The US presidential election is now just a few days away, and polls between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have been tight ever since the sitting vice president replaced Joe Biden as the Democrat candidate.

If there are fifty states, why are those seven so pivotal in deciding the election? Which states are we talking about? How do swing states affect campaign strategies? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Does music really make us more productive? Oct 30, 2024
    Show notes

LoFi, short for "Low Fidelity," it blends elements of jazz with hip-hop rhythms, creating a relaxing soundscape. This genre has gained immense popularity, in part due to the YouTube channel *Lofi Girl*, which, as of October 2024, boasts over 14 million subscribers. The channel offers a 24/7 livestream of LoFi tracks designed to serve as ambient background music.

Research on this topic offers mixed insights. According to BBC Science Focus, one study conducted in a textile factory found that slow-tempo music can actually decrease productivity by slowing workers' pace. The study suggested that more upbeat music might be more effective in maintaining productivity.

But does it actually help with productivity? How should you choose music for work? Does personality influence how music affects productivity? What are some popular choices for productivity? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Does stress really cause grey hair? Oct 29, 2024
    Show notes

We’ve all heard the saying, "This is giving me grey hair!" But is there any truth to it? Actually, yes.

Several scientific studies confirm that stress can speed up the process of hair turning white. One such study, published in the journal Nature in 2020, involved Harvard scientists who used mice to explore how stress affects hair pigmentation.

What did they find? Is there any way to reverse this? What’s the takeaway? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Who are the real-life zombies that have been seen in Haiti? Oct 28, 2024
    Show notes

Zombies are familiar to most of us Westerners through popular culture; thanks to depictions in classic horror movies, TV shows like The Walking Dead, or even video games like Resident Evil.

But the idea of zombies actually goes beyond the realm of fiction. In fact, some people in the real world claim to have encountered them, and not just as gory monsters with a taste for brains. Today, we’re going to discuss the cultural beliefs that keep these stories alive.

What parts of the world do such beliefs come from? Is it like being turned into a zombie strips away the very essence of being human? Is there any evidence to support the existence of real-life zombies? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Why do we change clocks twice per year? Oct 27, 2024
    Show notes

“Spring forward, fall back” goes the saying; that’s right - today, Sunday the 27th of October 2024, saw the clocks go back an hour, meaning it gets dark earlier all of a sudden and winter is on its way!

If there’s one day, or rather two days, of the year where you don’t want to schedule any important appointments, it’s on a day when the clock changes. Forgetting the time change is something that’s happened to all of us at least once in our lifetimes. Changing our clocks is so ingrained into our culture that we never really call it into question. But it has actually become a subject of debate in recent years, with some people even saying we should do away with the whole idea.

Who first came up with the idea then? What’s the point of it all? Why is it a subject of debate then? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Why do some people get a headache during sex? Oct 26, 2024
    Show notes

Sex is generally synonymous with pleasure, but sometimes it can bring on headaches that are unpleasant at best. They’re known as sex headaches or orgasm headaches, but the scientific term is “primary headache associated with sexual activity”. And they don’t just kill the mood in the bedroom.

The resulting pain usually lasts at least a few minutes according to The Mayo Clinic, but it can be a matter of hours or even days. These headaches can happen regularly, occasionally, or even just once in a lifetime. A case report published in Medical Principles and Practice in 2013 estimated the prevalence of sex-related headaches at 1% to 1.6%, meaning they’re pretty rare all things considered.

What do people typically experience? Do we know what causes them? What should I do if I start getting sex headaches then? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Can men get breast cancer? Oct 25, 2024
    Show notes

Figures from Cancer Research UK show that there are an average of nearly 57,000 new breast cancer cases detected each year in the country. It’s the most common form of cancer, accounting for 15% of all cases.

While the vast majority of breast cancer cases are in women, there are actually around 370 diagnoses in men each year too. That’s right; men also have breast tissue around the nipples, so are also potentially susceptible. As we near the end of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let’s take a moment to discuss the phenomenon and raise awareness, to make sure any symptoms in men don’t go overlooked.

What are the symptoms men should look out for? What factors increase the risk? How is breast cancer in men treated? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

What is the Fermi paradox? Oct 24, 2024
    Show notes

Have you ever felt tiny when contemplating the vast, 14-billion-year-old universe? Maybe you’ve wondered, “Is there another form of intelligence out there, pondering the same questions I am?”

This thought often leads to another: “If the universe is infinite, there must be other forms of life! So why don’t we have any proof?” Congratulations, you’ve just stumbled upon the Fermi Paradox!

How is grounding helping women to have more orgasms? Oct 23, 2024
    Show notes

According to a study published in Current Psychiatry Reports in 2000, 10% - 15% of women are affected by anorgasmia, the inability to reach orgasm.

Often, these difficulties stem from a person or their partner lacking a true understanding of their body. Difficulty in letting go during sexual activity can also be a factor. Today we’re going to talk about a personal development technique which aims to help those who struggle with such issues; it’s called grounding.

What is grounding? How does it actually work? A good communication isn’t enough? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!
