How to Be Social and Social: Exploring Sobriety with Alexandra Zauner Ep 175 Apr 29, 2022
    Show notes

Did you know athletes have a higher risk of developing drug and alcohol addiction? Retired athletes especially are more likely to turn to alcohol to cope with their recent loss of identity. I unfortunately am all too familiar with this because that was how I began to process what I went through when swimming ended for me.

Today, I sit down with Alexandra Zauner who herself has gone on a 7.5 year journey of removing alcohol from her life.

    We discuss:

-The benefits of sobriety and how athletes, especially young ones, can begin to be more sober curious in their journey of learning to find who they are.

-How to make friends without drinking

-What to do on the weekends

-How to date without alcohol being the main connector

Today’s podcast guest, CJ Finley, has made me feel like I belong from the moment I met him in Austin, Texas. And today, we dive into where that comes from, how he is able to cultivate such a strong community in a world where connection seems to be getting harder and harder, and ways you can do the same.

CJ and I’s friendship is a testament of how social media is a great tool if you choose to be social on it. Him and I connected nearly two years ago simply through Instagram DMs. Today’s podcast is a special one as we got to record at the Forever Athlete Away Game in Austin Texas, bringing our friendship full circle. It was the first live podcast audience we’ve ever had and an experience like none other.
