Show notes

Maj Fred Galvin is an enlisted Marine infantryman turned infantry officer and reconnaissance Marine that did multiple deployments before taking command of the first MARSOC company deployment after the unit formed. Galvin and his Marines were falsely accused of murdering Afghan civilians during their reaction to a complex ambush that included a suicide car bomb and multiple enemy firing positions. After years of fighting the charges in the military justice system, Galvin and his Marines were found to have acted heroically and utilized precision fires to only take out enemy fighters.

Ep. 082 | Michael Golembesky | MARSOC JTAC and Author Oct 26, 2020

Show notes

SSgt Michael Golembesky was a Marine JTAC who was assigned to the Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC) early on in the unit's infancy and deployed with Marine Special Operations Team (MSOT) 8222 to Bala Murghab, Afghanistan. Golembesky detailed his team's deployment in the 2014 best-selling book, Level Zero Heroes. LZH was the first book to detail a MARSOC element and was followed up with the book Dagger 22.
Prior to becoming a JTAC, Golembesky served his first enlistment as a cannoneer and completed two deployments. In total, he completed five deployments in his eight years in the United States Marine Corps before deciding to return to civilian life. Really great conversation and I look forward to a follow-up interview in the future.

Ep. 081 | Daniel Gordon | Recon Marine, Artillery Officer, Infantry Officer and Intelligence Officer Oct 19, 2020

Show notes

Yes, you read the title correctly. On top of being a Recon Marine, he was an officer with multiple specialties. Gordon has done multiple deployments and in this episode, we focus on his Iraq tour with 2nd Recon Battalion that included the second Battle of Fallujah and the work he did afterward.
We discuss everything ranging from him providing ground-based laser for laser-guided bomb attacks in the city of Fallujah to his team conducting nighttime boat operations to hunt insurgents along the Euphrates. Extremely interesting and informative conversation. I can't wait until we sit down again to finish talking about his unusual career.

We also discuss Vining's time with the Walking Dead (1/9) and what that unit's legacy meant to the Marines that served in it. We also get into the 2011 deployment he and 1st Battalion 9th Marines completed in the Helmand Province district of Nawa.
