What happened to the importance of draft picks in the NBA and other pro sports? Jun 17, 2025

Show notes

On Sunday, we saw the Magic trade 4 first round picks and a player for Memphis’ Desmond Bane…we’ve seen in previous years the T’Wolves trade 4 first round picks to the Jazz for Rudy Gobert, and the Clippers traded SGA and 5 first round picks to the Thunder a few years ago (what an idiotic trade THAT was)..

It’s not as bad in the NFL (at least not the past year or 2)…but why are seeing such drastic amounts of first round draft picks traded?

A closer look at ESPN’s FPI rankings has some curious records projected for B1G teams in 2025 Jun 17, 2025

Show notes

We saw the FPI rankings last week, but if you look at the projected records, here are some that stand out: Penn State, Ohio State and Oregon all at 10-2; Michigan and USC at 8-4; Nebraska, Indiana and Washington at 7-5; and Illinois at 6-6

Why are the rankings so low on Illinois, who some believe could be a playoff contender?

Nebraska needs to prove it can win close games this season to get the record it wants to have…does it have the kicker it needs to win in the clutch? Jun 17, 2025

Show notes

Our neighbors to the East---Iowa---seemingly every year have not just good special teams, but ELITE special teams, and almost always a reliable kicker. See: Drew Stevens’ kick from 50+ yards last year to beat Nebraska at the end of the game

We enter this year once again not sure of the kicking situation. John Hohl is battling an injury, Tristan Alvano’s confidence is worrisome, and who knows about the new kicker that came from the portal
