Show notes

In the first of our five official themed Pat Riley press conference episodes, Ethan Skolnick and Greg Sylvander evaluate what the Miami Heat president is clearly grappling with:

Treat the Heat like a Finals team and make an offseason strike?

Or preserve the 2021 salary cap space at all costs?

Miami Heat: Pat Riley's Laker Comments Twisted by Media Oct 25, 2020

Show notes

It was a strange Sunday, as Pat Riley's innocuous comments about the NBA Finals -- in which the Miami Heat president gave great credit to the champion Los Angeles Lakers -- were taken out of context by media outlets big and small on social media to create a fake controversy.

Ethan Skolnick and Greg Sylvander take listeners through the process of how this happens in the modern media age, and explain what Riley really said, and meant.

Our 5-part series on the Riley press conference starts in earnest in our next episode.

The Miami Heat's 2019-20 Forever Bubble Season Oct 21, 2020

Show notes

It didn't end in an NBA title but, by most Miami Heat fans, 2019-20 will never be forgotten.

Few seasons in local sports history have had the impact on the community that this one did, even though no one could watch the playoffs in person.

Ethan Skolnick and Alphonse Sidney put the Bubble season in perspective, through the eyes of listeners and Twitter followers, and the response to one @5ReasonsSports tweet: "For many, the Miami Heat were about the only good thing about 2020."

Miami Heat: Does DeMar DeRozan fit? Oct 20, 2020

Show notes

You'd think that a former All-Star, who just had one of his best statistical seasons, would be appealing to Miami Heat fans. But many don't think he's a fit, if the San Antonio Spurs decide to move him this offseason.

Ethan Skolnick, Greg Sylvander and Nekias Duncan (of BasketballNews.com) discuss whether this is a reasonable option in a trade, what it would take, and how he would work with Jimmy Butler and others on the Heat.

Miami Heat offseason: A J-Rich reunion? Oct 19, 2020

Show notes

Miami has an eye on new whales in 2021, but could it bring in an old face sooner?

Josh Richardson didn't love his Philadelphia experience, and the 76ers may be looking to move money. Richardson wasn't ideal as a first option for the Heat, but as a third or fourth or fifth who can defend guards, a real team weakness?

Ethan Skolnick, Alex Toledo and Nekias Duncan (BasketballNews.com) discuss the idea from all sides -- and make some other suggestions of defensive guards who could come cheaper.

Miami Heat: Giannis, Bam, Contention Timeline Oct 15, 2020

Show notes

As the NBA still decides on its offseason transaction schedule, Ethan, Alf and Greg discuss one of the key things to watch:

Does Bam Adebayo ask to sign an extension now?

If so, that has ramifications on the pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Should the Heat budge if so? How does Giannis' agent come into play? And, in general, should the Heat act like a team that just reached the NBA Finals, or is earlier in its process?

Miami Heat: Does Victor Oladipo make sense? Oct 14, 2020

Show notes

As attention turns to the Miami Heat offseason, one possible, attainable target is Victor Oladipo, who doesn't seem happy with the Indiana Pacers.

Does he make sense as a one-year option for the Heat? Is he totally healthy? What should the Heat give up? What should they hold back?

Ethan and Alex discuss.
