    Show notes

Dua is joined by the lawyer, civil rights leader, and founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, Bryan Stevenson, whose dedication to the poor, the incarcerated and the condemned once led Archbishop Desmond Tutu to call him “America’s young Nelson Mandela.” In 2018, Bryan also founded the Legacy Museum and the National Monument for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama, two national landmarks that chronicle the country’s evolution through slavery, the Jim Crow era and lynching to today’s epidemic of mass incarceration and racial injustice. Their conversation touches upon themes of injustice, poverty, racism and apartheid.

For most listeners, Monica will need no introduction: when news of her affair with President Bill Clinton broke in 1998, she became ‘Patient Zero’ of the internet, the first person whose global humiliation was driven online. Here, Monica discusses with Dua how she found the courage to reclaim her own story, her evolving relationship with feminism, and the work that still needs to be done to prevent history from repeating itself.

Dua Lipa’s Perfect Roast Chicken Recipe

    1. Take your chicken out of the fridge half an hour before cooking so it is room temperature and set your oven to 240°C (for American ovens, this is roughly equivalent to 450°F, or 465°F if you're able to change your oven temperature in 5° increments).

    2. Wash and prep your chosen vegetables. Chop the tops and bottoms off, then halve them widthwise then lengthways.

    3. Keep the skin on the red onions, chopping just the tops off, allowing the skin to fall off whilst cooking (dispose of the skin once it's fallen off during your cook). Repeat this step with your garlic.

    4. Add all your vegetables to a large metal roasting tin and lay your chicken atop them.

    5. Cover the contents of the tin in extra virgin olive oil, salt, and pepper.

    6. Take a handful of fresh or dried herbs of your choice and place atop the wings of the chicken and mix amongst the vegetables.

    7. Cut a fresh lemon in half and stuff inside the chicken.

    8. Before putting the chicken in the oven, turn the oven down to 200°C/ (for American ovens, 400°F)

    9. Put the chicken in to roast for 80 minutes, taking it out halfway through to baste with its own juices from the tin.

    10. Once the chicken is cooked, let it rest for 15 minutes before serving. Don't forget to dispose of the onion and garlic skins! "

After 11 episodes featuring powerful, funny, moving, and motivational interviews with some amazing guests, I thought it might be fun to turn the microphone around on myself for a change. We recorded this episode backstage at my Cardiff Arena show, just before soundcheck.

I wanted to look back and share some of my takeaways from this series, and answer some of the great questions you’ve been kind enough to send in to podcast@service95.com. I’m also pulling back the curtain on the recording process and sharing some behind-the-scenes goss! So join me for an episode filled with insider secrets, reflections, and the lessons I’ve learned whilst always remaining At Your Service.

    Riz Ahmed Apr 22, 2022
    Show notes

This week’s Dua Lipa: At Your Service guest is actor, musician, activist, and (very!) recent Oscar winner Riz Ahmed. Their all-encompassing conversation explores Riz’s journey from Wembley to Hollywood with detours through Afghanistan and Pakistan; the unexpected parallels for a young Muslim man between the audition room and airport security; and how he snuck a music video into the Academy Awards nominations and came out a winner.

Nadia Murad and Amal Clooney Apr 15, 2022
    Show notes

In 2014, this week’s ‘At Your Service’ guest, Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad, was a young woman of 21, when at the height of the ISIS caliphate in Northern Iraq, ISIS surrounded her Yazidi community in the Sinjar region. Her brothers and mother were killed in a mass slaughter. Nadia and her sisters were abducted into sexual slavery. After she managed a remarkable and daring escape, she channeled her trauma to incredible effect, today advocating for survivors of genocide and sexual violence. She tells her story on this week’s episode, joined by her legal counsel, barrister Amal Clooney.

Trigger warning: the material in this episode is powerful and inspiring, but it can also be disturbing and quite hard to hear. If you are sensitive to content about physical and sexual violence, or if you believe that you might find the discussion to be triggering, this episode may not be right for you.
