BRETT GOLDSTEIN & JON DREVER (Superbob together, and much more in the next decade) • Friday Rewind Jan 16, 2026

Show notes

emocleW, emocleW, emocleW to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This is your bonus FRIDAY REWIND episode! Today, we catch up with Brett Goldstein and Jon Drever, originally episode 62 from 2015-10-07.

This is a very early days episode right here, the chasm of time made only wider when you consider the career arcs of those involved in the time intervening... Jon is one of the OGs of production company Grain Media, the home of the wonderful Superbob (made by he and Brett), who has now gone on to focus on producing comedy and has been more solo since 2018 or so. Brett has always been doing comedy / writing / film, and since the huge success of Superbob has gone onto find the combination to the universe by way of Ted Lasso, Shrinking, All Of You, and indeed the (some might say) perfectly edited podcast Films To Be Buried With. Here is a snapshot of - at time of this Rewind - over a decade ago, which is such an interesting position from which to view this point in time. Enjoy, and catch all of their furture work too of course.

JAMES NELSON-JOYCE • from a chance meeting in a chicken restaurant to a beautiful acting path ahead (A Thousand Blows / This City Is Ours / Black Mirror) #653 Jan 14, 2026

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the most excellent actor JAMES NELSON-JOYCE!

A delightful session with Pip and James, which will bring you adequately up to speed on all things past and present. A lot of seeds were sewn in a not-far-off Nandos where he bumped into Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters (two names which will create the warming glow you can feel from this episode), and from then on we hear about what followed including playing Stephen's brother in A Thousand Blows, how to play a chemistry read, building the backstory, the internalised shame of holding back the reveal of wanting to be an actor, school monologues, the arts being for everyone, and working as part of an ensemble. Naturally you'll be treated to so much more besides, but all in all you can trust that this one's a great one and your attention towards James's past roles will be rewarded!

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

A non-Rewind Friday for the early days of 2026 as Pip celebrates some very recent past highlights, and the birthday of a very special boy. 🐶

The above does actually kind of sum it all up nicely right there but make sure you check it - a delightful little diversion and a very cool, necessary and apt 'stop to breathe' moment in what could already be a very hectic year. Also shouts to Amelia, Finley, Jessie from The Traitors and probably way more but that's a good amount of shouts for now. Loads of love from all at Distraction Pieces, we shall see you all next week!

FILMS OF THE YEAR 2025 #652 Jan 07, 2026

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip takes us on a personal guided tour of not only the frosty badlands of the outside world, but the miracle wonderland that was the year in film of 2025!

Pip saw like 500 movies last year, which is a commendable feat by anyone's standard, so to corale them all into a manageable amount is even more of a hardcore labour of love. But one thing Pip does love is film, so this is not labour - this is total joy and appreciation and celebration of cinema right here. You'll hear a complete runthrough of all of those films (okay not quite 500 - and crucially not a review of each one), as well as the all important top list of what made it through and why. It's always a fun time and can sometimes be a cool reminder of stuff we all meant to watch but didn't get round to, so loads can be gained from the outdoors on location film ramble.

Your keyword for this episode is: ROMP.

Also accepted: CAPER.

Enjoy, and have a wonderful new year everyone!

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the fabulous duo of JOE TALBOT (Idles) and GRACE NEUTRAL (tattoo legend)! Part 2 of 2!

Folks used to the yearly custom of the DrunkCast need not go thirsty, for this is the season of powerful teamups on the podcast in order to celebrate the year and really go in on what's been going on, really with the triple perspective of past, present and future. Or, everything everywhere all at once. Grace and Joe have been on in the not too distant past and were excellent as expected, and made for perfect repeat custom right here as they all form the pyramid of chat and goodness, with all the ingredients for a straight up proper podcast. No pivoting to video, no hot takes for the thumbnails, just straight up audiotory goodness. So let's start as we mean to go on, and check in with Pip, Grace and Joe on part 2 of this two part roundup!

Christmas Drinks w/Musa Okwonga & Polarbear • Part 2 of 2 #650 Dec 24, 2025

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by friends of the podcast and friends in life MUSA OKWONGA and POLARBEAR! Part 2 of 2!

Otherwise known as the 'elevated' Drunkcast with 100% less rowdiness and very little if any drunkenness! So an entirely respectful affair all in all (shoutouts and love of course to Chris and Stu as always). It's a rare occasion for this formation to come together too, as Musa is an incredibly busy writer/performer/podcaster, and Polar is perpetually busy with the words and the page. What happens though is a beautifully cordial, jovial, inspiring and really warm catchup between folks who have a lot of love for each other but a love which radiates outwards to us too. You'll notice it and feel it. And while tough topics come up - not least involving where Musa lives and the environment cooking there - it is all met with that said outward gaze and a communal outlook. A perfect listen not only for this time of year, but for this time in the world. A lush mix of local and global happening throughout - the small acts of kindness which spread out, that kind of vibe. Oh and on the subject of vibes - let's all just crown Polar the Vibemaster General, while we're at it. ENJOY! Merry festivetimes to all who get down as such - but as always lots of love to all of you listening XX

Stephen Merchant (The Office / Logan / Fighting With My Family) • Friday Rewind Dec 19, 2025

Show notes

emocleW, emocleW, emocleW to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This is your bonus FRIDAY REWIND episode! Today, we catch up with Stephen Merchant, originally episode 255 from 2019-02-27.

Original writeup below:

“…you realise you’re sort of somewhere between Rocky and A Star Is Born”

An absolute legend right here, in not only TV, stage and film but the good old Wild West days of podcasting! A solid in-depth chat with Stephen, covering his illustrious career from those early days of his arch-character in standup comedy (which divided audiences down the middle) and his his return to the stage later down the road, the genesis of the undisputed TV classic ‘The Office’ and its evolution in the US (and being able to watch it objectively at last), right up to being holed up in off-track US locations with Richard E Grant, as well as his current position behind the camera as director of the wrestling biopic ’Fighting With My Family’! How much more besides? So much… Many perspectives and insights and straight up wisdom dropped in this powerful podcast, so set aside some time and ENJOY!
