One of the most influential women in my career and life is Eartha Kitt, who I was lucky enough to develop a brief pen pal relationship with in the early 90s, before she became a household name again with her vocal appearance on Disney's Emperor's new groove.

The late great Eartha Kitt is probably best remembered for her role as the iconic Catwoman in the 1960s TV show Batman as well as for her provocative songs “Santa Baby” and “I Want to Be Evil.”
Everybody wanted to be evil when Eartha Kitt played Catwoman.
Coming from humble origins in South Carolina, Eartha Kitt grew up to tour the world as a young dancer but it was the Broadway show “New Faces of 1952” that catapulted her career into the mainstream.
As a champion of civil rights, Eartha Kitt didn’t hold back when she spoke out against the Vietnam War and that tenacity got her blacklisted in the U.S. for years. Eartha took her show all over the world, and along for the ride, was her daughter Kitt, who Eartha took everywhere.
Joining us today is Kitt Shapiro, who is now dedicating her life to preserving her mother’s legacy by starting Simply Eartha, a lifestyle brand that uses the images, writings and wisdom of Eartha Kitt to inspire both old and new fans.
Eartha once said “The only thing I can sell and still own is my talent.” That and albums, CDs, posters, coasters, canvas wall art, and crystal paperweights.

Shocking news! After years of posting shirtless photos of himself online with other men at circuit parties the former disgraced congressman Aaron Schock came out as gay saying “I am gay, which should come as no surprise.”
You might remember Aaron from back in the day when the internet went gaga over his pool party ensemble- a cute gingham shirt, white shorts and turquoise belt that bent straightness so far it curved back into itself.
Aaron later was forced to resign for using taxpayer money to fund lavish trips and redecorating his office to look like it was something out of Downton Abbey, which he claims he never saw.
Today comedian Matt Brown joins us to look at Aaaron Schock coming out and Elizabeth Warren dropping out of the U.S. Presidential election.

One of the campiest TV shows ever was the 1960s Batman, whose success not only shaped television, but helped propel the careers of broadway stars like Eartha Kitt and Lee Merriweather into superstardom.
In order to capitalize on Batman’s success, ABC television scrambled to put together several pilots of the popular Wonder Woman comic book, until they struck gold with Mexican American model and dancer Lynda Carter whose on-screen charisma and gorgeous looks cemented the show and helped pave the way for today’s blockbuster films and television shows.
Today we take a look at the campy 1970s TV show Wonder Woman, Stanley Ralph Ross Batman’s screenwriter and narrator and, composer Charles’ Fox chart topping theme songs and of course Super Tuesday. You are planning on voting today, right?

The early days of podcasting were extraordinary. Celebrities had no idea what to do with the Internet, and because mainstream representation of LGBTQ folks was slim, the online world saw an eruption of talk shows where people could go in-depth about queer issues for everyone, everywhere.
Before Lizzo preached the gospel of body positivity, before the drag race and trans explosion and even before folks started cashing in on their sex appeal on patronage sites, one of our favorite guests on Feast of Fun was Kennidi Monroe, the Voluptuous Diva who worked the scene producing her own singles and hosting a talk show on trans issues on YouTube with her gal pal Reina Valentino.
Sadly we had a falling out with Kennidi Monroe in 2008 and then she posted a video asking people to cancel Feast Of Fools, one could say she was even a pioneer of cancel culture.

FOF #2830 - The Boys in the Band Spills All The Hot Tea Feb 24, 2020

In the mid 60s New York Times theater and film critic Stanley Kauffman laid down the gauntlet asking the era’s most famous gay playwrights why they wrote plays with heterosexual characters that “distorted American women, marriage, and society” and avoided writing about gay men like themselves.
Hollywood screen writer Mart Crowley responded by writing “The Boys in the Band” a gay dark comedy which featured mostly gay actors playing gay roles in a brutally honest show that laid it all on the line, from their self loating and racism to their love and resilience.
The Tony Award winning play was then turned into a major motion picture released in theaters a year after the Stonewall Riots.
"The Boys in the Band... is not a musical." says the original poster for the 1970 film.
50 years later, the play was brought back to Broadway starring some of your favorite gay Hollywood hunks, and then turned into a film again for Netflix.
Now here in Chicago, the Windy City Theater is taking a whole new look at the legendary play, creating an immersive experience that puts you in the middle of the wild party.
Today— Windy City Playhouse’s The Boys in the Band director Carl Menninger joins us take a look at the play and the film, and its influence on popular culture and queer liberation.
