The Watts Street Fire, Manhattan, FDNY - March 28th 1994 - Incident Debrief Dec 24, 2023

Show notes

On March 28, 1994, a landmark fire occurred in Lower Manhattan. This fire was one of the more heart wrenching events in living memory. It led to the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) changing its protective gear. Firefighters would begin being outfitted for “Bunker Gear” starting May 16, 1994. The fire will forever be known in the annals of the FDNY as the “Watts Street Fire”.

#269 Brigadier Chris Murray - Command, Leadership & Lessons from the CORE Dec 16, 2023

Show notes

Brigadier Chris Murray enlisted as a Trooper in the Royal Tank Regiment at Catterick in 1974 before completing a Potential Officers’ Course and subsequent selection for Sandhurst. He was commissioned into the Royal Corps of Transport in 1975 and served all over the world.
He deployed on Gulf War 1 on Operation GRANBY with HQ 1st Armoured Division with particular responsibility for artillery ammunition logistics. On promotion to Colonel in November 1998 he was appointed as Commander Royal Logistic Corps Territorial Army at Grantham. He was awarded the CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2002 for being a thoroughly nice bloke.
He left the Army in 2010 completing a 15 year virtually unbroken period in senior command, 36 years of great fun service with soldiers and an exhausted liver.

She is Chartered Fellow of the CIPD with a Master of Science (MSc) in Human Resources Management/Personnel Administration, University of Lincoln and a PG Cert in Strategic Leadership, Warwick Business School.
She is also Company Secretary / Director of Women in the Fire Service UK & a Public Speaker with a focus on Inclusion, Equity and Diversity in its broadest sense.

#264 Richard Dunbar Dec 04, 2023

Richard currently works as a Vehicle Fire Investigation & Alternative Fuelled Vehicle Incident Response specialist & Managing director of NIMBUS FIRE.

From 1965-1976 he went from a Junior Fireman to Chief Instructor at his the Brigade Training school then transitioned to become a Police sergeant from 1976-1988 "on the beat" before working in the Traffic Division on traffic intelligence unit.
He moved an to become the UK's leading authority on HAZMAT incidents and enforcement. Designed and ran the 'Consultative Officers' course which trained 43 UK Police Forces in HAZMAT enforcement and incident management. Was involved in providing advice to the EU and the British Government.
For19 years he then set up & ran the Fire Service in Dar es Salaam, Arusha and Nairobi - with a small budget and support from the UK FRS.

NIMBUS FIRE Provide effective fire fighting equipment using high pressure water mist including piercing technology for removing the risk of back draught and offering effective fire fighting.
