    Employee of the Month

We spend most of our time working, so what does it take to (mainly) love what you do? How do even the most gifted, talented, intelligent, ambitious, disciplined, imaginative, inventive, and lucky people develop their point of view, find meaning, serve a greater good, deal with work place politics, rejection, finances, boredom, red tape, logistics, and creative roadblocks? What are the perks or enjoyable about forging your own path? Catie Lazarus and her guests delve into beauty, banality and absurdity of work, jobs, and labor.

ALLISON SILVERMAN on EMPLOYEE of the MONTH May 17, 2013
    Show notes

Hope you enjoy my conversation with super star Allison Silverman from Employee of the Month's live show in Los Angeles at UCB. Allison Silverman has written for The Office, Portlandia, The Colbert Report, where she was also the head writer, as well as The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. She has also contributed to This American Life and The New Yorker. Most important, she knows someone who knows Julian Assange too well.

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH (EOTM) is a talk show about work, jobs and labor. I wanted to hear from folks with some of the best jobs in the world. It’s why I interview (and award) these special snowflakes. That said, even if you love your job, you may not be eligible for the prestigious EMPLOYEE of the MONTH award. For example, dictators, most politicians, and parking ticket officers are ineligible.

LESLEY STAHL on EMPLOYEE of the MONTH May 06, 2013

LESLEY STAHL got her street cred covering the Watergate scandal and went onto become the second anchorwoman in history at CBS News. Since then, she's been breaking news and investigating cultural phenomena at 60 Minutes. We spoke candidly about finances, sexism, and her pithy interviews with, amongst others, Ariel Sharon, Nicholas Sarkozy, Jerry Falwell, and, of course, Boy George.

DICK CAVETT on Employee of the Month Apr 22, 2013
    Show notes

DICK CAVETT is one of the greatest talk show hosts in history and my personal favorite. He's won a numerous Emmy Awards for his talk show(s), that were on the air for five decades (and, technically two centuries, since you can buy the DVDs for The Dick Cavett Show). These I've never witnessed the type of candid, genuine conversations Cavett had with folks like John Kerry, although both have maintained their lustrous locks. Today, Cavett writes a column for The New York Times and his most recent book is TALK SHOW.

CATIE LAZARUS is the host of the critically acclaimed EMPLOYEE of the MONTH SHOW and writes a monthly column for The BillFold.

After being a hit at indie film festivals like Sundance, SXSW and Tribeca Film Festival, MICHAEL GOTTWALD's truly independent film found its fans. They told their friends, family and even exes and, soon enough, Gottwald and (his team) COURT 13's little film was enjoying a Hollywood ending. Beasts of the Southern Wild was up for the Oscar for Best Picture, after just winning Cannes Camera D'Or prize.

Common Rotation's Employee of the Month Theme Song Apr 02, 2013

Common Rotation, the fantabulous folk band, kindly created our fantastic theme song. Jordan Katz, Eric Kufs and Adam Busch (who has also received the Employee of the Month award) are the main players and I am so proud and grateful to have them as Employee of the Month's official band for all West Coast, East and South Asia live tapings. I thoroughly recommend you check out their music. They perform live and you can download their albums!
