Earning Their Stripes: Marlins Prospects from Yelich Trade Making Strong Cases for Call-ups May 28, 2019
    Show notes

It’s an impromptu Christian Yelich trade package special. Danny, Ethan and Ian analyze the hot performances from Triple-A New Orleans Baby Cakes Lewis Brinson, Monte Harrison and Isan Díaz. All three seem destined to join the Marlins active roster later this season (re-joining in Brinson’s case, MLB debuts for Harrison and Díaz). What else do they have left to prove in the minor leagues?

Coincidentally, right-hander Jordan Yamamoto—the “fourth piece” received for Yelich—was already lined up for an exclusive interview (19:52). Finishing off an impressive month of May for Double-A Jacksonville, he describes the collaborative culture in the Marlins organization (27:41) and why he serves as a barber to other minor league players (31:47), shares his unique perspective growing up in Hawaii (37:50) and much more.

    Show notes

The Clinton LumberKings' recent struggles defy the math in our full report on the Marlins Single-A affiliate. First baseman Sean Reynolds talks to us (8:20) about his power, the advanced numbers we've come to know him by, his “bond” with LumberKings manager/former big leaguer Mike Jacobs (15:53), beating the shift (19:12), and what it was like growing into a 6-foot-7 frame (we asked him the basketball question).

Following the Reynolds interview, we highlight the season-to-date stats and performances from several other key LumberKings players (28:30).

Earning Their Stripes: Marlins Poised for Big International Splash May 14, 2019
    Show notes

Danny, Ethan and Ian celebrate the promotions of Harold Ramírez and Elieser Hernandez to the big league club (1:00), note the improved performance from hyped Cuban outfielder Víctor Víctor Mesa (2:20), preview top Marlins targets for the 2019-20 international signing period (6:15), point to encouraging signs in the recent performances from Isan Díaz and José Devers (16:28), and round up the rest of Miami’s farm system in their usual segments (24:19).

Then, Danny and Ethan interview left-hander Trevor Rogers (37:39) about participating in Captain’s Camp, the adversity he overcame as a prospect, the roles that faith and family play in his life, and much more. The former first-round pick has been victimized by a low strand rate and inflated batting average on balls in play, but his peripherals have been great—3.07 FIP since 2018 is third-best in the Marlins organization (min. 100 IP). Rogers in currently in the High-A Jupiter rotation in his age-21 campaign.

    Show notes

Danny, Ethan and Ian offer quick thoughts on The Athletic’s unflattering report about Marlins vice president of player development and scouting Gary Denbo. Then, in their latest roundup of minor league developments, the guys review Sixto Sánchez‘s debut in the Marlins organization and forecast where his 2019 campaign goes from here (3:26), weigh in on why Lewis Brinson was demoted to Triple-A New Orleans (9:46), wonder when red-hot Elieser Hernandez and Harold Ramírez earn call-ups to Miami (20:02), and wrap up with their usual special segments (33:04).
