Geraldine is a clinically trained herbalist, gardener, and botanical dyer. The thread that weaves her work together is the concept of bioregionalism. Geraldine has been studying herbalism for over a decade. She has taught classes on herbal medicine making and theory at Yale University, Bard College, conferences, retreats, food coops, lifestyle stores, many farms, even a music festival. After every class, she receives feedback that her style is organized, thorough, and students feel like they have expanded their understanding of the subject matter. Geraldine believes that each class is an opportunity to empower her students and demystify the world of plant and mushroom medicine.

We are excited to share that Geraldine will be teaching a workshop with Earth Speak this March, on Tending the Earth: A Sensual Gardening Workshop. Show notes

Natalie Ross, Earth Speak co-founder, shares about the traditions around the Celtic holiday called Imbolc that signifies the beginning of spring.

From Natalie:

"My ancestral lineages are Celtic and Nordic. What I'm sharing is part of my investigations into my own ancestral roots to discover who are the people in my lineages who were Indigenous to a land, and what were their beliefs and customs. If you enjoy this, please let us know!"

You're going to hear about:

What Imbolc is and why it was one of the 4 most important celebrations of the year
How the Wheel of the Year isn't actually Celtic
Brigid, the multi-faceted goddess associated with Imbolc

I'll also share several ways you can celebrate Imbolc in your own practices and rituals.

This whole episode transcript is posted on our website in the show notes at www.earthspeak.love/shows-1/folklore-and-imbolc-38.

Christi Johnson is a textile artist and teacher whose personal work explores the sacred in the process of creation using a language of geometric forms and color spectrums. The work becomes a quest for harmony, finding a dance of color, pattern, and texture within the chaos of material options. The transforming and evolving qualities of natural materials are embraced, and the use of discarded materials gives new life to that which has been cast aside.

In 2015, Johnson founded Mixed Color, a textile studio in the Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York. Her studio produces original garments and creates embroidered pieces on vintage garments. As a teacher, Johnson also offers workshops in natural dyeing and embroidery. To not only educate others on these ancient skills but also share the methods of her own creative practice, she has created kits and booklets for students and DIY-ers. She works mostly with textiles - embroidery, natural dyes, and patchwork, but has been known to get down with some twigs, wood, and other natural materials.

We are excited to share that Christi will be hosting a workshop with Earth Speak on November 13th, 2020, on Talismanic Embroidery - how to make your clothes magical. Join us for the workshop, or sign up to watch the replay and learn how to turn a few basic stitches into infinite possibilities.
