    109. The Buddhist Approach to New Year's Resolutions. Jan 02, 2023
    Show notes

Cheerful New Year! I send love and luck and healing and kindness and caring to you all, pass it on! May we all be genuinely happy, content, and full of benefit for others. For those of us who survived 2022 mostly intact, may we rest in gratitude—and share any kindnesses we have received, in this life, with others who have been made more vulnerable, this year. Support local, please. Boycott Amazon, please. Climate Change is here, and gathering power—please engage in micro and macro actions to reverse it, like protecting mature trees, going vegan, going zero-waste, offsetting your travel, and when you travel, supporting local. May this year help heal us, and bring us together, even as our very real differences continue to wake us up to important questions: can we continue to progress toward equality, and equity? Can we promote truth, not lies? Can we find respect for science, not "youtube research" and conspiracy theories? Can we feel our defeat, our cynicism, dig deep, and be the ones we have been waiting for? The answer is simple: we must. Thank you for reading and listening to Elephant, this year.

    108. Waylon's "3 Mindful Tips every Friday." Dec 30, 2022
    Show notes

This week on Waylon's "3 Mindful Tips every Friday": Drama, Letting go isn't Dropping, & Equal Appreciation. Oh my!

"Even if something is negative—negative is hard, it's scary—if we can be brave, if we can be open, if we can be vulnerable, if we can care...then we can actually become truly fearless.

The Buddhist definition of fearlessness is not being without fear, but going through fear and actually relaxing and being comfortable. So drama, if it happens to us once in a while, is probably because we're surrounded by some neurosis. If it happens to us regularly, however, it is time to take some responsibility. Which is what we talked about last week.

You can find all the videos on my new brand new YouTube channel." ~ Waylon Lewis

    107. A 20-second Holiday Meditation for Stress, Drama & Fear…all the ucky stuff. Dec 26, 2022
    Show notes

Inside a new Walk the Talk Show conversation this week with Waylon Lewis: he shares a short, basic meditation that can be used during the holidays, or any big moments in our lives, to help with stress, anxiety, drama, fear, and all the ucky stuff.

"If you do it all the time, your problems will be solved because you'll turn into a Buddhist superhero—so watch out..!

There's no prerequisites to this meditation. There are meditations in Buddhism where it's really important we do them in order, and we have some preparation and study. This one, however, is basic. That doesn't mean it's light. It's quite powerful, but it's basic, and you can do it at any moment." ~ Waylon Lewis

    105. Habitual Patterns: Give your mind a Break. Dec 19, 2022
    Show notes

Inside a new Walk the Talk Show conversation this week with Waylon Lewis: he speaks about why the choices we make around our habitual patterns and what we do with them matter.

We wake up and get on our phones. When the day is done, the TV's on.

"Thank you so much. Hope you're all very well. Try to inject a little more mindfulness into your day…and that'll help your brain deal with stress, deal with drama, deal with burnout, deal with depression.

A lot of times people say you can't help depression with these things—there's literally a study that came out recently about how depression is seriously alleviated and sometimes even prevented by going for a walk in nature.

So, yes: what we do with our habitual patterns matters." ~ Waylon Lewis

    103. Waylon Lewis talks with Dating Coach Jolene Beaton: how to find your person. Dec 12, 2022
    Show notes

Inside a new Walk the Talk Show conversation this week with Waylon Lewis: he speaks with Jolene Beaton as they discuss dating today, reaching out to community to find meaningful connections, and how to begin to share yourself with the world, whether you're looking for a date or not.

"I super casually posted [on Instagram]. I post this thing about being ready to date and honestly, I thought it might be kind of exciting and fun and maybe it would have 20 comments and it turned out to be hundreds of comments.

And you know, the best comments were people saying, 'you know what, this inspires me to reach out on to my community and be open. This is maybe an effective way to connect with my people and there's nothing shameful about it.'

I love that." ~ Waylon Lewis

    101. My name isn't Waylon "Lewis"—on anti-Semitism. Dec 05, 2022
    Show notes

Prejudice is complicated: anti-Semitism is real and yet there are different layers of privilege and racism and sexism and homophobia and many more virulent forms of "othering"—you know, ignorant hate.

Prejudice is simple: we dissolve it when we open our minds and hearts. That's how we know it isn't true, it can only survive in the clouds of that ignorance and hate.

I'm half-Jewish. Whenever I post about anti-Semitism on Facebook, over the past years, my own friends and community have dismissed my personal concerns. Whatever, you're white, they say.

Read my response on Elephant Journal: My name isn't "Waylon Lewis."
