Longtime college hoops analyst Andy Katz revealed his awards for All-B1G and more, with one very curious choice / Shut Up Sipple (sponsored by Bagels & Joe) Mar 12, 2024

Show notes

-Katz has covered the B1G at length the last few years; Nebraska’s Rienk Mast was the only player on his 1^st through 3^rd All B1G teams (Mast was on the 2^nd team). Juwan Gary was on the All Defensive team

-Though Katz did say Fred Hoiberg was the Coach of the Year…he listed Michigan’s Phil Martelli as the assistant coach of the year. For a team that finished dead last and is on an 8-game skid. HOW? WHY?

If the College Football Playoff expands to 14 teams, don’t expect the SEC and B1G champs to get auto byes, as had been previously discussed Mar 12, 2024

Show notes

-Rumors exist that 2026 could be the year we already jump from 12 teams to 14 teams, and early push was to have the 2 extra spots be allowed to have the champions of the B1G and SEC have an auto bye

-Pushback was loud, including TCU head coach Sonny Dykes saying, “Automatic first round byes for the SEC and B1G is like the NFL saying the Cowboys get a first round bye because they have more fans than the Bengals…how preposterous is that?”

NFL Free Agency got underway yesterday…what were the biggest stories of the day? Mar 12, 2024

Show notes

-We mentioned yesterday that Russell Wilson is headed to the Steelers on a one-year contract…paid pretty much entirely by the Broncos. Nothing much for Pittsburgh to lose…

-In other news, Deandre Swift is headed to the Bears, Bills’ left tackle Dion Dawkins trolled everyone into thinking he got released before announcing he signed a big extension….what else as the day went on?

It seems like a no-brainer question, but let’s check with the listeners: would you rather Nebrasketball win the B1G Tournament or win a game in the NCAA Tournament? Mar 12, 2024

Show notes

-It might seem like a silly question, but it was posed by the World-Herald’s Sam McKewon---a trusted and very solid journalist---on X/Twitter on Sunday

-The poll received over 4,500 votes and (not surprisingly to Jake, at least) was 85% in favor of winning a game in the Dance vs. winning the conference tournament

-If that’s the obvious answer to the question, can we give light to the 15% who’d rather win the B1G tourney?

Would Nebraska fans be upset if upcoming marquee non-conference games were removed from the schedule? Mar 11, 2024

Show notes

-Sip and Sean Callahan of Husker Online spoke to Nebraska AD Trev Alberts last week, and future schedule talk was discussed, notably about some home-and-homes in non-conference against teams like Tennessee, Arizona, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State

-If Trev and Matt Rhule decide the better path to possibly getting to the playoffs is with not playing those games, what would the pushback be if any?

-Also, Nebraska baseball comes back from big deficit yesterday to take the first home series of the season against South Alabama…12-7 final score on Sunday (trailed 6-2 at one point)
