The TEXAS Deer Hunting Experience Dec 13, 2021

Show notes

I was invited to hunt South Texas with the Pnuma Outdoors Recon Team late October 2021. The initial invitation was for axis deer, hogs and possibly some whitetail does. I didn't flinch at the opportunity, especially since the hunt was at the end of October when I historically don't have much going on for hunts. This turned out to be one of the greatest hunts I've ever been on and I ended up shooting my biggest whitetail buck to date.

Privatization of Elk Hunting Part 4 Dec 10, 2021

Show notes

Part 4 of this series highlighting the popularity of elk hunting and examining how the resource gets allocated. Today we're discussing NM ePlus program with Kerrie Cox Romero, executive director of the NM Outfitter Association. This is a fun conversation and we tackle some of the grey areas of the landowner tag allocation, outfitter tag allocation and few other "misconceptions." Kerrie does a great job defending her side, her perspective and creates a thoughtful well articulated argument for keeping the ePlus program the way it is.

The Privatization of Elk Hunting Part 3 Nov 15, 2021

Show notes

Today we are recording with:

Marcus Strange - Montana Wildlife Federation

John Sullivan - Montana BHA Chair / Volunteer

Andrew Posewitz - Hardcore Montana Elk Hunter

We are discussing Montana elk tag allocation. Proposed changes that will take tags away from the general tag hunter and how to navigate the possibility of Montana elk hunting going towards a similar model that New Mexico has in place!

Here are links to Montana FWP Commissioners and Commission Meetings:

https://fwp.mt.gov/aboutfwp/commission

Here is the agenda for upcoming FWP Commission meeting. As you can see they will be dealing with a lot of issues, including crossbows in archery-only season, grizzly bear relocation, and new 454 agreements providing elk tags to landowners in exchange for access. https://fwp.mt.gov/about-fwp/news/commissionagendas/2021/october-28-2021-commission-meeting
