Matt Rhule met with media yesterday to discuss Nebraska’s special teams, Dylan Raiola and more in his bye week press conference…what did we learn? Oct 08, 2024

Show notes

-Rhule was unsurprisingly not pleased with special teams again, lamenting the two blocked punts and even calling out Isaac Gifford on the first one, and saying that the team needs to stop having “catastrophic mistakes.” Nice to be 5-1 with that type of problem..

-Also, Rhule says he is unphased by Dylan Raiola’s rough outing, and said that the bye week comes at a good time as he prepares for the 2^nd half of his freshman season

-What else did we learn yesterday? Sip was in the room…

We’ve reached the bye week and the midway point of the Husker football season…what should be the expectation for the rest of the season? Oct 07, 2024

Show notes

-Before the year, we said Nebraska should ideally be between 6-8 wins, maybe 9-10 if things go right. Well, they’re on a good track for 7-9 wins with their 5-1 record

-Indiana will be a very tough contest after the bye week, and if the Huskers win they are officially bowl-eligible with 5 games to go and we can take a collective sigh of relief

-With that being said…do you reassess anything of your initial projections now that we’re halfway through?

Nebraska’s defense turned back the clock to 2009 with Ndamukong Suh in the building and beat Rutgers, 14-7, to reach the midway point of the season at 5-1 Oct 07, 2024

Show notes

-Fans watching the game were surely waiting for the shoe to drop all game long as Rutgers had the ball in Husker territory often—including a drive that started at the Nebraska 2-yard line---but the Scarlet Knights could only muster 7 total points

-Nebraska’s offense went silent in the 2^nd half and Dylan Raiola had his worst game as a Husker, but they still found a way to win---winning with special teams late in a game where that unit failed them badly

-What do you take away from that game? It was definitely a very “Big Ten” way to win a game…
