HARD NOSE THE HIGHWAY Apr 17, 2025

Show notes

Doing an episode like this is one of the reasons I chose this journey in the first place. To uncover hidden magic in previously overlooked or maligned places like Hard Nose the Highway. Van rarely performed any material off of it and critics savaged it, but does it really deserve the scorn?Irish filmmaker/writer/artist Eamonn Dillon and I disassemble this work to find it's bloody and beautiful beating heart.

Pacific High Studios 1971 Oct 10, 2024

Show notes

This is the first episode of an occasional sideline from the catalog, into the live bootleg arena. This recording is widely available all over the internet and was the first non-catalog live release I heard of his. I believe it nearly equals "It's Too Late To Stop Now..." and is the single boot I return to most. Joining me for this discussion of the show is return guest, Colton Cerny. Although this is his second appearance, it was recorded almost a year ago (which may become evident with our references to Van's then most current music, etc). Enjoy!

SAINT DOMINIC'S PREVIEW Sep 06, 2024

Show notes

Ken Samuels returns to discuss one of the Mount Rushmore albums of Van's catalog. This was a fun one!

Hymns To The Silence author Peter Mills Jun 28, 2024

Show notes

Thank you for listening. Please go buy yourself a copy of Hymns To The Silence by Peter Mills. You'll thank me!

TUPELO HONEY Apr 11, 2024

Show notes

This episode, musician Colton Cerny and I discuss the third album of Van's initial mainstream trilogy of releases. That's right, we go deep into the history, players and songwriting of this classic album. It's a damn shame its's not available on any streaming sites. Let me know if you agree with me and Colton or not. Enjoy!

Matt Holland Interview part 2 Mar 07, 2024

Show notes

Please enjoy this continuation of my conversation with Van Trumpeter/Musical Director Matt Holland. Next episode coming soon, exploring Tupelo Honey!
