Joy in the Resistance: Loving Jesus When the World Pushes Back – John 15:13–27

In Episode 153 of Divine Table Talk, Jamie and Jane continue through John 15:13–27, where Jesus moves from one of His greatest statements about love—“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”—into a difficult truth about what it means to follow Him: not everyone will understand or accept you.

Jesus calls His disciples friends, commands them to love one another, and reminds them that they have been chosen to bear lasting fruit. But He also prepares them for resistance, rejection, and persecution.

So how do we hold onto joy, love, and faith when following Jesus becomes difficult?

Together, Jamie and Jane explore what it means to love sacrificially without needing the approval of the world, how to remain rooted in Christ when your faith is challenged, and the role of the Holy Spirit—the Advocate—who empowers us to testify about Jesus.

Following Christ doesn't guarantee an easy road. But Jesus never asks us to walk it alone.

This conversation is an invitation to stay rooted in love, remain faithful under pressure, and choose joy even when following Jesus comes with a cost.

Reflection Question: Can I remain joyful, loving, and faithful to Jesus even when following Him costs me the approval of others?

Abide: Staying Connected to Jesus with Jeannie Cunnion – John 15 Sep 17, 2026

Abide: Staying Connected to Jesus with Jeannie Cunnion – John 15

In Episode 152 of Divine Table Talk, Jamie and Jane welcome back author and Bible teacher Jeannie Cunnion for a powerful conversation about one of the central invitations of John 15: Abide in Me.

What does it actually look like to abide in Jesus—not just during quiet time or Bible study, but in the middle of busy schedules, difficult seasons, relationships, parenting, work, and everyday life?

Together, Jamie, Jane, and Jeannie explore the difference between striving for God and staying connected to God. They unpack Jesus’ picture of the Vine and the branches, why fruit is the result of abiding rather than performing, and how we can recognize when we've begun trying to produce in our own strength.

They also talk honestly about pruning, surrender, intimacy with Jesus, and learning to remain in His love when God seems to be cutting away things we thought we needed.

John 15 reminds us that Jesus isn't asking us to manufacture more fruit. He's inviting us to stay close to the Vine.

If you've been tired from striving, questioning a season of pruning, or simply longing for deeper intimacy with Jesus, pull up a chair. This conversation is an invitation to stop performing—and start abiding.

Reflection Question: Am I trying to produce fruit for Jesus—or am I staying close enough to Him that fruit becomes the natural result?

Stay Connected: The Vine, the Branches & the Purpose of Pruning – John 15:1–12

In Episode 151 of Divine Table Talk, Jamie and Jane dive into one of Jesus’ most powerful pictures of our relationship with Him: “I am the vine; you are the branches.”

In John 15:1–12, Jesus teaches that a fruitful life doesn’t come from striving harder—it comes from abiding deeper. But He also introduces something most of us would rather avoid: pruning.

Together, Jamie and Jane explore why God prunes even the branches that are already producing fruit, how seasons of cutting back can actually prepare us for greater growth, and what it practically looks like to remain connected to Jesus when life feels uncomfortable or uncertain.

What if the thing God is removing isn’t punishment? What if it’s preparation?

Jesus’ invitation is simple: Remain in Me. Because apart from Him we can do nothing, but connected to the Vine, our lives can produce the kind of lasting fruit God created us to bear.

And at the center of it all is love—remaining in His love and learning to love others as He has loved us.

Reflection Question: What if the thing I’ve been asking God to restore is actually something He’s pruning so I can grow?

Peace the World Can’t Give: The Promise of the Holy Spirit – John 14:15–31

In Episode 150 of Divine Table Talk, Jamie and Jane finish John 14 with one of Jesus’ greatest promises: we will never have to walk alone.

As Jesus prepares His disciples for His departure, He promises the coming of the Holy Spirit—the Advocate, Helper, and Teacher who will remain with them and remind them of everything Jesus has taught. Then, in the middle of uncertainty about what comes next, Jesus gives them something the world cannot manufacture: His peace.

Together, Jamie and Jane explore what it means to recognize the presence of the Holy Spirit in our everyday lives, how love for Jesus shapes our obedience, and the difference between temporary peace based on circumstances and the lasting peace that comes from Christ.

Jesus never promised His followers a life without trouble, questions, or uncertainty. He promised something better: His presence in the middle of it.

If your heart has been anxious, overwhelmed, or searching for peace, pull up a chair. John 14 reminds us that we have a Helper, we have His presence, and we have a peace the world cannot give.

Reflection Question: Am I looking to my circumstances to give me peace—or am I learning to receive the peace Jesus has already given me?

Ask, Believe, Dream Bigger: The Greater Things Jesus Promised – John 14:12–14

In Episode 149 of Divine Table Talk, Jamie and Jane slow down and dive into just three powerful verses—John 14:12–14—where Jesus makes an astonishing promise about faith, prayer, and the “greater works” His followers will do.

What did Jesus mean when He said, “Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these”? And what do we do with His invitation to “ask me for anything in my name”?

Together, Jamie and Jane explore the difference between dreaming with God and simply asking Him to bless our plans. They talk about bold prayers, surrendered dreams, expectations, and what it means to believe that God can accomplish more through our lives than we could ever manufacture on our own.

Maybe we've been praying too safely. Maybe we've allowed disappointment to shrink what we're willing to ask God for. John 14 invites us to believe again, ask boldly, dream with God—and remember that ultimately, it is all for the glory of the Father.

Reflection Question: Have I allowed fear, disappointment, or past unanswered prayers to make my prayers smaller—and what might God be inviting me to ask Him for again?

The Way, the Truth, and the Life: Knowing Jesus with Kristin Nave – John 14

n Episode 148 of Divine Table Talk, Jamie and Jane welcome Bible teacher and author Kristin Nave for a powerful conversation centered on John 14 and one of Jesus’ most defining declarations: “I am the way and the truth and the life.”

Together, they unpack what these words mean for us today. What does it look like to follow Jesus as the Way when we don't know where we're going? How do we anchor ourselves in the Truth when so many voices compete for our attention? And what does it mean to experience Jesus not simply as part of our lives, but as the Life itself?

Kristin brings her passion for Scripture and practical Bible study into a conversation about knowing Jesus personally, trusting Him in uncertainty, and allowing God's Word to shape how we live.

John 14 isn't simply giving us directions for finding our way to God. Jesus makes an extraordinary claim: He is the way.

If you're searching for direction, wrestling with truth, or longing for a deeper relationship with Jesus, pull up a chair. This conversation is for you.

    Reflection Question:

Am I simply asking Jesus to show me the way or am I trusting that Jesus Himself is the Way?

Troubled World, Untroubled Heart: Trusting Jesus When Life Feels Uncertain – John 14:1–11

In Episode 147 of Divine Table Talk, Jamie and Jane step into John 14:1–11, where Jesus speaks some of His most comforting words to His disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled.”

Jesus knows what is coming. The disciples are facing uncertainty, confusion, and fear—yet He doesn't promise them an easy road. Instead, He gives them something greater: Himself.

Together, Jamie and Jane unpack what it means to have an untroubled heart in a troubled world, why trusting God doesn't require understanding everything He's doing, and the hope found in Jesus' declaration: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

When the world feels uncertain, our circumstances don't have to determine the condition of our hearts. Jesus invites us to trust Him, know the Father through Him, and find peace in the promise that He is preparing the way.

If your heart has felt anxious, overwhelmed, or uncertain about what's ahead, John 14 is an invitation to remember who Jesus is—and why you can trust Him.

What is troubling my heart right now—and what would change if I trusted Jesus with it instead of trying to control the outcome?

Faithful Through Betrayal: Love, Loyalty, and the New Commandment – John 13:18–38 Aug 06, 2026

Faithful Through Betrayal: Love, Loyalty, and the New Commandment – John 13:18–38

In Episode 146 of Divine Table Talk, Jamie and Jane continue through John 13:18–38, where the final hours before the cross reveal both the beauty of Christ's love and the heartbreak of human failure. Jesus foretells Judas' betrayal, predicts Peter's denial, and gives His disciples a new commandment that will forever define His followers: "Love one another as I have loved you."

Together, they explore how Jesus responded to betrayal with compassion, why our identity is rooted in Christ rather than our failures, and what it truly means to love others with the same grace we've received. Even in the face of rejection and abandonment, Jesus remained faithful to His mission—and He invites us to do the same.

This episode is a powerful reminder that while people may disappoint us, Jesus never will. His love is stronger than betrayal, His grace is greater than our failures, and His call to love remains at the center of the Christian life.

How can I reflect the love of Jesus toward someone who has hurt me, disappointed me, or failed me?

The Towel and the Basin: The Heart of a Servant – John 13:1–17

In Episode 145 of Divine Table Talk, Jamie and Jane begin one of the most intimate and transformative sections of the Gospel of John. In John 13:1–17, Jesus—the King of kings—kneels to wash the feet of His disciples, revealing that true greatness in God's Kingdom is found in humble service.

Together, they unpack the significance of this unforgettable moment, exploring what it means to love sacrificially, lead with humility, and serve others with the heart of Christ. Peter's struggle to accept Jesus' act of service also reminds us that following Jesus means learning both to receive His grace and to extend it to others.

This episode is an invitation to exchange pride for humility, status for service, and self-centered living for the example Jesus modeled on the night before the cross. As followers of Christ, we're not just called to admire His example—we're called to live it.

Who is Jesus inviting me to serve with humility this week, and am I willing to lay down my pride to love like He loved?____________________________________
