UNITE! Music Festival | San Diego Pride (June 2016) Jun 22, 2016

Show notes

Summer is here and Pride season is in full swing!
I am thrilled and honored to be a part of this year’s inaugural UNITE! Music Festival at San Diego Pride; a weekend that’s gearing up to be what feels like is going to be the biggest pride celebration on the west coast this summer.
On Saturday night, I’ll be playing at OVERDRIVE at Spin Nightclub, alongside three absolute legends: Ivan Gomez, Nina Flowers and Dawna Montell.
I hope you enjoy this podcast. It includes remixes and production work by many fellow UNITE! DJs, including Gomez, DJ Grind (Fri. night), GSP (Fri. night), and Tom Staar (Sat. afternoon), along with amazing new remixes by J Warren & Bret Law, Barry Harris, Johnny Bass, Thomas Solvert and many more.
It's been hard not to think about anything other than Orlando lately. And now, more than ever, it's important that we continue owning the gay dance floor as a place to feel safe and to express ourselves. Our music and our celebrations of Pride must not be silenced.
I end this podcast with one of the most special remixes in the world to me, my idol, Junior Vasquez’s, 1998 Pride mix of Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” – it’s not your typical modern circuit fare, but it’s a very powerful musical journey (in and of itself) which I hope to be able to introduce for the first time to many of my podcast listeners.
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s beautiful smiles on the dance floor for UNITE!

Tech-nically Speaking (Vol. 1 | Dec. 2015) Dec 27, 2015

Show notes

In just under the wire before the beginning of 2016 is installment #2 of my “4 podcasts in 4 weeks” series – a tech-house podcast. (to be followed soon by my classic house and latest deep house podcasts!)
Call this what you will – “actually” a house music podcast, something not purely “techno,” something totally different than the circuit sound I’ve been gravitating towards over the past year, my audition mixtape to finally play next year in Sydney – whatever you want to label it (but I prefer to avoid labels!), I’m thrilled with how this one turned out. Most of it’s at 126 BPM, although it creeps between 125 – 128 at points.
A lot of this is inspired by the Australian sound of late (and it contains mixes by DJ/Producers Philthy Holster, Brett Austin, and Kitty Glitter) – I love so much about what’s popular down there these days.
I’m so happy with this podcast that I already have the tracklist prepared for a “Part 2,” which is ready to go for mid-to-late January. (once I finish my other two genre specific podcasts which are on the back-burner!)
Take a moment and sample this one … I hope you enjoy what you hear!

Halloween New Orleans: Fall of the Pharaohs | Sept. 2015 Nov 14, 2015

Show notes

Hey All,
I’d like to write a very special thank you to everyone who came out for Halloween New Orleans this year. It was truly one of the most amazing nights of my DJ career to date and Saturday night’s “Fall of the Pharaohs” event was definitely one for the record books. I felt like Daft Punk spinning in that pyramid.
I don’t always post my sets, but this one I did indeed record. I hope you enjoy re-living the memories from the night… throw it on at the gym and hopefully the gold body paint will practically re-emerge in your sweat. While mine was a warm-up set, Joe Gauthreaux’s set the second half of the night was probably 3 of the best hours of dance music that I’ve ever heard. I can’t thank the incomparably talented Joe and Stephen Massey (DJ Grind) enough for their amazing camaraderie this year!
And thank you also to everyone who helped make HNO XXXII so special this year! Dustin & Jeff, Ryan W., Ryan C. Neil, Brent, Joe & Stephen and everyone else involved in volunteering for this one-of-a-kind weekend to benefit Project Lazarus. I was honored to be a part of it two years in a row. New Orleans has truly become like a second home to me over the past several years, and I look forward to many return trips in the very near future!
As an extra “thank you,” here also is the tracklist to my set (in case you’d like to seek out the remixes). I lead the night off with a track in tribute to last year’s HNO Saturday night DJ, my friend Tristan Jaxx. Several of my remixes and edits are available on my hearthis.at account - https://hearthis.at/djblacklow/ (In case you haven’t heard, Soundcloud is done. They’re booting off DJs left & right and I expect to have my own account deleted any day now)
