'll be able to review or learn how to create adverbs.

To get everything, head over to frenchblabla.org to download the study guide where you'll find the transcription, the grammar focus and the vocabulary.

There's also a free audio training waiting for you on the homepage. You'll learn my best tips to sound like a native.

    Ep56 - Don't always say no, say this instead Jan 16, 2022
    Show notes

Happy to be back after my holiday break. It went really too fast. I guess it's always like that when you have a break from work. It's never long enough. That being said, let's not forget that it's 2022 now, so bonne année à tous, je vous souhaite beaucoup de succès avec votre français et surtout la santé. C'est important en ce moment.

As you know, I'm not big on watching sports on tv but my partner is. It's always a source of surprise and learning. He's been really into rugby these past months, mainly because the NHL matches are unwatchable with their commercial breaks every 5 minutes. He noticed a big difference between the way north american commentators talk about matches and the way French commentators do. If you've been following the podcast for some time, you may get where I'm heading with this.

    • Bonus phrases to say "no" in a shop

Today is the last episode of our Christmas story.

Are the old tales true? Will they meet something magical that night? We left when Ayline was running towards the strange voice she heard and that's when this episode starts.

Je te souhaite un très joyeux Noël. Thank you for being with me throughout the month of December and for listening to the Christmas story.

    Une pluie d'étoiles - Episode 05 Dec 21, 2021
    Show notes

Winter is officially here... yet we didn't wait for the 21st of December to put on our jumper and snuggle in our blanket on the couch.

We're not the only ones to feel the cold and wish a little bit it were summer... well, after Christmas is over of course!

    Nope...

I'm sure Ayline, her mum, Yoko, Helmut and all the characters of the Christmas story wish they were somewhere warm drinking a hot cup of tea.

For now, they're still in the train station...

Today is the penultimate chapter of our tale.

Our characters are going to meet a very special person...

They will, for sure, remember it for the rest of their life.

    Une pluie d'étoiles - Episode 03 Dec 10, 2021
    Show notes

This morning when I woke up, the garden was covered with snow.

    But it was already melting...

You know this kind of dangerous weather where it melts and then ices again... you have to be really careful when you walk on the pavement.

For our characters that night, it was just cold... I'm not sure it was snowing.

In this third episode, we meet the last characters of our story.

They are all gathered in this small train station. The night is falling and the last train of the day has already departed.

    They're all alone.
