Gentle Parenting vs. Parenting with Christ-like Gentleness

It's the same gentleness Jesus showed to the woman at the well and to Zacchaeus — he met them with kindness AND pointed them toward life change.

That's the kind of gentle parenting we actually want. The kind that comes from God's power, not our own exhausted efforts.

And the good news? When we ask God to help us grow in it — that's exactly the kind of prayer he loves to answer.

    Reference: Ephesians 6:4

Prayer: Father, help me not to exempt gentleness from my parenting because of a trendy parenting philosophy. Help me to seek your word to understand what biblical gentleness is and how to bring Christ-like gentleness into the way I parent. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Prayer to Show Gentleness to Others Apr 23, 2026

The religious leaders were ready to throw stones. Jesus bent down and wrote in the dirt. Jesus didn't have to be gentle. But He chose it.

A Prayer to Show Gentleness to Others by Christie Thomas

When they finally walked away, it was just Jesus and the woman — face dirty with dust and tears, waiting for the punishment she thought she deserved.

Instead, he said: "Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more."

And that gentleness? It changes people. Just like it changed her. This week, who in your life needs you to put down the stone and offer grace instead? 🕊️

    Reference: John 2:15-17

Prayer: Jesus, forgive me for the times I’ve thought gentleness meant inaction as well as for the times I bulldozed my way through justice issues without being tempered by Your gentleness. Break my heart for the issues that break Your heart and help me to stand up for the vulnerable with the firm passion that You displayed on earth. In Jesus’s name, amen.

A Prayer for Gentleness in Criticism by Christie Thomas

They trusted themselves to the one who judges justly. In today's episode by Christie Thomas, we're talking about what it looks like to respond to criticism, insults, and rejection with genuine gentleness — and why it might be the most powerful thing you can do. The ending of my phone call story might surprise you.

    Reference: 1 Peter 2:21-23

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for suffering for me and leaving an example so I can follow in Your steps. Please help me to keep my retorts and insults to myself and reshape my mind so I can completely trust myself to You, who judges justly. In Jesus’s name, amen.

When my toddler was terrified by a stranger's dog at the park, I had to be forceful — and it made me think about Jesus flipping tables in the temple.

A Prayer to Understand how Power and Gentleness Relate by Christie ThomasHere's what we miss about that story: Jesus took time to weave the whip before he acted. That's not a man out of control. That's a man who prepared, prayed, and then used exactly as much force as the moment required — no more, no less.Gentleness doesn't mean sitting quietly while injustice happens. This week we're talking about what it looks like to stand up for the vulnerable the way Jesus did.
Reference: John 2:15-17Prayer: Jesus, forgive me for the times I’ve thought gentleness meant inaction as well as for the times I bulldozed my way through justice issues without being tempered by Your gentleness. A Prayer to Practice Gentleness by Christie Thomas

My kids showed me something about myself in the back seat of the car — and it led me straight to Titus 3:1-2.Paul wrote to Christians living under Nero and still said: be gentle. Submit. Slander no one. If they could do it then, what's our excuse now? This week we're talking about how to engage with politics, authority, and people we deeply disagree with — in a way that actually looks like Jesus.

    Reference: Titus 3:1-2

Prayer: God, I confess that I’ve fallen far short of the way You’ve asked me to live. Help me to submit to the rulers and authorities around me, to obey with humility, to be ready for every good work, to avoid slander and fighting, and to be kind and gentle. May I strive to do this through Your strength, which so powerfully works in me. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Practical Tips on Growing in Gentleness with Nicolet Bell + Christie Thomas

In this episode, we’re talking about the real, behind-the-scenes work of becoming a more gentle parent… and a more gentle person. From recognizing our triggers (hello, running late 😅) to inviting God into those heated moments, true gentleness starts with surrender—not control.

✨ Gentleness isn’t about getting the outcome we want
✨ It’s about trusting God with the outcome
✨ It’s about choosing faithfulness over force

When we pause, pray, and invite God into our reactions, everything begins to shift—not always our circumstances, but our hearts.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, reactive, or stretched thin… this conversation is for you.

    Reference: John 15:5

Prayer: Thank you, Father, that gentleness is a fruit of your Spirit. I'm so grateful that you don't ask us to do something that you aren't willing to help us with. We confess our need for your help when it comes to growing in gentleness. We can't do anything apart from you, especially not mothering. We need you. Help us to abide in you today so that we might bear your fruit.

A Prayer to Feel our Burdens Lifted by Christie Thomas

In today's episode, we talk about what Jesus really meant when He said, “Come to me… and I will give you rest.” What if you were never meant to do the heavy lifting on your own? This conversation is a gentle reminder that Jesus doesn’t add to your burdens—He helps carry them. Take a few minutes to listen, breathe, and be reminded: you are not alone in what you’re carrying.

    Reference: Matthew 11:28-30

Prayer: Jesus, you are so gentle but so strong. Thank you for carrying the burden for us and for helping us to live our lives well. As we take a minute to give our burdens to you, thank you that you take them. And I pray that we would feel that you are lifting them. In Jesus' name, amen.

A Prayer to Receive Help from Our Gentle Partner by Christie Thomas

In Matthew 11, Jesus doesn't hand us a yoke and say "get to work." He steps in beside us, already wearing it, and says, "walk with me."When we're weary and burdened, we don't have the bandwidth to be gentle, patient, or present for the people who need us most. But we don't have to white-knuckle it alone. In this episode, we're sitting with Matthew 11:28-30 and exploring what it really looks like to give Jesus your burdens — and let him actually carry them.

    Reference: Matthew 11:28-30

Prayer: Jesus, forgive me for trying to carry all my burdens on my own, instead of letting You help me. I give You the burden of my sin and the other things that weigh me down and I choose to let You help me with these burdens. Thank You for being my Helper and for Your easy and light burden. In Jesus’s name, amen.

A Prayer to Live with Humility by Christie Thomas

According to Jesus, gentleness is actually about trust — being so confident in God's goodness and control that you stop obsessing over your own needs and rights. That changes everything about how we parent, how we work, and how we treat people online. This week's episode by Christie Thomas digs into what Jesus actually meant when he called himself gentle and lowly — and what it looks like for us to live that way too.

    Reference: Matthew 11:29

    Prayer:
Jesus, I praise You because You are gentle and lowly, not obsessing about Yourself or what’s best for You, but considering our interests as even more important than Yours. I confess I don’t usually live like this and often don’t even want to live like this. Please change my heart and help me to trust in Your goodness and control over every situation. In Your name, amen.

A Prayer to Lay Down our Defenses Apr 13, 2026
    Show notes

What would you do with an army of 48,000 angels? In Matthew 26, Jesus had access to exactly that — and he chose not to use it. Not because he was weak, but because he knew something greater was at stake.

A Prayer to Lay Down our Defenses by Christie Thomas

This week's episode digs into the Garden of Gethsemane and what it looks like to hold real power… and lay it down anyway. It's one of the most countercultural things Jesus ever did, and it has everything to say about how we face our own moments of vulnerability.

    Reference: Matthew 26:53

Prayer: Father, help my children to remember that the power of heaven is backing them up, so they can choose to work for reconciliation without fear.
