How Do We Find Happiness? Or Does It Find Us? Aug 30, 2026

Musicians, singers, and songwriters Tim Grimm and Sergio Webb performed in Madison, Wisconsin. The outdoor house concert was especially special, but the larger message about how life presents people and moments in such random designs begs the question to be pondered. Do we find happiness, or does happiness find us? (Please note there are roughly three seconds--in total--of static as a thunderstorm somehow inserted itself into my recording. Grrrrr.)

Caffeinated Politics Episode: Israeli Vote in Congress, Climate Change Leads Newscasts, And Public Safety With Gun Bans in Cook County And Connecticut Jul 18, 2026
    Show notes

What a week as Democrats break with blind support for Israel, and Pete Hegseth is concerned about testosterone in the military. What happens when the atmosphere becomes the lead story? And what about gun control bans in places like Cook County, once the Supreme Court hears a case later this fall, opposed to the ban?

Caffeinated Politics Episode: Founding Ideals, Political Decay, And Coloma, Wisconsin Jul 10, 2026

The new book, The Lost Founder, by Jesse Wegman, is examined for ideas about what happiness meant to the Founders and which Supreme Court justice introduced the concept of judicial review. Coloma, Wisconsin, is discussed in relation to the New England annual town meetin' (no g) and why the small village might consider such a gathering after it was reported that two Waushara County Sheriff's Department officers collected $75,000 each but issued no citations and made no arrests.

Caffeinated Politics Podcast: Waushara Argus Fails Democracy, Waushara County Sheriff's Department Undermines Public Trust Jun 27, 2026

Stacy Vaccaro and Jim Lietz (current and former sheriff's deputies) made the Waushara Argus this week with news that begs the question, what does conservatism mean in a red county that purports it desires fiscal austerity? The Badger Project broke the news this month. The Argus, itself, is a focal point for requiring letters to the editor to be paid for, which undermines an open letters policy that is broadly respected nationwide by newspapers. American values that we took for granted are under attack, and that is the theme in this podcast.

Is there a case to be made for not supporting the United States soccer team at FIFA games, given what our nation has done from ICE to Iran? A dinner party in Dane County asked what criteria the Germans used as Hitler came to power as a way to measure when citizens need to consider leaving their country of birth. What lessons can Americans learn from the lead-up to WWII as we watch our democracy continuously attacked?

From the fight over counting mail-in ballots after Election Day to stopping federal aggression against a Milwaukee man who has lived with the correct paperwork in the United States for 30 years but strongly advocates for Palestinian rights, this episode is timely and punchy.

    Show notes

The lack of a national birthday party for the semiquincentennial is troubling, as is the lack of leadership in the Wisconsin statehouse regarding how to use a $2 billion surplus. Also, Elvis made a headline this week. All that and more on Gregory Humphrey's Caffeinated Politics Podcast.
