Andy Furman and Bucky Brooks break down a loaded weekend of football, from Jeremiah Smith’s incredible dominance at Ohio State and the growing Heisman buzz to Notre Dame, Miami and Alabama making their cases as legitimate national championship contenders. The guys turn to the NFL to debate whether Deshaun Watson and the surprising Browns are for real, what’s gone wrong with the Texans, why Kirk Cousins and Brock Bowers have the Raiders rolling, and whether Trevor Lawrence has closed the gap on Joe Burrow. Plus, Ask Bucky and The Blame Game tackle the proposed 24-team College Football Playoff, Aaron Rodgers’ struggles, mounting pressure on Matt LaFleur in Green Bay, the Eagles and Rams searching for answers, and plenty more from a wild weekend of football.

Ben Maller does a belly-whopper into the deep end of the mailbag, where good judgment goes to die. The Wheel of Maller Militia Legends lands on Doc Mike from Chicago and Mike the Leprechaun from the Commonwealth. Doc isn’t a real doctor—he just plays one on the radio and podcasts—but his résumé includes classic Maller bits like "marrying" Spin Cycle Regina in Minnesota, presidential campaigns nobody asked for, brewing Bloody Goat Beer, the beer for losers, and delivering an alarming number of goat heads to the Cubs at Wrigley Field over the years. Perfectly normal behavior.
Mike the Leprechaun, meanwhile, continues his blood feud with Marcel in Brooklyn after helping host iconic Maller Meet & Greets in Boston and Worcester and witnessing Benny’s 99 MPH* opening pitch at the WooSox game. (*Estimated by extremely unreliable sources.)
The fellas chew through podcast sausage, the Ben Maller Show on TV, kayaking around venomous snakes in the Congo Basin, underwater UFOs, homemade urine therapy straight from the tap—because apparently plumbing wasn’t disgusting enough—shady bookkeeping, the slow death of late-night TV and more.
This is where the razzle meets the dazzle, unless it's just another marginal episode of The Fifth Hour.

Mike Harmon reacts to a loaded sports weekend, from Michigan’s struggles, Northwestern’s statement win and the White Sox rolling in October to Week 4 fantasy football, the NFL’s international push, MLB playoff drama and Sophie Cunningham’s criticism of WNBA officiating. He also examines J.J. McCarthy’s move to the Giants, Victor Wembanyama’s stance against betting endorsements, Cleveland’s 3-1 start behind Deshaun Watson, the changing feel of modern stadiums, Jeremiah Smith’s Heisman case, and the biggest NFL storylines heading into Sunday.

Aaron and Jason debate whether Michigan or Penn State is in worse shape after losses by each this week and talk to FSR’s own Dan Beyer about all things Ohio State and whether Jeremiah Smith is the best Ohio State player of the 2000s. Jason has major issues with Amazon Prime hyping up Deshaun Watson as an inspirational story despite his ugly past, even though the Browns may be the NFL’s best story at 3-1. Someone finally stepped up for Caitlin Clark, and Aaron is totally here for that. And another week of “I Don’t Wanna Overreact, But …” where Aaron boldly predicts Bears HC Ben Johnson will one day be in the Hall of Fame.

Martin continues to be disgusted by his Michigan Wolverines after another loss to Minnesota. The guys wonder aloud which 3-0 teams in the NFL are the most surprising and/or most worthy of their undefeated record. The Raiders are playing in the league’s Game of the Week, and Alex can’t get enough. The MLB Playoffs are into the second round, the guys are rooting for anybody but the Dodgers, and the Rays nearly no-hit the Yankees. We make our NFL Picks of the Week, choose our Atomic Dogs and we introduce the first edition of “Who Needs It More?”

There have been great games and great performances in college football this season, but are there any truly elite teams? Buck and Fitz are struggling to find them, especially with Florida getting hammered on Saturday. You want parity in college football? Well, you’ve got it .. The guys have nothing but praise for Deshaun Watson and are excited to watch the NFL Game of the Week involving .. the Raiders??? And we have another episode of “Would You Rather” involving UMass and the proposed 24-team college football playoff.
