136 GEM CEASAR - 17, Deer Hunting Louisiana, and Swamp Bottom Media Feb 06, 2016
    Show notes

It all started with an 8 megapixel camera and a flock of blackbirds. A good job and some savings later, Gem was on his way to purchase better video capture equipment for all of Gem's deer hunting, duck hunting, turkey hunting, or whatever Gem decides to hunt. Whatever is game may be, one thing is for sure, Gem's camera work is outstanding. He thinks of every hunting set in two ways, how can I get the shot (for the kill) and how can I get the shot (for the camera). And, oh by the way, he's only 17 years old. Gem takes us on a deer hunt in Louisiana and gives us a forecast of where he wants to take his career (after he's done with his homework).

135 MIKE KAFKA - NFL Quarterback, Newbie Hunter, Deer Hunting Q & A for the BBR, and Super Bowl 50 Predictions Jan 30, 2016
    Show notes

Can the eyes of a quarterback indicate where the ball will be thrown? Is luck a random chance? Or is it actually the by-product of hard work and hours of preparation? Mike Kafka can tell you that hard work and preparation is the key to reaching higher levels of success and that it's the turn of the head, not the eyes, that will often indicate to a defender where the ball is going to be thrown. Mike, a newbie hunter, has spent several years in the National Football League playing the Quarterback position and is now setting his eyes on a new venture, deer hunting. It started with a specialized handwarming pouch that Mike flys under the flag of a company he started called Roo Outdoors, but in the process his interest in hunting has grown Mike is able to draw correlation between preparing for a NFL football game and preparing for a deer hunt. Only this time, in preparation for becoming a better deer hunter, Mike picks Jay and Dusty's brains for information.

134 TAYLOR DRURY: The Deer Hunting Family Business & The Story of the "Dirty Little Secret" Buck Jan 23, 2016
    Show notes

When you have the likes of Mark and Terry Drury just a text or holler away for advice on deer hunting, your chances of killing big bucks year after year goes up, way up. Taylor Drury has learned an incredible amount from her father and uncle over the years, and although she is only 20, she probably has the whitetail knowledge of someone three times her age. The one thing that Taylor notes as the most important key to being a great hunter, Persistence (notice the capital "P"). Taylor says that there really aren't any short cuts to hunting, although it may seem that way on television. She notes: television only shows you the best footage for television, but most of the hard work footage and in-between stuff ends up on the editing room floor. Where does Taylor plan to take this career as she comes of age in the outdoor industry? Tune in to hear all about it!

Jerry wrote a book, a book about a lifetime of hunting and fishing. Deer hunting with bow and arrow was a vehicle for Jerry to tap into the rhythm and cadence of nature, which is a bit different from his life in the entertainment business. Growing up in a world of country music, it was not unusual for Jerry to be around legends like Loretta Lynn and Johnny Cash. Jerry became an agent for his best friend, comedian George Carlin, but life wasn't always so fun. 130 TODD MEAD - Deer Hunting the Adirondacks, Pen, Paper, Back Country Bucks, & Hunting with Diabetes Dec 26, 2015
    Show notes

Deer hunting the vastness inside the "Blue Line" of New York's 6 million acre Adirondack Mountain range is no joke. It consumes hunters, both literally and metaphorically. Those with poor navigational skills should think twice about hunting these mountains, but to Todd Mead, is all second nature. Todd has spent a lifetime hunting this tremendous forest where disappearing deep into the woods for days to hunt the back country bucks is no big deal. Todd's pack is loaded with gear, but perhaps the most important piece is his life saving diabetes kit: a must have for a big woods hunters with Type I diabetes. Todd shares his stories with us as he uses his pen to capture a lifetime of hunting in the Adirondack Mountains.

    Show notes

To kill one 200 inch giant whitetail buck would be a buck of a lifetime for most hunters. Steve Esker has done it multiple times, four times to be exact (not to mention the numerous bucks that he's taken over 150 inches). Steve arguably has the most impressive big buck wall in the nation. He says it never gets old and it never gets boring, but it is exhausting, elaborate and extensive. It takes a team, time, and a big plan. We dig deep with Steve and find out what makes him tick and how he kills big bucks year after year as part of our exploration of world class deer hunters.
