Ep 96 - Infrastructure, Colin Powell, Boosters and more! Oct 25, 2021
    Show notes

In addition to our weekly numbers report, we recap the vaccine news about all three vaccines being approved for booster shots and that a vaccine from one source can be given as a booster to a patient that had original shots from one of the others.

We will look at the impacts of freedom of choice over Vax and Masks and remind you about the consequences of choice.

Condolences to the family of Former Secretary of State Gen, Colin Powell who died this week at 84 of complications from Covid Breakthrough.

We will weigh in on the Biden Infrastructure battle with Republicans as a pared down bill at $2T is moving through the House. It's another in the never ending games played by both Dems and Reps to see who will blink first

We look at a lawsuit in Illinois over a redistricting plan that did not use the 2020 Census data.

And, could we go a week without talk about the Filibuster in the Senate? Nope.

Ep 95 - COVID Vaccine Updates, Infrastructure and More! Oct 18, 2021
    Show notes

In our weekly Covid review, we speak to the fact that the US is starting to see the effects of vaccinations and safe health practices in the form of reductions in the rates of infection, hospitalization and deaths. We're not anywhere near being out of the woods yet, nut its progress.

In the political arena, one of our frequent subjects, FL Gov Desantis is back in the news as he is being sued over holding 3 Legislative seats, one State and two Congressional, unfilled for more that 75 days. The three districts are all majority Black communities. Surprised???

In Texas, battles are on-going over infrastructure issues such as the electric grid status as we approach winter.

At the federal level, huge battles continue over the two infrastructure bills proposed by the Biden administration. Democrats run the government, and hold most of the blame for not exercising the control they have. No lessons learned from the Obama era and what happened when they lost the house and senate?

The Biden administration is also taking heat for a proposal within the $3.2T Soft Infrastructure bill that would mandate Banks to report all monthly cash flows in and out of individual bank accounts.

Finally, we take a brief look at Polls and how they work as we enter into the political season ahead of the Mid-Terms.

Firedup Ep 94 - Redistricting, Debt Ceiling, and a 3rd Political Party Oct 11, 2021
    Show notes

On this episode of FiredUp, we look at preliminary maps for Redistricting in Michigan and Virginia where non-partisan committees devolved into partisan results.

We explore an alternative approach to growing a 3rd political party involving a coalition of the Asian, Hispanic and Black Caucuses of the House and Senate. If these groups would band together and vote as a unified group, the Democrat and Republican domination of the political agenda could be blunted.

What do we need to do to end the games played around the Debt Ceiling? a hard look at partisan politics and brinksmanship that's hurting America.

And an update on the Texas Abortion ban as court battles start up.

FiredUp - Ep 93 - Redistricting, Employer Mandates, Texas Lawsuits and more Sep 27, 2021
Show notes This week on FiredUp, the discussion will examine Employer mandates for vaccination and employees saying they will quit is required. But do they? Also we will look at two lawsuits filed in Texas against the Doctor who performed a post 6-week abortion intentionally flouting the new Texas ban. The bigger question is who filed the suits? Did you think we were finished with Redistricting? Nope, just getting started. We examine the effects of the shift in population over the decade and how that might shake up the map math. Finally, Steve has an editorial opinion on political games, gridlock and what we must do about it.

Ep 92 - Crisis of Care, COVID Variants, Justice for J6 and More Sep 20, 2021
    Show notes

This week on FiredUP Steve will discuss a story coming out of Idaho that could spell trouble with receiving care for any acute illness. Idaho has implemented a Crisis of Care standing where patients are ranked to receive ICU care and ventilators based on their age, condition and other factors. It means that some might not receive critical care and some will.

We will also uncover additional variants of Covid that could extend the pandemic and may not be fully resolved by the current vaccines.

On the political side, Steve reviews the event held on the 18th, the "Justice for J6" rally in Washington DC and how it fell short of expectations.

What is a Trillion Dollar coin and how do some think it could solve the Debt Ceiling crisis that could hit in mid-October? Steve will explore this radical proposal.

Finally, Steve looks at the coming redistricting plans from Republican and Democrat states and what it means for control of the House.

    Show notes

Today at 5:30pm on WJMS and 1030pm UK on a [Jam Packed] brand new episode of #FiredUp, we will say our public final goodbye to our friend and colleague Tommy Flame. RIP.
We also take a look at #politics post 9/11 - where once there was overwhelming national unity, 20 years have carried us to almost total national disunity and partisanship.
We will clear up a few loose ends from last week's show on the Texas #Abortion Law and dive into the Mississippi case that may just topple Roe vs. Wade and constitutional protections on Abortion.
We ask the questions - What will happen to the children born because #Texas and Mississippi cut the time period from 26 weeks under REoe to 15 or 6 under #Mississippi and Texas respectively.
Finally, we look into a new practice being used by the #LAPD to gather social security numbers, social media account info and other data from anyone they stop and interview, regardless if it is related to a crime or suspicion of a crime.

Ep 90 - Tribute to Tommy Flame, COVID Update, and Texas SB8 Bill Sep 07, 2021
    Show notes

We pay a final tribute to WJMS' own Tommy Flame, co-Host of the We Out Here show and OG host and friend of the station. We miss you Tommy!

Aside from the weekly Covid update, Steve is devoting this show to a discussion of the just passed Texas SB-8 bill which not only imposes severe restrictions on abortion rights in the Lone Star state, but empowers citizens to essentially be deputized to sue providers, as well as those individuals that assist a woman seeking an abortion particularly if it is beyond a so-called "fetal heartbeat" threshold of six weeks.

Steve will be looking at some of the impacts of this bill as well as what it portends for future legislation in Texas and other states on abortion and other constitutionally protected activities.

FiredUp - Ep 89 Choice, Consequences and the Greater Good Aug 30, 2021
    Show notes

This week we will be discussing Choice, Consequences and the Greater Good regarding how the current covid surge is locking up ICU beds all over the country and preventing patients with other illnesses from accessing life saving treatments. We will get into how the choices made by the anti-vax and anti-mask population is we believe selfish and some potential options to address it.

We will be following up on the Sturgis Bike Rally and the 600% increase in Covid cases resulting in South Dakota alone.

We will look at the latest reports coming from the 2020 Census and some impact changes to redistricting that may be coming.

And we will re-visit the 3rd Political Party option and outlook based on voter turnout numbers from the 2020 election.

FiredUp Ep 88 - Pandemic Comparisons, The Silent Majority, the 1776 Unites and more! Aug 23, 2021
    Show notes

This week, we will be discussing the latest Covid news asa always, but we will also be placing our progress through the pandemic against other pandemics over the past 100 years (Smallpox, Polio, Measles, etc) looking at how vaccines and medical treatment eliminated these.

    - We will have a discussion about an old term that is making a comeback. Specifically, "The Silent Majority". Created 1,000 yrs ago, made famous/infamous by Richard Nixon in 1969 now a reference to those who don't register or vote. - Now that the Arizona "audit" is nearly done and the results will not overturn the election, GOP members are starting to criticize the process publicly. - Fox news went after US Reps Talib and Pressley of the Squad for receiving rental income from properties during the CDC eviction moratorium. They failed to mention however that that isn't an illegal or proscribed process. - A new educational curriculum called the 1776 Unites initiative is out to compete against Critical Race Theory. We will look at this new offering and one of its backers.
