In a compelling episode of Faithful Politics, hosts Will Wright and Josh Burtram engage in a nuanced conversation with Professor Mohammed Abu-Nimer, a leading authority on peace and conflict resolution. The trio delves into the complex history and current dynamics of the Israel-Palestine conflict, dissecting the role of religious ideologies, international politics, and media narratives. Born as a Palestinian, Abu-Nimer passionately advocates for a two-state solution, where Israel and Palestine coexist with open borders and mutual respect. He urges listeners to critically examine the information they consume, challenging them to look beyond mainstream media outlets like CNN and NBC, and to hold their political representatives accountable for perpetuating one-sided, harmful policies.

Co-host Josh Burtram, coming from an evangelical Christian perspective, adds another layer to the conversation by highlighting the oft-ignored Christian communities in Palestine. He calls on listeners, especially those in the Christian faith, to recognize the suffering of their "brothers and sisters in Christ" in the region. The episode culminates in a collective call to action: for listeners to actively participate in peace-building efforts, whether that's through engaging in dialogue, attending peace activities, or combating hate speech in their own communities. Both hosts and their guest stress the importance of human dignity and equality in resolving the conflict and encourage their diverse audience, ranging from atheists to conservative Christians, to take informed, compassionate stances. This episode serves not just as an educational resource but as a moral imperative for listeners to become part of the solution.

In this episode of Faithful Politics, hosts Will Wright and Pastor Josh Bertram sit down with Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger, who's been serving Virginia's seventh congressional district since 2019. Our conversation journeys through her unique path to politics—starting as a federal employee, transitioning to an undercover role in the CIA, and finally, landing in Congress. We explore the historical significance of her win, breaking a 60-year Democratic drought in her district, and what that implies for her potential third-term victory.

We tackle the ongoing Speaker of the House dilemma, discussing its impact on both her constituents and the nation at large. The episode also delves into bipartisan efforts, focusing on how Democrats and Republicans are collaborating to safeguard Americans and restore trust in Congress. We touch on international topics like aid to Ukraine and its implications for American security. To cap it all off, we get a fascinating peek into Spanberger's past life as an undercover CIA agent, including how her mother was largely in the dark about her covert activities.
This was a really fun interview with the Rep. Spanberger and we think you'll enjoy it as much as we did recording it!
    Guest Bio:
U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger is proud to represent the people of Virginia’s Seventh Congressional District in the U.S. House.

Abigail’s career has been defined by public service. She first swore an oath to the U.S. Constitution as a federal agent with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. In this role, she investigated money laundering and narcotics cases — including at the southern border. Then, as a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) case officer, she worked at home and abroad to collect intelligence, keep our country safe from terrorism, and inform policymakers in their national security decisions. Following her time at CIA, Abigail joined the private sector and helped American colleges and universities diversify their student bodies, expand opportunities for Americans entering the workforce, and increase graduation rates.

In this riveting episode of the Faithful Politics podcast, host Josh Burtram welcomes esteemed guest Professor Christopher Wright to delve into the multifaceted nature of Christian mission. This enriching discussion unfolds the broader scope of mission, transcending the conventional frameworks of evangelization, and explores the profound implications of embodying the teachings of Jesus in daily life and within modern church communities.
The conversation kicks off with an introduction to the concept of holistic mission, where Professor Wright shares invaluable insights from his mission-centric work, setting a robust foundation for the discourse ahead. The dialogue then transitions into the realm of cultural identity and divine purpose, exploring the modern societal norms, the influences of contemporary culture on self-identity and spirituality, and the importance of recognizing a God-given identity amidst the societal clamor.
As they journey further into the essence of mission, Josh and Professor Wright provide practical insights on initiating a missional journey both individually and as a community. They explore the historical backdrop of Apostle Paul's missional strategies in nurturing nascent Christian communities amidst hostile societal settings, emphasizing the importance of understanding and living out the divine narrative in daily life.
The narrative further evolves to unveil how daily life activities can indeed be a ministry, effectively breaking down the traditionally perceived dichotomy between the sacred and the secular. They delve into the significance of individual contributions to the larger mission, drawing inspiration from Martin Luther King's teachings on dignified labor.
In the concluding segments, the discussion encapsulates the essence of finding individual significance within God's grand narrative, even if one perceives their role as a tiny pixel in a vast scheme. Professor Wright eloquently articulates how every act, no matter how minuscule, holds value within God’s overarching plan, emphasizing that none of us are too small to be significant in the divine narrative.
This episode is a treasure trove of insights for anyone looking to broaden their understanding of Christian mission, seeking to find their place in God's grand narrative, or aiming to live a life deeply rooted in divine purpose amidst the modern-day challenges. Through a blend of theological insights, historical references, and practical advice, this episode of Faithful Politics offers a rich, nuanced exploration of living a mission-oriented life in today’s complex world.

"The Billion-Dollar Question & The Future of the Trump Org" w/Diana Florence, Manhattan Prosecutor Sep 30, 2023
    Show notes

Have a comment? Send us a text! (We read all of them but can't reply). Email us: Will@faithfulpoliticspodcast.com

In this special episode, host Will Wright tackles some complex financial questions surrounding Mar-a-Lago, raising concerns about whether tax records corroborate its billion-dollar valuation. Will also dives into the intricate legal aspects of the Trump Tower case, making it digestible for the layperson. He rounds off by probing the core differences between civil and criminal cases, especially when it comes to the parties affected and the laws in question.

Guest Diana Florence brings her expertise to the table by examining the potential consequences of dissolving one of Donald Trump's LLCs. She delves into how this action could alter Trump's business dynamics, making him accountable to new stakeholders. Diana also notes the uniqueness of the case, comparing it to high-profile figures like former Governor Eliot Spitzer. She wraps up by demystifying the legal procedures in civil cases, offering valuable insights into the roles and responses of attorneys from both sides.
    Guest Bio:
Diana Florence began her career as a prosecutor 25 years ago in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, focusing on domestic violence cases, then complex frauds and corruption in the Special Prosecutions Bureau and Labor Racketeering Unit, and later becoming the head of the first of its kind Construction Fraud Task Force. She won landmark convictions against companies and individuals for defrauding 9/11 charities, corruption, domestic violence, wage theft, and deadly work conditions. She has taught trial advocacy for over two decades to lawyers in the DA's Office and has lectured investigators and lawyers from around the world on topics ranging from inter-agency cooperation to prosecuting fraud, racketeering and workplace homicide.

As an ADA, Diana held powerful interests accountable by prosecuting developers and corrupt corporations for cheating workers and taxpayers. In an historic case against Harco Construction, she ultimately secured justice for the family of a 22 year-old construction worker, Carlos Moncayo, who was buried alive at work. Using the existing criminal law, Diana charged the corporations and site supervisors, who had been repeatedly warned of hazardous conditions, with manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide for Moncayo's death. As a result, she drafted legislation (A10728) named after Carlos Moncayo, known as "Carlos' Law" that would establish higher fines for corporations for endangering workers' lives.

Following a visit to Capitol Hill last week, Volodymyr Zelenskyy (President of Ukraine) made one final push to Congress in hopes of preventing Ukraine fatigue. This week, the government is on the verge of a government shutdown, and many members of Congress have made their intentions clear about whether or not they will support more funding as we head into October. To help us sort through all of this we spoke with Dr. Leon Aron, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). He studies Russian domestic and foreign policy, US-Russia relations, and the economic, social, and cultural aspects of Russia’s post-Soviet evolution. We dive deep into the complex web of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the geopolitical factors at play.
We kick things off by discussing the mysterious return of the Wagner Group, a Russian paramilitary organization, to Ukraine. Who's really pulling the strings behind this mercenary group, especially after the death of Yevgeny Prigozhin, a key figure in Putin's invasion strategy? We also delve into the role religion plays in Russia's military actions, examining how the Russian Orthodox Church influences public opinion and policy. And Will wonders how come the Budapest Memorandum isn't making headlines despite Russia's blatant violation of it?

Dr. Aron, who shares his incredible journey from Moscow to the United States and offers a unique perspective on Russian and American politics. Dr. Aron sheds light on the evolving landscape of Russian domestic politics since the fall of the Soviet Union and the key factors driving these changes. We also explore the role of the Russian Orthodox Church in shaping both public opinion and policy in Russia. This episode is packed with insights that will help you understand the intricacies of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Wagner Group's activities in Africa, and why it's crucial for Americans to be informed about Putin's motives as we send aid to Ukraine.

    Guest Bio:
From 2014 to 2020, Dr. Aron was a governor of the Broadcasting Board of Governors, which oversees the operations of several international broadcasting outlets, including Voice of America and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. From 1990 to 2004, he was a panelist on “Looking from America” (Gliadya iz Ameriki), a weekly Voice of America Russian-language radio and television show. Dr. Aron has taught at Georgetown University and was the recipient of the US Institute of Peace’s Peace Fellowship.

Dr. Aron is also a prolific writer and editor, and his books include Roads to the Temple: Memory, Truth, Ideas, and Ideals in the Making of the Russian Revolution, 1987–1991 (Yale University Press, 2012), in which he details and analyzes the intellectual and moral revolution that precipitated the end of the Soviet Union; Russia’s Revolution: Essays 1989–2006 (AEI Press, 2007); and the first in-depth biography of Boris Yeltsin,Yeltsin: A Revolutionary Life (St. Martin’s Press, 2000).
