Episode 82: Andrew Aug 09, 2017

Show notes

This week we have two episodes for you to get down on. First up is Andrew, who is one have of the Dingus Boys. I met Andrew and Nick when Fiona (whom you might remember from episode 20) asked me if I wanted to participate in their charity stream. They were streaming Dark Souls 3 for 24 hours straight, so I jumped in for an hour or two and chatted with them about their Souls experiences. You can find that video below! A few months later Andrew and I sat down to talk about his entire history with the games. Enjoy.

Episode 81: Cara Aug 02, 2017

Show notes

It's another episode! This week's guest is Cara, who is maybe the nicest Souls player I've talked to so far, which I make a point it tell her throughout the episode. Anyone willing to volunteer their time to help people through 5-2 in Demon's Souls is basically a saint as far as I'm concerned. Cara started from the beginning and worked her through the series chronologically, and likes to play through these games multiple times and has hundreds of hours across all the games. We talk about all five, and I'm 100% sure you will agree with me when I saw Cara is super nice.

As I usually do, I sent Cara an early copy of the episode to make sure she was ok with the edit. She sent me back a list of time stamped notes that I found super interesting, so I asked if I could include those. So here's a live tweet version of her reaction to the episode (note: some times might be slightly off due to additional editing).

2:29 – I haven’t played games in a solid month, but my fav character Chop Chop is well on her way to 400 hrs @_@
4:00 – I sound exactly like someone mixed my high school cousin and my dad in equal parts
27:11: I’m underselling a little bit how much I died on ladders LOL
29:40: ahaha I paused so long there I thought the stream glitched
30:32: oh finally circled back around to the mechanics thing lol
33:40 : I want you to know when I’m casting around for a word and come up with center, I’m visualizing a creamy nougat center of like a candy bar
35:05: BLOODBORNE 2 LET ME FIGHT THE MOON
35:26: “little” disappointed I’m underselling again. VERY disappointed. When I was playing through corpse tank area I forget the name, I went outside and took pictures of the full moon and sent it to my friends with the captions “FIGHT ME!!!”
44:40: I love that level but I can’t remember its name :D I have my own names for everything so lining those up official names is pretty hard for me
46:15: I couldn’t remember this at the time, but I got one piece of hatemail in DS3 and it was meant for someone else ☹ I did get a lot of rage quit disconnects in demon’s, I count those as a version of hatemail :D
47:10: I was also coming in directly from bloodborne (jan 16– apr16) which I came directly from dark souls 2 dlc (july 15 – dec 15). Aaand I just spent ten minutes researching my twitter for these dates
47:33: It was the thief class, not the assassin. Lol why am I always picking thiefs
48:05: I made a video of my iudex Gundry for my mom and a friend I was trying to get to play souls to prove that even experts die a lot it’s good for a laugh at least tl:dr 17 deaths and 59 minutes before I remembered I could block with my shield
51:25: ringed city invasions took over my life after we recorded this
53:15: it’s been almost four months and we still don’t know what’s next for from soft :/
54:50: fyi, my mom plays starcraft

Episode 80: Ben H. Jul 26, 2017

Show notes

Hello! This week's guest is Ben, a big Souls fan with some interesting stories about the games. He talks about bouncing off of Demon's Souls, his first "cheated" playthrough of Dark Souls 1, and how Dark Souls brought him and his son together. I also include some of his son's music, specifically a Soul of Cinder remix that you might have heard about on an appendix episode of Bonfireside Chat. It's a great chat, and I know y'all will enjoy it.

Episode 79: Aegon of Astora Jul 19, 2017

Show notes

Hello skeletons! This week's guest is Aegon of Astora, a name you probably recognize if you've spent any time on YouTube watching lore videos. I caught up with Aegon on the day The Ringed City DLC came out for Dark Souls 3, and both of us took a break from playing that to record this podcast. It's pretty fun listening to us try not to spoil one another while trying to figure out where the other one is. Aegon and I talk about his history with the Souls series, how he approaches these games as a player and also someone that makes lore videos, and a bunch of stuff in between. Stay tuned after the credits of the show for a brief conversation about the DLC itself.

Since recording this episode, Aegon has started a twitter where he chats Souls with people. It's not mentioned at the end, but you can find links below. Thanks for listening!

Episode 78: Grace Jul 12, 2017

Show notes

You probably remember episode 69 (nice), right? Where 4 extremely gay ladies came on to talk about their love for Lady Maria? Well, today's guest is one of those ladies: Grace! Her and I sit down to talk about our mutual love for the Souls games, and man, it's just so much fun to talk to someone who is genuinely enthusiastic about these games! You can just tell she loves them a whole bunch. Enjoy the episode, and remember to check out Don't Give Up, Skeleton for all the links to the show you could possibly want.

Episode 77: Alex K. Jul 05, 2017

Show notes

Today's guest is Alex K! Alex and I sit down and talk about his initial difficulty with the Souls games, and how quickly he went from "this is too hard" to "I must play all of these games immediately." In fact, he tells me finished all five within six months, something I've heard a few times on this podcast but still don't believe is actually possible.

Thanks for the listening everyone!

Episode 76: John G. Jun 28, 2017

Episode 75: Silver Jun 21, 2017

Show notes

This week's guest is Silver, a friend of a friend I met that loves the Souls games, and plays them in a very intense way. Silver and I walk through their history of the games, and get into Silver's opinion on why Dark Souls 2 failed to live up to Dark Souls 1. It's a fun conversation, as it generally is every episode, and I think you'll dig it. Make sure to check the links and help save the red pandas, which Silver has been doing for a long, long time.

Episode 74: Zach, from Lordran and Beyond Jun 14, 2017

Show notes

If your'e a Souls fan that's spent any sort of time on Tumblr, you've probably heard of Lordran and Beyond. A Dark Souls fanart blog and webcomic, it's pretty much THE blog for all your Dark Souls needs. I sat down with Zach to chat about his history with the series, how and why he started the blog, and why he thinks Resident Evil Souls is the future of the series. No, I'm not kidding. It's a great conversation, so enjoy!
