An Early Break listener emailed a great question regarding new expectations for players coming out of high school Jan 05, 2023

Show notes

-Jon in Minnesota emailed after the show was over yesterday and asked what the starting expectation should be for a high school athlete in the current age of the transfer portal

-Jon asks this: would you rather recruit a HS player you develop for 3 years who is a guaranteed starter as a senior, or play the lottery with a transfer recruit who might start more, or might never start at all?

What did Penn State’s quietly great season tell us about teams that don’t make the playoff? Jan 05, 2023

Show notes

-Penn State is going to end the season easily as a Top 10 team, with an 11-2 record following a win over Utah in the Rose Bowl….and no one talked about them pretty much for the whole season

-Penn State won 10 of their 11 games by double-digit points….their only win by single-digits was the opening game against Purdue…but they lost to Michigan by 24 points and Ohio State by 13 points

-No one at Penn State would say it was a bad season, right? Why are they forgotten?

Was bowl season an overall win for the B1G or a big failure because of Michigan and Ohio State’s losses? / Shut Up Sipple (sponsored by Bagels & Joe) Jan 04, 2023

Show notes

-No one’s into moral victories, but had Ohio State made the game-winning field goal against Georgia, the conference would be 6-3 in bowl games and have a chance at the national championship

-As it stands, the B1G finished 5-4 in bowl games, and went 0-2 in the playoff semifinals. Do those 2 losses wash away anything good from the bowl record or not? Penn State’s win was nice…
