ENGN Preview Series 16: Perdition's Mouth: Abyssal Rift Nov 10, 2017
    Show notes

Yes, this is a Preview Series episode in the regular ENGN time slot. Due to a scheduling error, we posted the regular episode with Ant Lab Games one week early! We hope you enjoyed hearing from them.

This week, Jason chats with Timo and Tinsku Multamaki, two of the minds behind Perdition's Mouth: Abyssal Rift, a 1-6 player dungeon crawler whose second print run is currently on Kickstarter. We get into some of the unique mechanisms that mitigate a lot of the luck in the game, as well as whether it makes sense for a hero to get smarter by killing rats. Timo and Tinsku were also very excited to share how they've thrown open their doors to backer and other contributors who want to create content for the game. Also, stay tuned after the outro music to hear from a very special guest designer.

ENGN Episode 60 - Games Beyond the Hotness and Ethics in Game Reviews w/ Antlab Games Nov 03, 2017
    Show notes

Anthony and Frances from Ant Lab Games return for more solo gaming discussion! This time, we chat about 'games beyond the hotness' - that is, games that are some of our favorites from the last few years, but which have flown under the radar for various reasons. Afterwards, we chat about the ethics of board game reviewers getting free stuff from publishers. Does it affect our objectivity? What responsibilities do we have to publishers, as well as to the audience?

    Show notes

Yes, folks, we are posting the regular weekly episode early this week! Ryan talks about lots of aspects of Near and Far, including comparisons to Above and Below, the challenge of designing a competitive storytelling game, and how serendipity played a role in the design of the map book. And of course, we talk about solo play! Special thanks to thebrandt, Brandt Sanderson of the Portal Gaming Podcast, for filling in as guest host.

ENGN Episode 58: Manhattan Project: Energy Empire, Anachrony, and Lisboa w/ Antlab Games Oct 27, 2017

Two special guests join us this week to discuss three big heavy games! Anthony is very excited because he gets to talk about the heaviest games he's had at the table for the last few weeks with Anthony and Frances from Antlab Games, who also love the heavier side of the gaming hobby.

Jason steps back (but not out!) as they heavy gamers discuss Manhattan Project: Energy Empire, Anachrony, and Lisboa - both from the general gameplay perspective and how they approach solo play (both successfully and in some cases, less so).

We interrupt our regularly scheduled podcast (sorry, AJ!) in order to bring you coverage of one of the hottest kickstarter projects of the year - 7th Continent.
