A Prayer to be Faithful to God Apr 09, 2024

“Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted, ‘Shadrack, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!’ So Shadrack Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire, and the satraps, prefects, and governors and royal advisers crowded around them. They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; Their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them" (Daniel 3:26-27).

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego spent time with God daily—giving him glory, seeking his face, and openly proclaiming their devotion to him. When the time for the furnace came, those who had seen and heard their witness could not discount the source of their very lives: the Most High God.

A Prayer to Love Jesus Apr 08, 2024

“And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, ‘Which commandment is the most important of all?’ Jesus answered, ‘The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength'" (Mark 12:28-30).

All God has really asked of us is for us to love him with everything we have—heart, body, soul, strength. Everything goes back to that love. It really is as simple as it seems. We are the ones who complicate it.

Most of my life, especially since becoming a mom, I have been in what feels like a constant rotation of busyness, overwhelm, anxiety, and frustration over all there is to do. Marthas, like myself, like to push back against the idea of resting because someone has to do it all. But the truth is that sometimes we need to slow down and sit at Jesus’ feet.

A Prayer to Believe God Saves Apr 03, 2024

“And they went and woke him, saying, ‘Save us, Lord; We are perishing.’ And he said to them, ‘why are you afraid, O you of little faith?’ Then he rose and rebuked to the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm period and the men marveled, saying, ‘What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him'" (Matthew 8:25-27).

I need to remember daily that I cannot save myself. I do not have that authority or power. But thankfully I know the one who does. No matter the storm life throws at me, I can do as Habakkuk did in Habakkuk 3:17-19 and take a position that no matter what storms might come, “I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. God, the Lord, is my strength.”

“This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith" (1 Timothy 1:18-19).

We may not know why bad things happen to us, but it's important to stay true to our faith through it all. We must trust that the Lord has his reasons for allowing things to happen to us. Sometimes, God has a lesson to teach us or to teach others through us. Regardless of his reasons, we can always rest in the knowledge that the Lord is in control.
