    The 1689 on the Church (26.3) Feb 17, 2020
    Show notes

Joe and Jimmy are back, trying to figure out their new recording equipment. They discuss ecclesiology: how sone churches are better than others, but that all churches, even the healthiest ones, are "subject to mixture and error." And that some "churches" are not churches at all. Nevertheless, the church of Jesus Christ will persevere and grow until our Lord returns. Plus, the guys recommend a few books on ecclesiology.

While the guys ultimately believe that what demonstrates the relevance of a local church is the biblical message and mission of the church, Joe and Jimmy weigh in on how Carey might be right and wrong in his article.

Though only a small portion of our content addresses current controversies, when it is particularly relevant to us, or the church we serve, we jump in and talk it out. On this bonus episode we discuss the recent change in the Acts 29 Network. Steve Timmis (CEO) is out, and Christianity Today published an article on this transition, including accusations against the leadership of Timmis. Joe and Jimmy try to keep it real while addressing these accusations and the related issues in general.

The Discipline of Solitude Jan 23, 2020
    Show notes

Joe and Jimmy are back and offer up a real episode on the discipline of silence and solitude. Yes, back in 2017 we published an April Fool's joke that some of you fell for. Forget that. This is the real deal. Is solitude a biblical discipline? Why does it matter, and how should we do it? We encourage you to pick up Don Whitney's book, Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life to go deeper.
