    DISGRACELAND

DISGRACELAND is an award-winning music and true crime podcast about musicians getting away with murder and behaving very badly. Jerry Lee Lewis’s 5th wife? Dead. Sid and Nancy? Both dead. Why? Because musicians are insane, and insane things happen to them.

Why did we lose Amy Winehouse at 27? Was Debbie Harry really abducted by Ted Bundy as she claims? Is Patti Smith not just the “Godmother of Punk”, but also the “Original True Crime Girl”? What really happened the night of the Jay Z nightclub stabbing? What do the Diddy indictments truly reveal? All these stories and more, on artists from every genre and their true crimes, in our massive 260-plus story archive. The Dead, the Stones, Johnny, Willie, Frank, Kurt, Courtney, Gaga, Lana, Taylor, and too many to name.

DISGRACELAND is music history come to life through audio storytelling as you’ve never heard it before, with revealing facts: yes, assassins are the real reason the Beatles quit touring—reclaimed myths: no, Mama Cass didn’t die from choking on a ham sandwich––and constant reckoning between art and artist––all told through the lens of true crime.

This is the podcast for the self-proclaimed “Disgos”, the musically obsessed and the true crime heads; the outsiders, the independent thinkers who know that the best history is the history that gets buried. DISGRACELAND is where host Jake Brennan tells the stories they didn’t want told. The kind you’ll end up telling someone else. Get ready to uncover hidden truths and buckle up for truly edge-of-your-seat storytelling.

New, fully scripted, sound-designed episodes are released every Tuesday. Bonus chat-style episodes where Jake responds to voicemails, texts, and emails from Disgos hit on Thursdays, and “Rewind” episodes from our archive drop on Sundays.

DISGRACELAND is not a journalistic podcast. It’s an entertainment podcast inspired by true events. Certain dialogue and scenes are dramatized, as is common in scripted entertainment based on real stories. Sources and credits for each episode are available at www.disgracelandpod.com.

Peppers, and a legacy that will be hard to top for future artists. Buckle up for a crime and grime Beastie Boys story.

Townes Van Zandt: Dreaming Hit Songs, Detox, and Waiting Around to Die Jan 23, 2025
    Show notes

Country songwriter Townes Van Zandt was an incredible talent who toiled in obscurity. Most of his albums never sold more than a few thousand copies. Like his idol, Hank Williams, he was willing to push aside everything to chase the muse – everything but the bottle. And like Hank Williams, Townes Van Zandt's legend would only grow greater after his death.

Bill Murray: Airport Drug Busts, Backstage Brawls, and Crashing Elvis’s Burial Jan 14, 2025
    Show notes

Before Bill Murray was busting ghosts and living in a loop of deja vu, he was a drug-dealing premed student with a knack for comedy. When he was caught with five bricks of pot at the airport, his career in medicine came crashing down, forcing him to make a living with his smart mouth. His obsession to rise above “medium talent” brought him to volatile blows with musicians, fellow actors, and even himself. Yet in his cockiest moments and most despairing lows, the universe always found a way to show Bill Murray he still had a lot to learn.

What's your favorite Bill Murray performance? Do you have any Bill Murray stories? Let Jake know at 617-906-6638, disgracelandpod@gmail.com, or on socials @disgracelandpod.

Sean “Diddy” Combs (Pt. 2): The Explicit Story Behind the Indictments Jan 07, 2025
    Show notes

How does a music mogul satiate himself when he’s rich, famous, and can have whatever he wants? When he compares himself to gangster-pimp-king-hustlers from the past? When he’s one of the most powerful men in the music industry? The details behind the Cassie Ventura, Lil’ Rod Jones, and federal indictments charging Sean “Diddy” Combs with horrific acts of abuse – all charges Combs denies – might provide answers.

George Jones: Voices, Vices, and a Comeback for the Ages Dec 26, 2024
    Show notes

George Jones possessed one of the finest and most expressive instruments God ever created: his voice, which is widely considered the greatest in country music. But he was also possessed by demons who haunted him his whole life, and heard voices that tormented and controlled him. His addictions to drugs and alcohol made him legendarily unreliable, earning him the nickname "No Show Jones." But just when George Jones was at his lowest, a song came along that would change everything - proving that his voice could still work wonders.
