Why Being Liked Is Hurting Your Leadership Apr 16, 2025
    Show notes

Have you ever walked out of a meeting thinking, “Why didn’t I just say what I really wanted to say?” Or maybe you took on more work than you should have—just to avoid conflict or to keep the peace? If that sounds familiar… you’re definitely not alone.

In today’s episode of Empower with Nancy, we’re talking about something that so many strong leaders quietly struggle with—the need to be liked. And how that need, without even realizing it, can hold you back from being the bold, respected, and clear leader you’re meant to be.

You’re going to walk away from this episode with clarity, confidence, and a deep breath of relief knowing—you’re not doing it wrong, you’re just ready to grow. I’ll break down the “likability trap,” share real-life stories, and give you three practical ways to lead with strength and vision instead of approval and fear.

I have a simple but powerful challenge for you this week: Have one courageous conversation. Not to create conflict—but to create clarity.

So, grab your favorite drink, take a walk, or settle in—and let’s talk leadership that’s rooted in purpose, not popularity.

What Your Team Really Needs From You Apr 09, 2025
    Show notes

Have you ever felt like you’re being open with your team, but somehow, they still seem unsure—or even guarded? Like no matter how much you share, there’s still a disconnect?"

In today’s episode, we’re exploring something every leader claims to value—but few truly master: transparency. I’ll break down what real, meaningful transparency looks like—not the kind that spills everything out, but the kind that builds solid trust, fuels team connection, and creates a culture where people thrive… even when things get messy.

You'll walk away from this episode feeling clear, confident, and encouraged to show up with more clarity, consistency, and courage. You’ll learn how to communicate more effectively, how to lead through uncertainty, and how to build trust—without burning yourself out trying to “say the right thing” all the time.

This week, I challenge you to pick one area in your leadership where you’ve been holding back… and take one small, honest step forward.

Whether it’s a conversation you’ve been avoiding, a message your team needs to hear, or simply saying “I don’t have all the answers”—try it. Practice leading with openness, and just watch how your team starts showing up differently too.

    With Gratitude,

    Nancy

The Failure You Didn’t See Coming Apr 02, 2025
    Show notes

    Hi there!

Thank you for listening to another EP of Empower with Nancy.

Have you ever put your heart and soul into something, only to watch it fall apart? You planned, you led, you gave it everything you had… and yet, the failure still showed up. It’s frustrating, discouraging, and sometimes downright painful. So what do you do when things don’t go as planned?

Today, we’re talking about something no one really likes to discuss—how to lead through failure. Not around it. Not past it. But right through it, with wisdom, grace, and grit.

If you’re feeling the weight of a setback—whether it’s a business launch that didn’t go as expected, a tough conversation that didn’t land right, or a personal risk that didn’t turn out the way you hoped—this episode is for you.

⇨ A new way to look at failure—one that helps you grow instead of holding you back.

⇨ Real-life lessons from my own experiences with failure (and how I came out stronger).

⇨ Three powerful steps to move forward with confidence and clarity.

✔ Own it. Acknowledge the failure instead of avoiding it.

✔ Lead with transparency. Don’t let shame take over—share what you’ve learned.

✔ Redefine success. Failure isn’t the end; it’s part of the journey forward.

By the end of this episode, you’ll walk away feeling empowered, knowing that failure isn’t a stop sign—it’s a signal that you’re in the arena, doing the work.

    With Gratitude,

    Nancy

In this episode, we're diving into something that so many leaders struggle with: Boundaries. You know that feeling when your to-do list owns you, your team constantly needs something, and you just can't seem to get ahead? Yep, we're tackling that.

By the end of this episode, you'll feel empowered with clear steps to create better boundaries so you can lead with strength without burning yourself out. Here's my gentle challenge for you: After listening, pick one area where you feel drained and ask yourself, "What's one small boundary I can set this week?" The Key To Silence Self-Doubt Mar 06, 2025
    Show notes

Have you ever found yourself lying awake at night, replaying conversations and questioning your choices, wonderingif you're truly capable or deserving of your achievements? This nagging inner voice, known as self-doubt, affects us all at various points in our lives. It can hinder personal growth, strain relationships, and stifle career advancement. But understanding its roots and implementing effective strategies can empower us to overcome this pervasive challenge.

Self-doubt is that persistent feeling of uncertainty regarding one's abilities or decisions. It often stems from past negative experiences, fear of failure, or societal pressures.

These behaviors not only hinder personal and professional growth but also affect mental well-being, leading to anxiety and depression.

    Strategies to Overcome Self-Doubt

Reflect on moments when you experience self-doubt. Is it triggered by specific situations or individuals? Understanding the origin can help in addressing the coreissues.

Break down larger tasks into smaller, manageable steps. Achieving these incremental goals can boost confidence and provide a sense of accomplishment.

Engage with mentors, peers, or trusted individuals who can provide objective insights into your strengths and areas for improvement.

Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding you would offer a friend. Recognize that everyone has flaws and makes mistakes.

Remember, everyone's journey is unique. Comparing yourself to others can lead to unnecessary self-criticism. Focus on your own progress and celebrate your achievements.

Equip yourself with knowledge and skills in areas where you feel less confident.

Build a network of friends, family, or colleagues who uplift and encourage you.

Remember you have control of the wheel!

    With Gratitude,

    Nancy
