It’s Give to Lincoln Day here at CEDARS, and John Cook just earned some additional money to give with a contract extension yesterday May 30, 2024

Show notes

-It’s been a few months of extensions in Husker athletics with both Fred Hoiberg and Amy Williams getting extended before Troy Dannen even arrived (thanks, Dennis Leblanc!), and now John Cook has been extended through the 2028 season, making him the highest paid coach in women’s volleyball

-Cook will now make $825,000 per year…and part of his agreement was that he’d get a “high performance horse” out of it---which is what the $70,000 retention bonus will go to

-Also, a visit in person from Andrew Newton of Newton’s Lawn Care…Idle Chit Chat! A quick CEDARS story from Andrew while we are out on the porch celebrating today….plug: GIVETOLINCOLN.COM – choose CEDARS

Do you ever want Nebraska football to open up with a featured matchup to begin the season again? May 29, 2024

Show notes

-We’ve been tortured with losses to Northwestern in Ireland; to Illinois in Week Zero on the road; to Minnesota on Thursday night last year to begin the season…when people for a while asked for that

-Have we learned our lesson? UTEP comes in apparently as a 28-point underdog to Nebraska on August 31^st (per Bet Online). No game is ever a given, but it’s nice to not have as much of a ‘toss up’ game

-Even with the 12 team playoff…do you want to see a big matchup again or at least not for awhile?

Are Nebraska fans starting to believe that they can have nice things again in the sports world? May 29, 2024

Show notes

-“Next year” has been the theme for Husker fans for too many years; it was funny starting off, and then just got sad with the misery of Husker football missing so many bowl games in a row; Husker basketball having historically bad seasons; and Husker baseball not delivering the success hoped

-Husker baseball just won the program’s first conference tournament title since 2005 and is off to Stillwater, and Husker basketball made their first NCAA Tournament in 10 years back in March

-With the high hopes of the football program…are we getting past doom and gloom as a fan base?
