#119 Surviving Highrise Fires & Thriving in the Fire Service - John Chubb Feb 06, 2022
    Show notes

District Officer John Chubb of Dublin Fire Brigade has been hugely influential in transforming Dublin's response to tall and complex buildings over the last 10 years.
He has traveled to areas such as Canada, France, Germany, Sweden, Poland, the UK, and the USA. Taking lessons from every stop combing those examples of good practices and adopting them into his own service,
He has worked with some of the most influential people in the sector including Paul Grimwood UK, John Norman FDNY, Jerry Tracey FDNY, Michael Reick Germany , Stefan Svenson Sweden, Steve Kerber and many more mainly from Canada.
(sorry for any misspelt names above)
John introduced the novelty pieces of equipment into DFB like smoke curtains, smooth-bore nozzles (branches) for high-rise firefighting, 52mm hose, Denver pack (as opposed to Cleveland roll) hose deployment, and also included hose stretches and management into the trainee initial development courses. He is also a fantastic CFBT instructor, known around the world.

Other achievement of his is being on the panel of experts for one of the UL FSRI (read below if you're not familiar with them) experiments titled "Impact of Fire Attack Utilizing Interior and Exterior Streams on Firefighter Safety and Occupant Survival"

#115 The 2021 Greece Wildfire's Deployment of UKFRS with Dani Scott, Tracy Doyle & Joe Dennehy Jan 09, 2022
    Show notes

The hills in the Athens suburbs of Greece are still lined with rows of burnt trees after fires ripped through the area in August 2021 as they experienced some of the worst wildfires on record.

Forest fires are an annual occurrence in the Mediterranean, but various factors have caused stronger heatwaves and a longer, more intense, annual fire season. On average, 80% of the burned area across Europe occurs in the Mediterranean region, according to the World Wildlife Fund.

This summer was also one of the worst on record. Wildfires tore through the entire region, from Tunisia and Algeria in the south to Spain, Italy and Greece in the north. In southern Turkey and Greece, residents and tourists fled areas ablaze as authorities struggled to deploy firefighting resources to battle the worst affected areas. Various news outlets reported that the fires caused at least 86 deaths.

As part of The UK government response to support these efforts the Home Secretary called upon the skills of UKISAR to support this response and today im speaking with fellow members of UKISAR Dani Scott, Tracy Doyle & Joe Dennehy who were part of that deployment.

    #114 CFBT Non-Negotiable's & Shared Expectations with John McDonough Part 2 of 2 Jan 02, 2022
    Show notes

This is the second part of my conversation with John McDonough who has been a professional firefighter for 34 years with the Fire and Rescue New South Wales in Sydney Australia.
He is currently an operational Duty Commander in charge of 14 stations in the busy inner west zone of Sydney. He was Team Leader of the Fire Operational Training Team (FOTT). This team trains all firefighters and officers in structural fire behavior and firefighting techniques and tactics.
He is extremely passionate about the introduction of modern fire behavior-based firefighting techniques and tactics specifically developed to make the role of firefighters safer and more effective.
Over the last 17 years, this has developed into a standardized doctrine for how firefighters act and behave at the task and tactical level. It is taught at all levels from recruit to Station Officer.
He is a co-author of ‘3D Firefighting – Training, Tactics and Techniques’, which is published in the USA by FPP / IFSTA. In 2009 he was awarded Australia’s highest honor for Fire Officers, the Australian Fire Service Medal for his work in structural firefighting training. He has a Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment and an Advanced Diploma in Management.
In this episode, we talk about the following areas:
