PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS Pure Vitamin Club Pure Coffee Club KEEPING ON GOOD WEIGHT Nick has been a Type 1 diabetic for over 20 years Grew up eating a diet that resembled NSNG Actually at a point where he tries to gain weight When he eats sugar and grains, he loses weight He needs to increase his fats Avocado, eggs Increase protein and workouts He has to balance protein intake before during and after workout to make it have an effect Insulin pump has to go into fat areas He has trouble finding them - sometimes has to give his body a break Prefers pump over injections Put on three or four lasting pounds in a couple of weeks Increase in protein made a big difference Still feeling a bit fatigued -- likely should up fats a little, may get better when more fat-adapted Even though he's always trim, he feels the difference when he's being healthy or not Does not drink alcohol - makes him feel awful as a diabetic when he drinks It's tough to be a diabetic You can indulge, but a treat is a treat, not a staple Must have good willpower

PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS Pure Vitamin Club Pure Coffee Club Thrive Market Villa Cappelli Crowd Cow DIET OVERCOMING MEDICATION DEPENDENCE Mikhaila Peterson is 26 From Canada! Her father is Jordan Peterson Previously was interested in what medicines could make her feel better Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at 7 She got injections for this, suffered great pains and issues Had multiple joints replaced by 17 STILL, no doctor mentioned diet as a treatment Severe depression at 12 Awful chronic fatigue Looking at medications to hide the symptoms of this Messed up that the way to keep kids calm / under control is by drugging them Slept 17-18 hours a day at one time in her life Took adderall Was totally commonplace to take this drug Doesn't make you productive, necessarily, but it makes you feel productive Changed her diet at 23 Went REALLY low carb Initially went rice, veggies, and meat and felt much better Eventually got rid of rice and lots of veggies because they weren't making her feel THAT much better Had to leave University because she ate crap and felt awful which partly drove her to change her diet Her diet change helped her medical conditions, including skin rash, depression, arthritis, fatigue, etc. Reintroduced candy and soy but her autoimmune system freaked out, and she had horrible flare-ups Kept cutting foods out that she reacted to Got off anti-depressants and other Ended up with basically auto-immune Mostly meats and limited vegetables Now, Mikhaila just eats meat and salt! Started with chicken, but cut it out eventually Arthritis cleared up, mood got better, itching went away Ideally, she eats a ribeye in the morning and a ribeye at night Ate 2.5 lbs when breastfeeding, now about 1.5 lbs

NEVER eat something sweet and carby when you drive because it will make you sleepy The fact that he was fat adapted helped him get through the drive Coffee and nuts are his staples while driving Macadamia nuts were the best Villa Cappelli he also had Vinnie stopped at an Applebees on the way Watched the World Series while he was there Ordered shrimp and steak and broccoli Looked like they had just served gravy Steak covered in gravy Vinnie scraped it off as much as possible and ate it Really not great LOUISIANA The population in Louisiana is very overweight Big difference between LA and the bayou People are so much heavier Vinnie looked around and saw how many unhealthy, even dying, obese people there were It's sad We want things to turn around, but people are getting more and more sick

Age is Just a Number for Athletes - Episode 1177 Oct 27, 2018
    Show notes

: Episode 1177 - Listener and boxer Glenn Barras joins Vinnie from Louisiana to talk about how a low-carb diet allowed Glenn to lose weight and feel better, and the fact that age is just a number for athletes like Glenn and Vinnie. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS Pure Vitamin Club Pure Coffee Club AGE IS JUST A NUMBER From the Baton Rouge area Vinnie could tell by his accent and phone number Former Air Force guy 54 years old and a boxer! Boxing is all adrenaline Age is largely but a number Old does not mean you shouldn't keep doing things like the sports you love Part of why Glenn still does it is because he still can! He has had several consults with Vinnie Glenn wants to stay active and inspire others to stay active Keep the weight off and what you can do is pretty limitless Many of Vinnie's high school and college classmates gained TONS of weight This partly made him exercise more because he didn't want this for him Glenn had a similar experience Gained a lot of weight when he stopped playing rugby Had trouble reaching down to tie his shoes and he hated it Did the 'good' low fat thing and exercise and still gained weight Wasn't eating fat, but his trigs were still up - this did not make sense to him The "conventional wisdom" did not work -- switched over to Low Carb Found NSNG because he was researching Could feel that the low fat wasn't working and was wrong Knew he had to get off the sugar Low carb/NSNG revolutionized Glenn's life Glenn (and Vinnie) had to battle the Southern culture that says they 'live to eat'

ENERGY EXPENDITURE Many people say they can't get off the couch because they have no energy One of the men who spoke to Vinnie recently said before low carb, he had no energy Didn't play actively with his kids Eventually, started going to the gym Now he has lots of energy and always wants to take it to the next step A lot of it is hormones If you are obese and eating lots of carbs your brain still treats you like you're starving because of your diet You need to break this cycle, have your brain feel fulfilled and ready to work Low carb allows for this Fat is the best energy! The high fat part of NSNG is just as important as the low carb The energy change will follow the dietary change You will need to get moving because of all the energy you have!
