The Ramble: Leicester leave it late, business as usual for Arsenal, and Steve Bruce blunts Man City Dec 02, 2019
    Show notes

On reflection this was always going to be a terrible time for Pep Guardiola to enter into the gladiatorial (Sports Direct) arena that is the Brucey Bowl, but to his credit Man City did at least emerge with a point - thanks to Jonjo Shelvey.

Leicester left it late to take advantage, but take advantage they did. Is Jamie Vardy planning another party? Let’s assume yes.

Elsewhere Arsenal’s first performance under Freddie Ljungberg was less than handsome - an insult to the man’s bone structure - sheep dogs make a surprising appearance, Marcus makes a salty Google search suggestion and at one point we just start listing beasts. Get involved.

    The Blizzard: France 2-1 Italy, 2000 Nov 30, 2019
    Show notes

n today’s episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard, we’re joined by Michael Cox - writer for The Athletic and author of both The Mixer and Zonal Marking.

We’re taking a look back at the Euro 2000 final between world champions France and an unfancied Italy side. So unfancied, in fact, that Italian newspaper headlines read “Stay at home, Italy” on the eve of the tournament. But, after beating the Netherlands on penalties in the semi-finals, the Italians went up against a hugely talented France side featuring Zinedine Zidane at the peak of his powers. We discuss the buildup to the game, how football tactics were changing around the turn of the millennium and some unflustered coolness from Robert Pires.

    Show notes

It’s Friday! Football tomorrow! Yes! We look ahead to some of it, as is tradition, casting glances towards Chelsea taking on West Ham, Everton probably getting banged by Jamie “I hate the gym” Vardy and Leicester City, while Pep Guardiola takes his Man City team up to the Brucey Bowl to try and win a battle of managerial wits at Newcastle.

David Moyes makes an appearance - it’s that time of year after all - while Keisuke Honda makes an interesting career decision and Watford decide to keep their inexplicable elk badge after all.

Jules & Andy: Managers under pressure, the state of the title race, and Spurs and Arsenal's European hopes Nov 26, 2019
    Show notes

On today’s episode of Jules & Andy, we’re taking a look at the distress signals being set off from various sinking ships across the Premier League. Marco Silva might not survive Everton’s intimidating run of fixtures, and we debate whether Quique Sánchez Flores is under pressure at Watford after just nine games. How long will they survive?

We then move on to the nine point gap Manchester City will need to make up against Liverpool, and ask whether they are still fighting for this title. Plus, ahead of our respective trips to European football in the capital this week, we ask how far Tottenham and Arsenal can expect to go in their European campaigns.

The Ramble: Jose Mourino’s first win, Arsenal’s latest rubbish, and Sheffield United’s rollercoaster Nov 25, 2019
    Show notes

There’s pressure on managers throughout the Premier League this week, with disgruntled glances being shot in the directions of Unai Emery, Manuel Pellegrini and Marco Silva- though Jose Mourinho enjoyed a winning start, even if we shouldn’t make it all about him.

It’s not all gloom in the Premier League though, with Liverpool, Man City and Sheffield United continuing to strut their stuff… Stuffs? No, stuff.

Elsewhere, Pete is recruiting for what sounds like a worrying project, there’s yet more juice from Rafa Benitez’s time at Newcastle and there are Steves as far as the eye can see.
