Wind on the treetops, Brede High Woods, East Sussex, UK on 19th September 2026 – by Cesar Gimeno Lavin Sep 29, 2026
    Show notes

“The wind came in waves rattling the treetops, the sound was complimented by the birds and a few squirrels running around above me.”

Ionian Sea, Lefkada, Greece on 5th September 2026 – by Tash Walker Sep 09, 2026
    Show notes

“I recorded this in the Ionian Sea, holding a hydrophone just above the rocks where the tide was moving. What comes through is a whole submerged conversation – clicks and crackles, pops and snaps, layered under the slower rhythm of water against stone. Some of those sounds are fish, and barnacles, but most of that crackling is likely snapping shrimp: tiny crustaceans with one oversized claw that snaps shut so fast it forms a bubble in the water, which then collapses and makes the sound. Rachel Carson wrote about this exact phenomenon in The Edge of the Sea, describing it as a “continuous sizzling, crackling sound”, and how the old idea of the sea as a silent place is entirely false. I think about that a lot, and in this audio we can hear the sounds of the living sea. So much is always being said beneath the surface, in frequencies we’ve spent centuries assuming weren’t there. I record the sea because I want to keep listening for what it’s actually saying, rather than what I’ve been taught to expect from silence.”

Dead leaves on the ground in late summer, Bethnal Green, London, UK in 2026 – by Eleanor McDowall Sep 03, 2026
    Show notes

“Since early August, through this summer’s multiple heatwaves, this park has had a thick carpet of dead leaves. Right now you can see the beginnings of a false autumn as full green branches stand side by side with skeletal bare trees, the fallen leaves slowly taken away by the council in large transparent bags.”

Cowbells, Tegernsee, Germany on 11th August 2026 – by Phoebe McIndoe Sep 03, 2026

Sparrows on a patio, Vejer De La Frontera, Spain on 30th July 2026 – by Cesar Gimeno Lavin Aug 31, 2026
    Show notes

“Every evening the sparrows would descend onto this bush that covered the walls of the patio. For the first hour or so they would always make lots of noise, sounded like they were arguing!”

Tawny Owl (probably), Glasgow, Scotland at 4.48am on Monday 17th August 2026 – by Steve Urquhart Aug 17, 2026
    Show notes

“This nocturnal visitor has been right outside our bedroom window these past few mornings, just a couple of miles from Glasgow city centre. At first I wondered if it might be a fox cub. Today I managed to record its call… my bird identification app reckons it’s a Tawny Owl. My friend, who knows about these things, agrees, and says it’s very likely a girl owl, because girls go “too-wit” (more like “ke-wick”) and boys go “hoo-hoo”.”

Restroom drone, Que Sera restaurant in Black Mountain, North Carolina, USA in August 2026 – by Will Coley Aug 16, 2026

Walking through Greenwich Park during the partial eclipse, London, UK, just after 7pm on 12th August 2026 – by Eleanor McDowall Aug 13, 2026
    Show notes

“It felt genuinely moving seeing this park fill with people gathering to see the changing light. Unified by the same stupid Instagram algorithm, the park was awash with people staring intently into colanders, pushing their faces up against cereal packets and old CD jewel cases, or just wearing large boxes on their heads. It might have been my imagination but as the light grew eerily dark, Greenwich’s parakeets seemed to gather noisily too.”
