Overrated Northwestern; Maui and HOF Classic picks; Trump rips LaVar (11.20) Nov 20, 2017
    Show notes

How badly was Northwestern overrated heading into the season? Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander kick off this episode with that question. They also preview the Maui and Hall of Fame tournaments (Parrish provides his first strrrrrraight up! pick of the season). Both brackets tip Monday. And that conversation, of course, turns its attention to Donald Trump's Twitter takedown of LaVar Ball on Sunday. Norlander brings forth a theory from UCLA's angle of all of this, and what Steve Alford must be thinking right now.

    Show notes

Just what's up with Mizzou freshman Michael Porter Jr? He didn't travel with the team to Utah, and there is no timetable for just what's wrong with him. Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander open the podcast with that, then get to the flawed resolution the NBA is reportedly working on to eliminate the one-and-done culture in college basketball. They close by trying to guess what kind of car Kansas freshman Billy Preston was driving and has him waylaid from making his Jayhawks debut.

Recapping an interesting, revealing Champions Classic; UCLA frosh return home from China, thanks to Trump? (11.15) Nov 16, 2017
    Show notes

Gary Parrish is back from Chicago, and he joins Matt Norlander to recap a lot from the Champions Classic. The duo also discusses UCLA's indefinite suspension for LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill. They close with the NCAA doubling back on Braxton Beverly's case at NC State. The NCAA cleared him to play, but what about others who are still waiting?

Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander touch on notable results from Saturday and Sunday, discuss is Mike Krzyzewski and Jim Boeheim will be the only coaches in their lifetimes to win 1,000 games at one school, then preview the Champions Classic -- in addition to two compelling, under-the-radar tilts on Monday.

11/08: Global college hoops catastrophe in China; Collin Sexton's eligibility uncertain at Bama Nov 08, 2017
    Show notes

Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander are now on a thrice-a-week schedule, and the two get at it right away with the crazy -- and scary -- story coming form China regarding LiAngelo Ball and two other UCLA freshmen that were arrested after allegedly shoptlifting at a Louis Vuitton store. When will they be released, and will they fly home with their team? Then, there's the eligibility -- or lack thereof -- of Alabama prized freshman Collin Sexton. Norlander explains what's on the table there, and how Sexton might not ever play for the Tide.

11/07: The story behind the story of the man who turned on Josh Pastner Nov 07, 2017
    Show notes

Gary Parrish's scoop on the man -- and the details -- that led Georgia Tech and coach Josh Pastner to self-report violations that's led to the suspension of two players is the subject of today's podcast. Parrish details how he got the story and lays out why this is an issue for Pastner. Co-host Matt Norlander explains why Pastner's job isn't in jeopardy and why the violations here speak to how we view, write about and talk about NCAA violations to begin with.

11/02: Auburn suspends two players, and now we wait on other schools to follow suit Nov 02, 2017
    Show notes

Auburn has announced indefinite suspensions to two of its four best players. That means a lot for the Tigers -- and for other schools. Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander kick off this episode by discussing that, then go into the latest round of embrassing decisions by the NCAA regarding academic eligibility. The duo also touches on Duke coming in at No. 1 in the AP preseason poll, and why that could backfire, then finish up by discussing Norlander's assertion that Wichita State joining the AAC now means there's a "Major 7" group of power college basketball conferences.

10/25: Joel Berry breaks hand; more FBI theories; breaking down our 1-351 team rankings Oct 25, 2017
    Show notes

Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander touch on plenty in this hour-long episode. They start with Joel Berry's hand injury at UNC. It happened playing video games. And now UNC is going to be a much different team for at least a month. They also discuss Miami coach Jim Larranaga's recent comments about the FBI investigation and offer up their latest thoughts. From there, the guys discuss the roaring success that was the Missouri-Kansas exhibition game, then ask: Why can't these exhibition tours be an annual thing, and why can't Kansas get over itself and play Mizzou every year? Norlander and Parrish wrap the pod by talking for 15 minutes about Norlander's annual ranking of all 351 teams in college basketball. Who's surprisingly high? Who's maybe too low? There's a ton to unwrap.

10/15: The NCAA opts not to punish North Carolina despite decades of academic misconduct Oct 15, 2017
    Show notes

The NCAA opted not to punish North Carolina on Friday. Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander discuss it from every angle. Each minute of this episode of the Eye on College Basketball podcast is dedicated to the North Carolina case. They explain why the NCAA didn't punish UNC even though the NCAA acknowledged student-athletes benefited from fraudulent classes for more than a decade. Parrish asked two reasonable questions: 1. If the NCAA had no case, why did the NCAA ever create a case? 2. Should the NCAA just get out of academics completely?
